This was the last movie I watched with my big brother before he died in an accident. Man let me tell you the absolute pain I felt when I watched this without him. Still one of my favorite disney films

After the real historic event of the San Fransisco earthquake in 1906 destroyed the city, in this fictional world Asian immigrants mostly form Japan helped rebuild the city. They gave traditional Japanese construction techniques that have helped their buildings service earthquakes for centuries. When the city was rebuilt they changed the name form San Fransisco to San Fransokyo (San Fran. & Tokyo)!
I can tell that Gabriele felt this movie the most. Everytime there was something impactful with Tadashi, you could tell from his face that he was imagining himself being that person for Michael and Rapahel as the older brother. Love to see such great brotherly love.
They made a Big Hero 6 show for Disney+. It does show some of the things Hiro learns at university. It isn't just how to build a robot. It's also things like how to design inventions for different conditions (earthquake proof buildings, modified space ships etc), how to repeat test your inventions, as well as life skills like how to accept failure and how to be happy for the success of others. He also looks at using robots in other areas of science, in particular, biology. Hiro is smart, but he's also fourteen and he can be somewhat rash. Lessons on not only how to do science but how to be responsible, safe and ethical are important.

I love this movie but I remember being so confused as to why they didn’t just pop a hole in baymax at the end and have the slow release of air push them out of the space portion- I genuinely thought that was going to be the checklov’s gun callback to how they were always putting tape on him in the beginning Edit: I’m aware that it arguably may not have been enough pressure or fast enough, but once again that’s arguing semantics that the movies writing did not clarify or justify (if they had written in a scene of them trying it or mentioning it and it failing I would not have this issue), I’m just pointing out a plot hole that I noticed that I genuinely believe would have been better writing. Not to mention that removing the tape would have been brilliant symbolism for facing wounds head on and not hiding the pain, but dealing with it together with those you love. Idk. Im just sick of the martyr trope.
