    Lee Van Cleef sure could wear that hat. I also like the low derby that Emillo Esteban wore as Billy, in Young Guns.

    Andrew- I so enjoy your videos! It is very important for young people like yourself to perpetuate the spirit of the Old West. Not only are you conveying interesting historical lore, you are teaching the younger generation about our past that doesn't get taught in the schools anymore. I will turn 78 next week and I remember as a kid being glued to the TV, wearing my twin Colts, watching my idols like Hop Along Cassidy, Roy Rogers, Lash Larue, Johnny Yuma, Gene Autry, and Paladin. These shows, although well seasoned with Hollywood inaccuracies, instilled a love of the Wild West that lasts to this day. As a native Californian, I have been fortunate to have had so many ghost towns and gold camps to explore over the last five decades, each visit serving as a "booster shot" in the arm for the West. To this day I still make a point of visiting the ghost town of Bodie in the Eastern Sierras, one of the best preserved ghost towns in the U.S. I'm rambling, but I just wanted to say that young people like yourself are playing a critical role in keeping this short but important period in our nation's history right up front for all to see . Keep up the good work! Steve

      Thank you very much, Steve! All of what you said is very touching and a big reason why I do these videos! I love the old west and try to get it as accurate as I can when covering it! It’s also great to hear that I can reach a broadened audience to share this very interesting time period in the United States! So again, I appreciate the support and hope you enjoy what’s on the way in the future!
      -Andrew
      P.S. Ghost towns are my weakness. Always try to get to the well preserved out west when I can!

    I think the “flat crown” flat brim hat was very popular, not only for looks but practicality.

    The square "brick" fold looks pretty smart on that slouch hat.
    Maybe a "triangular" Denton fold for a sporty look.

    I love that Montana 4-pinch. Ok, not so much the 4-pinch, but that brim is incredible. I would leave the brim as is an do a “Gus” pinch. This is a great video. That Beaver hat is beautiful!

    The Open Crown, Telescope/Gambler Creased Crown, Flat or Round Crowned hats with Wide Brims are the types of hats I find cool.
    The Top Hat Society, a Multiversal Crime Syndicate Mercenary Organization especially likes those types of hats. Those types of hats are Acceptable for them. Cowboy hats that have those other types of Creases are not accepted, but if you can stack a hat that is acceptable on top of that creased hat, or you change the shape of the hat to fit the Top Hat Society’s Requirements, then it’s acceptable.

    Tell me what you think, chief.
    A modified slouch hat
    Higher rear crown
    Webbing on the crown
    High crown hook or velcro to fasten the brim on either side
    Chinstrap doubles as a crown size adjuster
    Heavy gauge wire in the rim for durability and shaping.
    Denton/brick fold with option of pencil rolled style.
    Waxed heavy-duty canvas or other sporty synthetic blend
    My thought process is if the Australian slouch hat and the SF boonie hat had a love child for the military folks and/or the common man.

    Is the turnup in the front of the Doc Holliday hat so you can raise a rifle without knocking it off?

      That and more vision for a right handed shot. Clears most of your line of sight. Not sure if it’s the reason for the Val Kilmer hat specifically, but historically that was it’s purpose.

      @@SaintAndrewTV does the 4 inch measurement include the upturned edge? Making it shorter with a straight across measurement?

    • @SaintAndrewTV
      @SaintAndrewTV  2 года назад

      @@emiliog9402 yes it does. The brim, from my understanding at least, is measured before it’s worked on. So it’s 4” of total brim, but will not stick out 4” because of the curve and pencil curl.

    How does one get into hat fabrication?

    • @SaintAndrewTV
      @SaintAndrewTV  8 месяцев назад +1

      How I did it was going to antique stores and looking for good, beaver hats in your size. Regardless of shape, you can use warm, moist heat to shape it into something brand new!
