- We hope you enjoy this inside look on how we manufacture one of our leather hats. Today we are featuring the Cyclone Leather Cowboy Hat, it's available in Men's, Women's and Kids sizes and comes in a variety of colors. It is one of our longest running hat styles over the last 50 years we've been in business. It's a tried and true staple here at American Hat Makers.
Let's talk about the music, there have been a lot of comments about it so we thought we'd add a little update here. Yes, we'd love to just hear the asmr sounds of the machines and the shop. There is NO debate on our end. Unfortunately, when I was recording, there was music playing in the background like it does every day, so, it was an oversite. Due to copyright issues, we had to dub over the shop music with some RUclips approved music, so here we are. Rookie move!!!! I recorded two other hats being made on the same day so y'all are going to see it again. Moving forward, lessons learned, and the radio will be off so you can enjoy all the natural sounds happening.

@@AmericanHatMakers can I ask what's the glue an equipment you use to make the hats like the sewing machine that was sewing the machine to the hat to the side
Manufacturing is good if it is not piece of work that takes the fun out of it if you can take your time and make a hell of a piece a lot of time that's great Jenn stuff out the door the quality is lessened

With so many machines in the production process, you have no way to say that it is made by hand, only if you want to deceive the public
@@leatheraccessories646 With anything one does, one has to use tools. Those machines are tools just like a carpenter whether he uses his good old hammer or the new battery operated hammers. Products/goods produced by machines with no or little human intervention would not be considered hand made.
@@Errr717but handmade is different thing. Those tools always produce the same result and give no place to adjustments. Do not mix industry and artisan goods please.
OLD Leather Smith here, interesting we all do things differently. I made mine 30 years ago & still working very well. I cut slots in the lower crown 2 feed my hat band through & it also alows heat 2 escape, I also dyed the leather before I began the project it saves a lot of problems down the road. @@abubaca2683 That bison leather is dreamy. We use to carry an outback style like the Bison Hat, in kangaroo leather....oh my heavens, it is by far my (yauni's) favorite leather. Unfortunately, california banned the import of it. Booooo.

Same brand I've had since the mid 1990's. Made much like that and a darker brown more suede leather. Favorite hat especially for wet or cold weather. Just keep it waterproof.

WOW, I am someone who doesn't like to wear hats unless I am going on a long hike but that hat makes me want to get one and wear it all the time.
This one is so comfortable. What do you wear when you hike?
@@AmericanHatMakers it's a hat with a lot of breathability looks like that hat but it has mesh along the top sides and the top is solid as is the brim, that way there is a venturi effect so as I am walking or a light breeze comes along I feel a lot cooler.

It's weird that I have a hat similar to this but its different, it's it's an outback hat made in Australia and the major difference is that it doesn't have a gus to it. What I like about the video is that you can reshape the hat with a little water on the underside. Very cool.

I have worn broad brimmed hats for more than 50 years, felt, leather and wire rimmed leather and without doubt the best is rabbit felt Akubra hats from Australia. Would not even bother trying another leather hat. But they're great for urban cowboys.
Australia absolutely makes some great hats, don't count us out. We've been making hats for over 50 years ourselves and everyone has their own style on how they do things. We aren't AUS, we're AHM
I have been wearing good hats all my adult life, I'm in my 70s now. No baseball caps here. I have more than 20 hats and my Akubras are my favorites.

I missed my calling in life. I started out in the work world in manufacturing things and then went into desk work. But there is really nothing more satisfying than putting something together and seeing it take shape in your hands and completing it and being proud of your work. These workers are amazing.

They look great. Please make more in men's size small. I hardly ever see any when I look at hats. Either they sell out or don't order many.
I even had to use a size reducer kit in order to wear the size small I recently bought.

Some people are used to it, we have plenty of other lightweight and breathable hats for hotter weather.

Funny you say that, I live in a semi-arid / desert climate (it's currently 104°F) and I have no issues wearing a BLACK American Hatmakers hat. In fact I'm wearing it out on the porch, smoking a cigar, and drinking bourbon as I type this.

Great question. The tag actually went through the seam, so there is no added hole.
Gotta appreciate the efficiency in every step. Also pretty amazing that the the top part of the crown is just centered by hand on the brim. I've made some leather hats by hand and really enjoyed watching your work steps.

There is no worker (in the whole world) as great as The American Craftsmen at their craft. A joy to watch people who know what they are doing.
Thats funny i have had alot of usa made "quality" products from clothings instruments and other things. It allways is dissapointing. Meanwhile i had things from japan and other countries that are flawless no scratches straight quality materials. And their craftmenship out blows a american product 99 to 1.
As an American I prefer American products, but this attitude leads to complacency. Anybody in the world can be best at anything if they put serious effort into it. The moment you think you’re the best and refuse to improve, that’s the moment when someone else takes over as the best.

Nice hat, wonder how it'll hold up to weather. With all hats meant to be used outdoors its keeping structure in rain, wind, snow is what fails. Stetson or 5$ Amazon hat, that's what goes first for me.

Very interesting process, fine detail, gr8 workmanship! To the point of forming the creases, why in the world put a good-looking hat through that. Do they all come with those creases, no individuality.

Excellent video. Impressive editing also. Questions: How many people (total) touch this hat in its manufacture. Just curious. Water soluble contact cement around the band is a nice touch. Plus all the binding tape at the seams. Great! And, I am guessing that bottle at the end is Bick 4? Love that to condition leather. Again, thanks.
great question, this hat hit 22 stations (some people touched it more than once) and this doesn't include packing, shipping and tanning (this process is done before we get it). Yes, that was a bottle of Bick 4 👍

@American Hat Makers - I actually have you bookmarked on my web browser right on the tab and now you show up in RUclips...hoping to buy one of your hats in the near future so this will be fun to watch how they're made. (and personally, im looking at the Boondock Hat, that looks like a good compromise between a cowboy hat and a fedora).

It looks ozzy to me, a wider brim, and a taller crown would be more American style in shape in my opinion. Very nice looking hat, I'm sure the Ozzies will like it well, as will the small headed Americans. I love the color, and I hope you put a sweat guard in the front and back, side holes could be helpful for heat lose on hot days.
Jack, you have some great ideas. There is a sweatband in it, and we do have a different style that has holes on the side. Not sure we will add holes to this one.
