      No, this is serious environmental pollution. Not to mention global warming climate change from C02 emissions. Greta Thunberg has decreed polluting locos like this must be cut for scrap and melted down to make cleaner traction.

    I wonder why British design dieselloco engines were not equipped with pre- heaters for both coolant and engine oil. Just like incorporated in most large engines designed in the same era in Germany. Never seen such clagging, popping and flames with German dieselloco’s. Explosions in the exhaust might pose a serious risk for the engine, let alone the waste of fuel and the effects on the environment. At that time this was of no concern, I know. Today, however, we think differently and it surprises me they still are allowed to be operated, museum status or not.

    • @ebddenby8439
      @ebddenby8439 5 лет назад +4

      @@peterkwakman7440 they start with another engine called a donkey engine. There's no key to be used like your car these engines are far to big for a battery and starter motor. That tiny donkey engine sounds like something out of a moped and it builds up oil pressure eventually turning the main engine and pumping fuel at the same time. These locos will not be in everyday use so they will be harder to start compared to everyday locomotives.
