Etsy almost forces ppl to NOT allow low prices for customers; otherwise sellers wouldn't break even, due to fees. Esty is obviously making out nicely, considering most of these fees are charged automatically, so no one at Etsy is actually doing much work but they're collecting massive fees from the people who ARE doing the work - the artisans creating the product.
they're not doing much work? hahaha, dude, come on. I'm sorry, but you absolutely have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe you should build a site to compete against Etsy, if it doesn't take much work 🤣🤣🤣
@@NorellWinburn automation is a beautiful thing…
Listing FEEs, Payment FEEs, Processing FEEs, Click FEEs (you have no way of actually counting on the back end), Shipping FEEs, Label FEEs, Just Because FEEs, Big FEEs, Little FEEs........😄😄😄 I do not have an Etsy shop but I know people who did/do. I'm curious why Etsy doesn't simplify costs for sellers by implementing an annual membership FEE instead to eliminate all the annoying fees. It will definitely simplify the Sellers record keeping and will probably be more cost effective. How can Seller prices be competitive and still make a profit?
I opened my shop in october and only had about 3 sales in the year 2022. Well I recently got 3 sales on a sweatshirt in the same week and just got another sale so things are starting to pick up. The only problem is etsy put my account into a payment reserve and I need that money to fulfill the sweatshirts. The orders always ship on time with USPS tracking so I’m not sure what the problem is, has this happened to you??
Thank you for the information..its just made me go back to starting a wix account. At least with wix I know I just have to pay what I can understand. Way to much fee jargon. Otherwise im glad I found out this information before I got in to deep. Thank you. Most appreciated.
You’re welcome, while fees can be confusing, the ease with Etsy and traffic you can tap into is well worth it in our opinion.
for the off site ads, can I just opt out it completely to avoid the charge?
Great information. Thank You.
Is there someone who made a calculator with all possible fees? would make life a lot easier
Sale Samurai!
Kate, could you provide more detailed info on how the bid process for ad fees are determined? Thank you for all the other fee info you have provided!
OMG we are talking about almost 50% in fees o.O
Nice to meet you ☺️
Hey friend, thanks for watching!!
Isnt it true that the 5% shipping fee is always deducted from your account even if you not choose to use etsy's shipping labels? I read on multiple websites that people get transaction fees aswell as shipping fees no matter what
Should I open a business account for Etsy or use a personal bank account? I’m trying to decide on which one to use. Thank you any suggestions??
I’m a big fan of having a business account and keeping everything separate. Makes it much easier in my opinion :)
@@KateHayes Thank you!
Great knowledge thank you
Love the video!
Yay! Thank you for watching! 💛
Thank you for your video.
You’re so welcome!
Hi so I recently started getting orders and I sell small button hair ties for little girls..Literally was so upset ..I sold two sets @ 5.99 with taxes s&h everything was about $20 ..they literally took almist half ..my end result was like $10.72 ..I mean am I do something wrong or are they literally taking wayyyyyyy to much.
Don’t give up! Atleats you havw customers and your Store now has proof of sale. You can always charge more or get items of higher value to sell! Sucks but don’t give! There is hope
As a beginner with print on demand, what’s a decent quantity to start with, if it’s made to order ?
15% or 12% of what exactly? For each item sold, or the whole profit accumulated (ex: 12% of 10,000)?
YES! Each item sold! I opted out originally, but then I had a few really good months, selling high priced items will do that for you! I crossed the threshold, barely, of $10K in sales within that 365 and BAM... Etsy just gave themselves a huge raise!
And... you cannot opt out of the off-site ads once you are forced into them. They have tagged you for the life of your shop.
Thank you for all the information! You'd think understanding all this would be easy, but having guidance is so appreciated. Just want to clarify...Does Etsy take the 6.5% fee after or before tax? I live in Florida, do not accept Etsy Payments, use free shipping...so the only fees I would pay are the 6.5% and the .20 per listing, am I correct? Thank you!
did you find out?
Don't forget the transaction fees of 3% + .25. You are basically going to pay 10% every single sale. And when you hit the $10,000 mark in the 365 window... it rises to .22% on every sale that was directed by forced off-site ads. I know, I'm living the dream!
Etsy needs another website just for fees. LOL
Etsy fees are so complicated
Quick question does Etsy charge you before you make a sell or do they charge you once you make a sell .please be after

Buyer and seller responsible for sales tax in the us?
Can’t believe I’m this early! ❤🎉
Hey friend!
Hello, I want to open my first shop but I don't save and continue 'Set up billing' part. I wrote true my all info. If you help this about I will be happy, thank you and good works😌🙏🏻
I thought that the etsy shipping method were fees covered by buyer
I'm use to sell on Mercari, so etsy kind of confuses me but when i sell something on there, i don't need to worry about shipping bc Mercari creates the label (that the buyer paid) and i just download and print. Is it like that as well on etsy or i got it wrong?
You can either choose to offer free shipping and include shipping costs into the overall listing price. Or your customer can pay for shipping separately. You can get the labels directly from Etsy for USPS or FedEx
Why do we need to buy Etsy label?
You don't. I don't... I use Pirate ship and get the same rates as Etsy. I print the label from my computer and fulfill on Etsy when I have a tracking number.
What is "gst on seller fees"? It's almost 50% of the total fees
Same!! Except here it says VAT and is 58%! Apparently you need a GST tax ID (I'm assuming you're in Canada, possibly Quebec?) in order to be except. In the EU and a few other places you need a VAT ID. It's bull.
For the listing fees,we need to pay it after we get an order from buyers or we have to directly pay it after listing our products?
The .20 listing fee is charged regardless of if you make a sale or not, and is charged to your payment account when a new listing or published or renewed.
For the listing fees..if we don't get any buyers to buy our product,is the listing fees need to continue pay it?
Yes you have to pay the .20 listing fee regardless of the listing selling or not
❤
😀❤️
Before opening my shop, I thought the listing fee was going to be $.20 but in Canada it’s $2.46 :( plus all the rest of the fees
wow? how come?
It's supposed to be 0.25$
So 6.5% +3%=9% is what is taken from your profit?? Plus other payments, correct? Anyone?
6.5% + 3% = 9.5% + .20 listing fee + .25 transaction processing fee from what i gather. Plus potentially 12% or 15%
@@LAAM619 could you explain potentially more ? Variable rates with in the year?
@@dbeststuff777 it doesnt say anything about variable rates.
@@LAAM619 thank you
@@LAAM619 Yep exactly. I'm in the +12% category as I was forced into Off-Site Ads by Etsy. It doesn't hurt as much when selling high dollar items but it KILLS your profits on the small stuff under $10.
VERY THOROUGH
Thank you for this video however, it gave me information overload - I think it would have been best if you gave sample computation as in sales and net profit.
