My definition of an optimist is my friend who planted asparagus in her garden when she was 90. But now at age 92, she sure does enjoy her home-grown asparagus. 😃

Oh my goodness. I planted my asparagus upside down. Your video may have saved 9 plants. I did not read the directions or look at the diagram. Then I came across your video the next day. They are now soaking overnight in spring water and will have a better chance to grow when I plant them tomorrow. . Thanks so much. hahaha.

Of course you could pull them out of the containers after 2-3 years andmake a hole in the ground for them, couldn't you?! The reason i've done containers is due to little success the prvious year in the ground or with plugs. Now I'm making progess with containers.

    • @HollisNancysHomestead
      @HollisNancysHomestead  6 лет назад

      +Gareth Howell
Yes. After a few years in the containers you should harvest the crowns and plant them in a permanent raised bed. They will last twenty years of so in the ground. They will last two to three years in containers 👍

Chela Bell smiling ..... you don’t have to be “super religious” just enough faith the size of a mustard seed is all ya need and just like this asparagus video says you will grow closer and closer larger and lager and before you know it in a year you will see tremendous growth and then every year after that you will be blossoming like asparagus lol... see once the seed is planted God does the rest. I’m gonna try this asparagus this season... not sure if I’m gonna do in pots or ground yet. I loved this video...

I just love your videos. Thanks for sharing this knowledge. I'm growing asparagus in Florida, 9b. The fronds remained green all 12 months. Should I cut them back?

Blessings! Awesome videos!!! Could you cut the bottoms of the containers out in year two and drop them in a permanent spot? I would hate to see die off! My family LOVES Asparagus and Brussel Sprouts :)

Thanks for talking me outta growing container asparagus. Can't go with large space demands and low productivity.

Excellent information! Thank you 😊. I love asparagus. My entire back yard faces north. I get sun all day. Where do I get those big tubs from? God Bless you 🙏🏾

You creating that shape in the bucket started to remind me of the mashed potatoes in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

i'm digging a 2 x 8 section and filling it with compost and native soil and going to plant 10 crowns in there, i've got rocky clay soil so I hope they get established enough with the compost to be able to continue growing

I know I'm late to the party, but it might be worth checking out "Rootmaker" pots. I'm experimenting with them rn for fruit trees and asapragus

Hey Y'all!! Really looking forward to all your new videos this year!
Quick question. Since you're establishing your new homestead in FL have you started a new asparagus patch? If so, are you using 2 yr old crowns again? If so, where did you get your crowns? I bought my last crowns (7 Jersey Knights, 7 Mary Washington's, 14 Purple Passion) from Tractor Supply & only about half came up. I just re-watched your asparagus series so I have some work to do. I'm growing mine in-ground not in buckets but still I LOVE how educational your videos are! You've taught me so much!!

Hi Tami! Lots of new videos coming this year to you. I think you will get a kick out of them❤️. I am starting to work on building my raised bed frames in a few months. I plan to build a permanent raised bed for asparagus. I will start with at least two year old crowns. 👍

For root growth you can use Rock Phosphate.

Always informative. Thanks for the information. So asparagus is a lot of years work with not very much yield. Not suitable for my small urban garden then...

Each year you will get a little more yield because the root system spreads

Thanks for the informative video! Has anyone here had any luck growing asparagus in fabric pots/air pruning pots? I live in a climate which reaches -2°C or 28°F during winter and was just wondering if this would work?
    Thanks for your comment!
