This video clip was featured on a 1966 Jimmy Dean episode. I had the privilege of meeting Jimmy Tokita when I moved to Japan in 1977. I hope my Japanese friends especially enjoy this.
I have a friend who's a bluegrass fiddler from Tokyo who lives in east TN and performs with her husband a banjo picker at different places around Bristol. They lived in Japan for a while and I got to see them at different venues in Tokyo and they were well-received. There's a venue in Tokyo called "Rocky Top" that is famous for hosting bluegrass performers from Japan and from the US. It's not huge like rock but bluegrass is a genuine niche.
Yes, there has been a small but loyal fan base for American music since the late 40's. I played then-modern country music in Japan when I lived there in the 70's and again in the 90's.
ジミー時田さん大好きです!
Very nice. I found this enjoyable.
Thank you for uploading this treasure!
This is cool. Sent to my son in Tokyo.
The Japanese take their traditional Country and Bluegrass seriously. Lovely sincere people.

I knew the Japanese have some great traditional jazz musicians, but I had no idea this went on!
