Sound advice about your hip replacement!

  • When I do hip replacement surgery, I use all of my senses to make sure that it fits properly. A team of surgeons have analysed the sounds made when a surgeon impacts the cup of a hip replacement into place. They can predict if the cup isn't sitting properly! I can certainly tell if the sound isn't 'right' when I'm putting the parts in!

    So interesting. With my first hip replacement i woke up from the sedative while they were hammering. Lovely noise. I will add that I also had, as you know, a spinal! 🙈😅

      Good to know that you didn’t find waking up a problem. A lot of people worry about that but the vast majority are blissfully unaware of what’s going on. To extend the musical analogy surgery is a bit like a sonata. Exposure, insertion of the components and then closure!

      If i could, i would actually have asked for my second replacement op 2 months ago to be filmed! Would have loved to watch it. With this op though, I didnt waken till they were finishing off 🤗

      Bless you Lee. I hoped that the metal components had different notes but there wasn’t much between between them. Hope you are doing well.

    Sir i want to get THR in upcoming days…..ceramic on highly cross linked poly….wat will be the minimum life of the implant Sir?

    • @Lathamhipsurgery
      @Lathamhipsurgery  2 месяца назад +1

      Depends on how much loading and cycles of use it has. About 80% of people should expect 15-20 years.

    Hi Doctor Latham, i hope you are well, can i pick your brains?
    Q my friend has a UHMWPE liner, is that the same as a HXLPE one?
    Or better or not as good?
    From what i can see he has a 1st generation liner but what do i know?

    • @Lathamhipsurgery
      @Lathamhipsurgery  3 месяца назад

      No problem. Medical poly has been highly cross linked for the last 30+ years. Polyethylene is ultra high molecular weight but the first generation devices weren’t highly cross linked. The process involves irradiation of the polyethylene.

      @Lathamhipsurgery Thanks doctor latham, so even though his paperwork describes it as UHMWPE it's taken for granted nowadays it's highly cross linked. : /

      @@planet_69yes I believe that’s the case although there could be regional and manufacturer differences. Best to check with the surgeon.

      @Lathamhipsurgery It's made by biomet I think they're a big outfit.
      He says it's E1 antioxidant infused polyethylene (or diffused) the latest tech.

      @@planet_69Zimmer Biomet one of the top 5 globally. Vitamin E infused poly works well.
