Wow that thing sounds amazing got chills
I love the sound and the design. Well done buddy.
Gorgeous!! It sounds great and looks amazing!!
That's really nice work! The amboyna burl top is quite unique and very attractive! Well done!
Good job on that, really interesting sound.
Very nice built!. Sounds really good and looks great too.
Gorgeous guitar!
Very nice guitar man. I'm doing this with an existing guitar but this is a work of art.
Very interesting idea. Wonderful guitar. Have many fun with it.
she is a beauty! Love the sound,,I am building one right now from figured mahogany from my great grandmother's piano,, it will be a thin hollowbody
Hi! Do you have a video? Sounds like an interesting build.
congratulations, very good work. Nice guitar.
FANTASTIC JOB! Good playing! Amazing Man!! :)
POUR UNE ELECTRIQUE CORDE NYLON CHAPEAU LE SON ! INCROYABLE ! very good job man !
Beautiful guitar !
Raul Diego nice piezo sound too!
This guitar sounds excellent! How do nylon strings deal with the string spacing of an electric guitar neck/fretboard?
Thanks! I made the fingerboard dimensions like in a classical guitar :)
Traq Guitars oh, I see! Thanks!
No offense but watch the video before commenting
The guitar in this video has classical style fingerboard, but nylon strings can be playable on instruments with acoustic-guitar dimensions. My favorite guitar is an Ovation acoustic guitar with nylon strings on it. It's very quiet without amplification, and the strings buzz if I try to play loud, but I really like the tone when I play quietly. A demo is at ruclips.net/video/nHUQQQGpVUc/видео.html (guitar+vocal, miked acoustically).
This sounds amazing , thanks for sharing :)
This is a very niche instrument. I’ve always wanted an Ibanez SC500n, but those are incredibly hard to come by. The majority of solid body electric nylons are Tele’s, but I prefer strats shape like yours. I think if I can’t find the right one to buy, I’ll resort to building my own as well. This has provide great insight onto the world of guitar DIY-ing. Thanks!
Thanks man, go for it and build one. It's very rewarding :) And you can make it exactly as you like
sounds good for jazz
Thank you for this demo !
can you please upload a video test of distortion effect on this guitar ?
thnx again
Thank you so much ! Actually im a guitar maker too. i really liked the guitar you built, and i was thinking about adding an iternal distortion pedal inside of it. it will be amazing i guess !
This is sheer genius. What an incredible build. You have inspired me to build a lefty version. Since I'm very experienced with composite products & materials, carbon fibre will be used in the body & neck. 2 questions, was the sadle / bridge purchased with the Graf Tech ghost kit or purchased separately? Do you remember exactly which kit you purchased? Thanks for the video. Your one serious Luthier. Rock on Bro.
Thanks! I actually bought the saddles separately and got an inexpensive hardtail bridge, I drilled 6 holes for the piezo connector wires and installed the piezo saddles there. There is a small hiccup there because I bought the widest variation of the saddles (to stay closer to standard nylon string spacing) and I can't find a bridge that would accommodate it out of the box. So I had to hack around this a little bit also..
@@TraqGuitars thanks for the input. I appreciate the reply. Still impressed, it is a great build. Credit to you.
Greetings sir, would just like to ask if these Graphtech Ghost Acousti-Phonic Preamp Kit PK-0240-00 and Graphtech Ghost Pickups Strat & Tele Style 2 1/16 in. Spacing (6 Pcs) PN-8000-00 were the ones you have used building your AWSOME guitar?
Thank you very much for sharing, at least I'm sure It will work with Nylon strings just like yours. A very nice sounding and looking Guitar. What amp do you use if I may ask sir?
wow that's a fine guitar
what a nice guitar and sound!! Whats is the specific model of the piezo and preamp? im working in a nylon solidbody project too :)
Thanks very much for your help :) One last question, maybe you use the PN-0080-G6 piezo?
Dude this is amazing
I wish you could get in contact with a company to get one produced this is really a great sounding instrument. I guess it's kind of niche or whatever but still, amazing instrument. Good playing too!
thanks :) there are actually guitars of this type on the market, though not many. I just built it for the fun of it, and to see if I could pull off a guitar build. But very happy with the result and the sound!
3 years on and I spent a whole day looking for a strat type electro nylon.
All the ones around £500 are classical shape, or malmsteen nylon strat is £2500.
I think there is definitely still a market for these guitars, and especially with polyphia playing nylon ibanez they will get more popular
Theres a gap in the market for these guitars. I'd love an affordable solid body nylon like this.
This is very cool. Did you use ball end strings? Did you use normal tuners or were the holes too small for the strings? Did you tie them at the top?
Thanks! They are not ball end since the ones that I like don't come with a ball end (that I know of), so I had to make some contraption on the bridge side to have them hold themselves in place. Tuners are normal, no problems with string dimensions. They are locking tuners so I didn't need to tie anything, just locked them down like I'd do with metal strings.
hell ya this was what i was looking for!!! suscribe !
btw that one phrase reminded me of the band 3 uhh joey eppard.
Thats awesome man. How loud can you go without feedback problems?
Thanks for the reply, good to know!
that guitar is so nice
Yeah i'm glad you got into some pentatonic links near the end, but i would love to see you test the nylon strings in tandem with a distortion affect, direct, thru-amp?
right, this is not the first question about distortion. I'll have to do a video on this. Stay tuned :)
@@TraqGuitars Wakka wakka, to quote the great Fozzie bear. dont forget wah pedals
and use the scientific method.
Woah thats a sick concept! Do you have a build video?
sadly, no.. this was the first guitar I built, didn't occur to me to try to film the process. I only have photos as documentation
I like very much the concept of a solid body nylon string. I am looking for some information about how to build one. Would you be son helpful to give some infos such as a plan or details about the thickness of the body. What is the length of the scale ? What are the tuners ?
It looks like electric ones ? What kind of piezzo and preamp did you set up ? Thanks for your kind answer.
sure, here goes: I used "classical" scale length (650mm) instead of Fender standard 648mm, no big difference. Body thickness is a standard 45mm (more or less). I used 35mm mahogany plus 10mm imbuia top. Tuners are cheapo locking electric guitar tuners. The piezo is the graphtech ghost system - saddles and preamp. hope this helps :)
@@TraqGuitars so kind, thanks a lot. Congratulations for your work, very nice instrument.
I was wainting for you to plug the Metal Zone in
Sounds more like genuine acoustic guitar (perhaps due to the way it works). You won't need an acoustic sim pedal with this xD
cause piezo
Another question if you have time. What's the sustain like? I'm building an electric nylon, and I was hoping the sustain would be longer than on my classical since the energy of the string isn't being dissipated as sound. I didn't hear enough long notes to really tell in this demo.
hi sorry, for some reason I missed this question. I don't have any numbers for this at the moment, but from first principles the sustain has to be higher with less sound radiated into the air, as you say. I haven't measured the sustain vs a classical back-to-back but I think this guitar does sustain a bit better
Traq Guitars Interesting, thanks for the reply
Wonderful.
So what does the on board preamp actually do? How much different would it sound if you just wired the piezo to a regular volume pot?
its purpose is not really to alter the sound but rather to match the impedance of the piezo with the rest of the signal chain and to amplify the signal. Without the preamp I imagine you'd need more input gain (the signal would be faint) -> more noise, and you would loose some frequency response due to impedance mismatch
Now try it with a wah pedal, i’ve always wondered what an acoustic would sound with one.
I'll have to check. This and distortion. I'll do both as soon as I find a bit of free time :)
very very nice guitare !
Hey man... Could u explain more on the electronics u use and the types of stuff u put on it? I cant seems to find the right tone.. but u did.. pls help?
hmm there's nothing special really in terms of electronics. Just the standard graphtech piezo saddles and preamp.
thats a nice one !
Interesting sound. You think can be rebuild one using one electric body guitar and the neck of an acoustic? Are playing through electric or acoustic amp? Thank you
Thanks! There is no amp in the signal chain - the guitar is plugged straight into the audio interface. As for building something like this from parts of electric./acoustic guitar .. I'm not sure I fully understand your question, the neck here is modeled after a classical guitar, so this is a "classical neck" in a sense (removing an acoustic guitar neck and trying to attach it to an electric body would be very fussy ..)
I thought you had attached the neck to the guitar. Do you think a Les Paul body can be converted to a nylon strings guitar. Can be changed all the electronic system?
victor cm
Les Paul.. they have a shorter scale length so I'm not 100% sure how nylon strings would behave, but this you can check by just putting them on, without any modifications to the guitar. If that's ok then changing the bridge to one with piezo saddles and adding a preamp should work in principle
Traq Guitars Thank you. I will try it.
I love this thing!! Did you record the making process?
+jamielusions thanks! I didn't film the build, I just took some pics.. I did try to film a whole process recently, but editing a video from that is taking ages .. but it will happen at some point! :)
+Traq Guitars Thanks for replying! I have a few questions. Could you please explain how these pickups work? Also, can you distort or add any effects to the sound at all? Thanks for your time!
+jamielusions it's a piezoelectric pickup, it picks up the vibrations of the string pressing at the saddle. See for example www.seymourduncan.com/blog/the-tone-garage/piezo-vs-magnetic-pickups Then what comes out is just normal guitar signal - you can do anything you want with it, add effects, distortion, anything. I specifically didn't add any effects here to show the bare tone of the guitar. But for a recording I would.
Traq Guitars Thanks for your reply! I think I understand now xD You are a great youtuber! Keep it up, man :)
the finish on that thing is awesome i dont think ive ever seen that b4, its damn near perfect nylon stringer.
5:33 you're a savage but I feel like you had to save yourself there, great playing and sweet guitar.
well clearly my random noodling went into a dead end in that spot (and many others ;) thanks!
I'm coming from an acoustic classical background. I'm wondering if you had to chamber that body or is it solid? How did you compensate for acoustic resonance? Thank you.
I actually had the idea to chamber the body after having built the guitar. It's possible that I made some chambers to reduce weight, but with no holes, the acoutsic impact is limited as far as I understand. So this is in essence a solid body with nylon strings, it does sustain a bit longer than a hollow body but it's not very noticeable.
@@TraqGuitars too bad no one has invented a nylon string with a hair-thin metal core so the pickups can work. The core can only be a 3-4 inch length.
@@t2dev heheh that would be an interesting exercise (though ultimately wouldn't work unless you ran the core along all the length of the string since non-uniform weight distribution would wreak havoc in intonation, overtone structure etc)
Hello, honestly, I haven't even seen the worse sides, but I like the guitar with nylon strings, because I have stronger fingers, I need to know how wide the zero fret is, what the price of the guitar is and where it sits to buy, I don't know any of this even though I went through all your information. I would like an electric guitar with a zero fret width of 48 to 50mm with nylon strings, but you can also advise me with metal strings, please politely thank you Kejík
Interesting ! Hoped to hear it with a lot of distortion, but thanks.
Hey, nice guitar! Where could I get one of this?
hah thanks, there exists only one at the moment since I built it for myself :)
Hi have you feedback in live stage?
Does it have more sustain than a classical guitar?
I haven't done any measurements, but from first principles it should (less energy dissipated as sound). I'd need to check back to back to see how big the difference is.
Is the action same as that of a classical guitar or is it low action like an electric guitar?
I think I set it somewhere in between. The bridge is adjustable though so it's a matter of choice, can be changed easily.
is the string spacing at the nut the same as at the bridge?
no.. I don't have the exact numbers with me at the moment, the bridge has 10,8mm spacing saddles IIRC and the nut is one of the standard graphtech classical nuts
What is the song at 3:20? I recognise it but my mind has gone blank! I know it so well.. yet cant name it or the artist for some reason?
It bears some resemblance to Innuendo by Queen :)
Ahhhhh of course!
.
Its a Rock block of Bach and its Bach so it rocks, That he leaned to how to play in the School of Hard Knocks !
this is the first guitar you made? holy shit!
yea, it's not obvious from far away, but when you look closely you'd notice the little mistakes :)
@@TraqGuitars Great work being the first one !! Playing in nylon world I would suggest you in future installing a simple preamp w/ treble and a bass controls in order to modify eq. easier if on stage.
@@MigFern so far I only played it once on stage and I just set up my amp to get the sound right. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a bit of active EQ but I didn't bother since in all recording or playing situations I could control the EQ outside of the guitar :)
Amazing instrument !!!!
Do you have anyone for sale ?
Let me know !! And how much ?
thanks! I only built one like this, I sometimes sell guitars but not often since I mostly build for fun ;) You can get in touch via my facebook page, I post what I'm working on at the moment over there :)
Sale this one to me please !!!!!! Jajajj
I have looking for a nylon guitar and this is so nice !!! It is the sound I'm looking for !!
heh I need it :D .. plus it was my first build, a lot of errors :)
Is the action low on this one?
I'm guessing that this thing doesn't have actual pickups but internal microphones as nylon is non-magnetic?
He told you in the first minute of the video
Ah man most people just skip to mid vid to skip intro eh?
How does it sound with distortion?
Jhamar L. B. I wonder
So you've got the strings going through the body?
yea, Telecaster style. And since I couldn't find the strings I liked with a ball end I have to make some weird contraptions to have them hold in the ferrules in the back :)
Super cool. I like my two string-through guitars (ibanez six28fdbg and src6) a lot more than the other two regular ones. Wish I could do a project like this but I'm too busy practicing guitar daily in all my free time haha. Maybe once I'm more skilled :)
Hi! Do you make these for purchase?
wish I could, but with the amount of free time I have these days, it takes me 2-3 years to finish a build [facepalm]
how to string that guitar
That is cool ... can I simply replace pick ups on my electric guitar hey presto poor mans godin multiac nylon?
short answer: yes, if you put a piezo pickup in (some electrics have one for and "acoustic guitar sound") and put nylon strings on, you'll get something like this.
Nice! How much? ^_^
Wow that sounds better then a Chet atkins
Electric nylon guitars are a niche. Nice guitar there. They seem to have so much potential for tone that steel strings can't make : -)
I discovered this video after seeing the one for the SQOE Tele: ruclips.net/video/iXv3pI7Uhhk/видео.html So I ordered an Ibanez thinline nylon semi-acoustic to start playing around with these sorts of tones. But I think one of the keys is to do what you have done and put nylon on a solid body to give the piezo something to work against ...
Awesome Job. Send me one?
The fuck?
What’s song at 3:18
That's Innuendo by Queen. (was supposed to be :P)
But does it Djent?
LOL, ask Stevie T.
Let's all tell him to djent,have him djent a double 6 v 12
Wana sell it??
not really, I don't have the time right now to make myself another one :(
@@traqq let me know if you ever change your mind. :)
I want it so hard
GOOD FOR YOU, BUT YOU NEED TO WORK IN EQ
EQ IS VITAL TO CREATE SOUNDS.
I HAD A 2000 DEAN CLASSICAL ELECTRIC GUITAR WITH THE MOST CHEAPEST EQ 4
WITH THE EQ I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE GUITAR SOUND LIKE RAMIREZ CLASSICAL GUITAR OR FENDER TELECASTER ,OR GIBSON WHEN I WANTED TO PLAY RHYTHM,ALSO I CONNECTED TO OVERDRIVE PEDAL AND SOUNDED LIKE GIBSON 335, BUT THE MAIN SOUND WAS A CLASSICAL GUITAR.
WHY ARE WE SCREAMING?!!
How does it sound with distortion?
I've actually started preparing a very short video showing that :)
I'm looking forward or should i say....we're all looking forward🤣
Coz pretty much everyone wants to hear it with distortion
