this man is a national treasure to the french and rightly so, im only sixteen yet his music moves in, he is a legend and has earnt all of his fame and fortune.
I shall never tire of this wonderful, wonderful voice song music of Michel le Grand who has to be one of the best ever composers musicians who exudes style elegance and a charisma no one can ever touch!
believe it or not I was a kid when I first saw michel legrand interviewed by mike douglas ... totally changed me musically for the rest of my life... pure genius.... my favorite composer
Greatness seeks its own level. Here, the lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman send our minds spinning as we follow along, and they also collaborated on the music with Michel Legrand. Academy Awards were very much deserved for this outstanding achievement. The song is perfect.
Miss him so much! Such a wonderful composer and musician! So warm and full of character! A really lovely man! He took the trouble to answer one of my emails to him too and I was immensely touched! x
Noel Harrison is the one who sings the theme in the '68 film, but many have recorded. I don't think Legrand has ever composed anything less than beautiful. Thank you "redsong" for finding and posting.
Beautiful in french :), i have only ever heard this song in English. When it was the sound track from the 'Thomas Crown Affair' in 1968. Simply beautiful :) :)
The correct title for this version of the song is "Les Moulins de mon cœur" (The Windmills of my Heart). Music by Michel LeGrand. French lyrics by Eddie Marnay - not the same as the original English lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
I love the understated voices of the composers and the tools they have to work with. Burt Bacharach singing "Alfie" BLVD PROD. couldn't be any better - and Michel can do no wrong. These songs are beautifully inspired. Fantastic works from the living composers give us something to grow from. Show the youngsters - they know very little. . . Green Day and Oasis. Here is something they can feel deeply. This comes from the heart and it is handed to you to recognize.
If anyone finds an interpretation that comes even close to the genius in this one - and I'm not even asking for something superior - please do tell. I haven't yet.
I wouldn't agree that the lyrics are anything special, however, the song is beautiful. And, in my opinion, one of the greatest songs of all time. The Noel Harrison version is my favourite, but this is still very nice.
And when you think it's not one of his best interpretations. All the same, his music, the lyrics are pure beauty. Try the interpretations of Danny Brillant and Frida Boccara, awesome too! and enjoy!
no, his intonations are so delicate and beautiful!!...and he sounds and looks perfectly and without a lot of colours clothes:) In any case he looks much better than those sated faces (on video).
@Figaro48 YES!!!! Wolfgang is THE musical genius, one of a kind, none other like him. A quote from M. Davenport's biography when relating the trip to Prague with Constanze: "Sometimes he would sit up very straight and his pale face would redden. Then Constanze knew he was composing." Not even a need for a keyboard. And then he would simply have it memorized and cast a few notes on a piece of paper, which he did not even need later. Not that it makes Legrand less of a composer.
Michel Le Grand wrote this popular song but the composer of the music is MOZART. The melody comes from the Andante Movement of his Sinfonia Concertante. Yes, indeed he was a genius.
The two pieces of music do have a similarity, true. But to say that Mozart composed the music to this song is a big stretch. The only point of similarity is in the opening motif of the 2nd movement, after which the two are dissimilar.
why isnt he wearing a black beret, and a blue and white T shirt and garlic and herbs around his neck,.............................................ps alison moyet sings it 1000000000000000000000000000000000.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.000000000000000000000000000000000.5 times better!
I keep coming back here....My soul's been captivated by this unparalleled beauty of his music...forever.
Michel Legrand is the Mozart of our time...awesome talent...Great Master...
This wonderful song is a timeless classic.
Merci Monsieur Legrand.
Imagine writing something that good?!!! Pure genius. Sends chills down my spine.
I agree but Mozart has his hand in it as well. KV 364 second movement.
this man is a national treasure to the french and rightly so, im only sixteen yet his music moves in, he is a legend and has earnt all of his fame and fortune.
Excelent comment Matt. It is a beautiful piece rendered by its creator. I am glad the new generation is open to the culture that has preceeded it.
Absolutely astounding !!
Rest in Peace, thank you for your gift of music

Beautiful song! I also love " Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg).

The greatest in the video (except of the music) are the faces of the people listening to the music...
no, his intonations are so delicate and beautiful!!...and he sounds and looks perfectly and without a lot of colours clothes:) In any case he looks much better than those sated faces (on video).
of course he wrote it--give the man credit.
He wrote songs the whole world could understand
Where can I find this video (to buy)? He's amazing...simply amazing!
@Toracube He's the composer, he didn't write it =) But it was composed well, indeed.
Respect.

@dakotahorvath You sir, need to go and listen to some Shostakovich.
Wonderfull music but he should leave the singing to others.
