- Threave Rovers Football Club in the borders of Scotland chose to "relegate" themselves in one of the most unique non league stories I've ever come across!

Man what's brilliant is even with the football season is over I can still get my fix of football content from good old Footy Adventures. Keep up the top work man.
Cheers Reece, not a lot going on football wise just now so glad to help! More videos to come soon :)
Only about a month till the League Cup group stage starts north of the border, isn't it? Not too long to wait!
Threave House was built for William Gordon in 1872. This Scottish Baronial mansion is made from the distinct red sandstone from nearby Dumfries. Home of the Gordon family, the house and surrounding estate was gifted to the Trust by Major Alan Gordon upon his death in 1957
If anyone was wondering =)
I really enjoy watching these videos of Scottish non leage clubs, it's grass roots football at it's best and really interesting.
The bit that surprised me is there 10 leagues in Scotland. In Australia we are lucky to have 2 hahaha
The Garden of Contemplation!
Another great episode!
There was a club called Tarff Rovers in the south (Wigtownshire), formed in 1874, sadly defunct in 2003, their biggest signing was Chic Charnley. The ground Balgreen Park still exists.
I remember playing and scoring against Tarff when I had a season with Stranraer reserves.
Excellent video again. What we have all come to expect from Sam. Well done.👏😊
Interesting story and lovely day to visit!
A non league club near me, Winsford United have submitted to be relegated for this coming season. They played last year in the 9th Tier of English football, in the North West Counties Premier, but have been moved laterally to be in the Midlands league. They'll be playing teams from Wolverhampton, Lichfield, Walsall etc and unfortunately can't afford the travel costs and their working players won't be able to get the time off work to leave earlier to get down south on a Tuesday night game. So, after a rejected appeal to remain in the NWCPL, they've asked to be relgated to the tenth tier and compete in the North West Counties South Division.
I believe Vauxhall Motors had to do something similar and relegate themselves due to financial diffculties and after a few years, they've been promoted into the 8th tier, the Northern Premier League West Division.
Brilliant video Sam , very interesting 👍
Many thanks!
These vids are 'top shelf' Sam.
Thanks from me, I look forward to them. & damn !
In years gone by, I've ridden around that area, & book marked in the memory how much I liked the Castle Douglas area,
& never knew of the house & gardens.
Hoping to learn more about many of the lower leagues sides in the future.
Keep up the good work Sam, 👋😊👍
Looks like a great wee club. Great video as usual
Thanks mate!!
Everyone says that the National League should absorb Scottish and Welsh football, and while I understand the financial gain... I think you'd lose a lot of small town clubs like this one... because they'd be pushed down to some hypothetical 19th tier or something
This is great. Thanks!
Excellent video about threave rovers. Well done Sam.
love the visits to non league grounds, would love to see you visit, FC Isle of Man, Jersey Bulls and Guernsey FC as they are all unique within the english pyramid
Glad to see the non league videos back!
I know I’ve mentioned it a few times , but you should do one on Yeovil town. Now they have been taken over and the new owner seems like the kind of guy who would happily show you around and talk to you. He’s been very open about the club and meeting fans himself
I've always liked Yeovil Town
Another great video! Would love to see you go to more games abroad across Europe and explore the places and go the football absolutely love them videos. You should go to games who's seasons are still playing over summer as well such as Norway , Sweden , Finland etc. If possible. Keep up the good work mate.
Another fantastic vid Sam. Visited Threave Gardens last year and it was absolutely great. Wonderful place. Threave Rovers will be in the same division as my home team next season. The "Super K" - Kello Rovers 😁👍
Anothe top vid Sam. Cant wait until next season to see which teams you cover. Keep up the brilliant work and wishing you continued success.
Another great video Sam. Looks z lovely place too.
Great to see you back Sam! Missed the videos thought something had happened but good to see you having a break after a mad season
Another awesome reel Sam. It’s a pleasure watching your content. Thanks
Got Threave on the to do list for next year. Castle Douglas is a cracking place. Good to see you back at it
Cheers Ross! Yeah I've gotta return for a game soon
Bob Mortimer would agree (?) with you there.
what a club and what a man ⚫⚪
Brilliant.
Awesome vid. Subscribed. Do you ever do vids on grass roots football? I’m an English guy who lives in Scotland and my lads play grassroots here. 2012s and 2016s. It’s ace seeing them learning and coming up. Scotlands future stars in the making. My older lad has a tournament this weekend. It’s his last one at 7 a side then they go to 9s. I’m actually gonna miss grass roots football when he and his brother grow older. I might need to have more children or get some grandchildren on the go. Will speak to my older Son, who is in his mid 20s, on that one! Thank you again for this Awesome vid.
In my 60s and been a Celtic fan 50 years not been going to the games as much over the last few years next season thinking of going to watch Stirling Albion
I live in Stranraer but when ever passing Castle Douglas the Mrs and I can't help but go to Moores chippy it's delicious so might have to pay a visit to threave Rovers next time as well didn't even know they existed until this very video. Thank you very much sir 👍
I live near Castle Douglas the Threave estate and castle are nice areas to walk. The only time I’ve saw Threave play was against Auchinleck Talbot in Auchinleck my home village. Great video as always.
Amazing video Sam love your content
Interesting they asked why they wanted “a volunteer relegation”, thank you for making the video Sam 😊
Enjoy the off season, summer
We go again in new season :)
Really interesting video Sam.
He’s back 🙌🏽
You were so close to my Grans local,
St Cuthbert Wanderers down in Kirkcudbright who had one of the worst away days in history when they traveled all the way up to Ross County from the borders and lost 11-0 😅
Yeah I still need to see St Cuthbert! They played the longest ever Scottish Cup trip I do believe v Wick Academy? Can't remember if it was up north or down south but that's one hell of a trip
This guy cant half give himself a good scratch.
Another really good video 👏🏻👏🏻
got a team photo holding my flag, lovely guys.
Love your videos
Newcastle Blue Star did a similar thing in voluntarily relegating themselves.
Sure they were liquidated and few years later they reformed as a phoenix
South west of Scotland not Borders
Aye I tell the guys at work in Glasgow this all the time about stranraer. Glasgow is closest to the borders than Stranraer lol
Because of the different tv regions & their coverage of games , many confused or non geographical folk I knew believed Yeovil vs Bournemouth wasn’t a local derby but Brighton vs Bournemouth at twice the distance was ! 👍
When are you going to visit the women's games in Orkney?
The chairman gave a good reason for the switch from the South to the West. Maybe within 10 years Threave will regain their place back in the Lowland
Mistook Vale of Leven for Vale of Leithen for a second there - although with the way the latter are going, they'll be joining them in the 9th tier soon enough...
What app and/or website did you use to show the 10th teir table?
That actually looked like wikipedia!
you need to visit Ardeer Thistle in Stevenston
Are you going to any Scotland games in the summer ?????
Best channel on youtube
When I read the caption I thought you were talking about Rancid FC ... thought they jumped first before the liquidators come again 🤣🤣.
Would love it if you go to Isle of Man or the Channel Islands (Guernsey FC and Jersey Bulls) to watch their football…
Want tonsee you visit matlock Town and witness the insane sight of being at one end kf the ground and there just being this massive valley and hill beyond the far end
Don't understand how the lowland league teams got above all the juniors set up
the wos Premier league teams are far better
i go to watch Caledonian braves as their local but alot better games to watch in the wos league
The sfa that made the bottleneck same as the teams from the championship trying to get back into the Premier league
Bottom line is the sfa don't want certain teams playing in higher league
Just to add love your videos and the effort you made to promote the lower leagues you do more than the sfa
Threave are going up 📈⚪️⚫️
Was Scunthorpe United's second relegation made on purpose? Just wondering.
If you are ever looking for new content to shot or a new league to look into , you should come down to South Africa 🇿🇦😁
Can you and find out what the story is with Greenock Juniors ? Don’t think anyone from Greenock even knows who runs the team who manages the team or what’s happened to them, mystery club who turned shite 😂
Can we have subtitles for the Scots 😂
Ya poor soul
My home town mun
Are you rangers in disguise? 👀
You really have to research for stuff to do in the off-season right?
Never call a team in Galloway from the border area mate😂 we hate that. Very much a Galloway or D&G team. Stewartry. Or like Stranraer is in Wigtownshire. I know you know this but we don't like it😂😂
jesus read some george macdonald fraser. D & G was very much a border frontier region historically. Its legit to call it a border area even it its not the "Borders"

Scotland.
The fact that Threave Rovers
where even allow to enter
The West Region Football
system is a complete joke in my view there so could
promotion success comes at
the cost of other clubs that are actually based in
The West of Scotland.
Threave Rovers should of been told to bolt to put it politely when they tried to
gain entry to
The West of Scotland football
League stysum.
Threave Rovers should of been told sorry your not from
the West of Scotland to go away & dont come back
they belong in
The South Region system &
that is the bottomline.
Threave Rovers are nothing more than a bunch of chancers that will in the end
up finding there own level
& it will not be a level they will like in years to come.
My money is long term they
end up having to apply to
get in The Football League League system for
the South of Scotland again.
Threave Rovers represent
everything that is wrong
with the football league structure in Scotland
it's no wonder our football is seen as a joke outside of
Scotland with radicals
situation like
Threave Rovers playing our
league structure in
the west of Scotland.
Last season I went to
watch a game at this level
Thorn Athletic v Glenvale
& it was diabolicaly bad
you would see better games
in the local park my Dad also went to a different game at that level & he sead it was just as bad as when me
& my Girlfriend went.
As time go's on honestly
I have less & less interest
in club football in Scotland
for so many factors I would be here all day listening them.
In my view football in
Scotland is slowly killing itself
It's terrible to see happening but happening it is.
Keep Safe Sam.
Don't sit on the fence fella. Tell us how you really feel...
