"Stick Magnetic Ribbons on Your SUV" Directed by: Morgan Higby Night brought to you by the evil doers at devilsnight.com OFFICIAL HONOREE of the 2007 Webby Awards!
Currently in Afghanistan never thought I'd be here listening to it here. I used to listen to these guys on bob and tom back in the day. Wish they were still together!
best songs tom political stuff --don´t remember it when I found -it --but I remmeber after NEW YORK TWIN TOWER ATTACK --my place and a conversatin in "yusimini National park " --it is easy to go to afganisthan --but not easy to get out --since QUEEN VICTORIA --so all you --so call " doesn´t matter --you not worth it""--tue rollf --figger it out by yourself
WOW. Thanks for showing just one of the highest forms of patriotism for our country. It's folks like you that give me hope for this seemingly hopeless country and world. Please keep up the great work!
I've seen this so many times I have that tune going through my head everyday now. Does anyone remember John Prine's "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore?" It's time for a revival.
First of all, the production quality of this is brilliant! Simply smashing! Secondly, the performance is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD and incredibly funny. Third, the tone, theme and content are precisely as they were intended to be. This is a not-so-tongue-in-cheek jab at the Bush Administration and its failed policy in the whole of the Middle East. I'm pleased to see it accomplished its task and got you folks into a frank dialogue about how painful and ridiculous the whole thing is.
Absolutely fantastic! Sight gags, guns, hoses, dancing ribbons, all that stuff, lyrics- if we can call them that-- OTW! Heard it out of the blue yesterday, have to watch it again and again! The original song is pretty good too-- very sad, war dead, lost sweethearts, but happy ending. Love the musical backing, the little riff that it has. Where the hell is Tony Orlando and Dawn? Somehow missed it the first time, or don't remember; it's a tiny bit cheesy, but still affecting. Look at the wiki article about the history of this song-- it goes on and on, through several wars, maybe back to the US civil war. Amazing, the whole thing. And Sonny and Cher did a cute version too- back in the 70s. A whole new world opens up when you pursue the history of these songs Congrats to the Spankers-- are they still around?
AWESOME!!! I have been asking for years.... "Why aren't the Spankers ridiculously famous?" I don't want to have them as "my little secret" anymore. LONG LIVE THE SPANKERS!!!!
My 19 year old cousin was KIA in Iraq in 2004 and we've had a special wave for those beribboned SUV's ever since! What have those drivers sacrificed for this war they're so "supportive" of? Thanks for making the point so well and helping my family find something to laugh about.
Very nice production values, and clever writing. It was a pleasure to see this. And of course, I agree that those stupid yellow ribbons only show how clueless the owner of one is about supporting our troops.
This is great. Both myself and husband work for DoD and are retired Army. Can't tell you how many folks we fight in DC on a daily basis to provide funds for safer equipment for the troops.I have a son-in-law in Iraq now. The top priority in DC is rarely about the troops, best we can do is pick our fights and show up everyday to make them feel guilty enough to care. Needless to say they all have a ribbon on their SUVs, after-all "image" is important.
God Bless America! I'm glad there are still people who have the guts to do something like this. I love it when as bad as things are, someone can still make you laugh at how ridiculous the things we are experiencing really are. Thank You For The Laughs
I agree with acidbass808 below, I can't get this out of my head, I find myself singing it in the shower or as I drift off to sleep at night. That's okay, because I love this parody--the musicality, the lyrics, the performance, the editing of the final sequence, and the MESSAGE. You guys are great.
Bravo Heavylid, while we all go off on tangents about politics, you have hit the nail squarely on the head on what the song is actually about, along with the LBJ quote above. Amazing how many people don't seem to understand satire. SUV Song is not aimed at politicians or policy, but at a mind-numb populace who think that they can spend $1.93 "and get off scot-free".
brilliant! This is my first time commenting on anything, and I think it's wonderful, what a great piece of work, keep it up, those with IQ ratings over 80 support you and who cares about the rest!
Great video. Love it. Never heard of this band until I saw this video. After exploring their website I'm a big fan. The Hick Hop video is awesome also.
This is fucking awesome. Thank God someone is eloquently and articulately expressing what the thinking person is thinking. Perfect. Love it. I wish I could make you guys stars.
To be honest, I wrote the demo to a karaoke version of the song. Then the band took the chord structure straight from the demo. Nice to see that there are some fans of the original song out there. Go Tony Orlando!
in my home town of Edmonton, the police force had a vote about whether or not it should be mandatory to wear a yellow ribbon. To my surprise, they voted against it. I was so proud!
Love this video! It's a great statement for all those people who think they're more patriotic than everyone else because they stick flags, eagles, and yellow ribbon magnets on their Suburban Assault Vehicles.
I loved it! It makes a great point. No matter how you feel about the war, it's important to support the members of our military. Write to your congressmen to ask them not to cut the pay and benefits of our troops. Also, please make donations to veteran's charities. There are thousands of veterans living on the street in this country... they deserve better.
Good point from the above-mentioned website: "To ensure your purchase directly benefits a charitable organization connected with our armed forces, ask the magnet's seller where the proceeds from the sale will be sent. Those that are legitimate will have no problem telling you where the money will go while those selling them merely for profit will likely not be able to provide a satisfactory answer."
Brilliantly written and performed! Most political parody, and almost all song parody in general is intolerable. This is a welcomed exception. I'm going to watch it again right now.
bravo! well done! i'm guessing that the majority of those that would despise this video, really don't get it. and they probably have magnetic ribbons on their suv's as well.
when the lead singer started to sing, I was surprised how good his voice was. nice job!
Currently in Afghanistan never thought I'd be here listening to it here. I used to listen to these guys on bob and tom back in the day. Wish they were still together!

Been humming your song for a week now, evidently both my conscious and unconscious are in totalagrrement with your song! Simply genius!

I don't know HOW many times I have watched this over the last year or so, but I never get tired of it. Pure brilliance!

I am madly in love with the Spankers.
I am certainly glad I didn't have to pee before I watched this. Mucho Kudos from Austin, TX
I'm having a hard time deciding which is more awesome... this song or the lead singer's hair. Both are fantastic!
Fantastic.
Sad to see them call it quits. But the upside , we have Guy Forysth and Wammo to entertain us! Guy's been doing it for years! I love all of them!
This is fucking awesome. Thank God someone is eloquently and articulately expressing what the thinking person is thinking. Perfect. Love it. I wish I could make you guys stars.

Wammo was indeed in Slacker.

That's fantastic. From the music theme to the presentation to the lyrics. Wow.
Is that Clint Howard in the background?
Brilliant! I've got a ribbon sticker says "Just Pretend It's All Okay".
Support American apathy, and passivity.
Wow. Talk about heroes.
Thanks! My sentiments exacty.
Genius!
I've loved this video since it's inception.
This is so awasome!! i love it!
Wammo, the lead singer on this song, was in Slacker. It's possible some of the others were too - the Spankers are an Austin band.
Love it!! these guys are great. always felt this way!
The "honors" don't seem to update instantly. At present, we're listed in three categories.
Brilliant.

Brilliantly written and performed! Most political parody, and almost all song parody in general is intolerable. This is a welcomed exception. I'm going to watch it again right now.
Best thing I've seen all day... Hey is that one guy the one who was in "the ultimate losers" band in Slacker?
GREAT! Can't wait for "you only like me for my lunchbox"
