I built one that the dealer tried to start with a bad head gasket and said the motor was bad. They tried to start a hydraulic motor so it shortened one of the rods. Great motor 200k miles and cylinders had less than 1/2 thousands ware in them. Complete kits for that motor with pistons are expensive for a 4cyl.
Cylinders look good after a nice scratch, no lip at the top for the miles or km on it, wash it it out good throw some parts at it, I’m sure you will have it running like a champ. Nice video zig
She doesn’t look too bad the problem is by the time you pay the labour to pull the motor out....... for the sake of the cost of the bottom end bearings you might as well change the lot..... and while it’s all on the bench same with the rings......... Specially for me as a DIYer it takes a fair bit of time so while you’re there you don’t want the daily driver off the road any more than it has to be..... I tell you what your customers are bloody lucky they’ve got you mate here in Canberra they would turn their nose up at that job they want 280 bucks for dropping oil.....!!!!!! And that’s it
Here's the great part of it...I'm a mechanic and I fix things...Not just a parts fitter...Enough parts to make it good as gold will be $500...A couple days labour...$1600...Fully serviced cylinder head...$500..Fluids,filters,plugs,etc...$150...Newe radiator...$200...Total guesstimate...Under $3,000 drive away.
@@ziggassedup yeh my mates say the same about their job , they just fit parts and it bores them, me a backyard mechanic i get to have a play and learn more and more, years ago i worked on mines and repair workshops on cats, komatsus, leibher, hitachi etc they were complete restos even on the mine site and i did locomotive engines too etc etc it was very interesting but very dirty and heavy, id be black head to toe 7 days a week , shower time was a real workout, youd love it Ziggy LOL i know you LOVE diesels , i wreaked of cruddy old deisel engine oil etc etc.
Is there anything to do to investigate why is was overheating? Or do you suspect just low coolant or something? I love watching these videos of the guts.
I do know they had plans to fit a new radiator so I'd say they had overheating issues prior...It'll get a new Rad and thermostat and waterpump....All bases covered.
still in surprisingly good shape and now i want one LOL. rebuilt more power and ready to hoon around the streets again , she'll be back!!!!
She'll be good as gold.

The cheapest quote they got was $7,000...I recon they'll be up for about $3500-$4000 from me..
Thought it was going to be a real pig once pulled apart, but not to shabby at all. Nice work Mr Zig!
Cheers Mark.
I check my ring gap the exact same way Zig! Cheers Mate..
It's the only way mate....Cheers.
Cool,.... pretty clean inside
Yes it was....Once!

That's the plan!
Yep, don't ask don't tell is a lot of drivers out there in a company vehicle with maintenance.
We'll never know about this one Lloyd but we'll make it good.
Ahh someone that knows how to hone a cyl to get a good cross hatch. 👍👍
Learned that 45 years ago...
I wish I knew what I was doing like you do Zig. Nice work
Cheers Johno...You can do it!
you give a pretty good impression of knowing what you are doing Badge and having enough nouse to work out/learn the rest
Following along Zig.
Cheers Tush.

Pretty gunked up rings
Yeah Ron...Lots of carbon in there.
yep, those rings sure did have a lot of undesirable build up under them.
And yet not worn badly...

so do ya check the water pump. or maybe a problem with an electric fan or relay or fuse?
I'm gunna put a new water pump on it...It runs a mechanical fan with a viscous coupling...I'll have a look at that too...Cheers mate.
Hi mate where abouts are you located exactly? I'm in Brisbane northside and I've got a 2trfe turbo workmate that'll need a refresh at some point
Western Sydney mate...Probably a little far to travel I recon...
