    Treasure trove of info specially for a beginner like me. This video has probably saved me days of trial and error, reading the manual, watching videos etc. I'm sure I'll be watching this video over and over while my experience grows. Thank you so much. Keep safe and God bless.

    Great instructional video. Now it is years later and I'm shopping for a used D 750 for personal birding photography. This video will be my primary go-to resource for essential information. Well done Dave!

    I rarely leave responses to RUclips, but I'll make an exception here. In so many ways this video has been extremely helpful. You suggest what to do (as do others) but then you go on to explain why doing it as you suggest is an improvement.
    I've had my D750 for half a year, and decided I would try just about all your settings (but not the back-up settings in case your hand got tired). Everything works as you describe, and it makes things easier for me, once I remember what is done where.
    Just a few things I do differently from what you describe now. Rather than shoot in (M)anual mode, which I still do at times, I set U1 for scenery photos and U2 for photos with people. I guess that's not such a big deal as I decided that the only way I will get good at RAW is to start using it for any photos I care about, and those settings almost always give me a good exposure, or at least a good starting point.
    You ended up using autofocus - continuous, rather than autofocus - single. After reading about autofocus - auto, I decided to try that. It not only does what continuous does, I've read that it attempts to focus on a person's eyes. While watching the focus point move around on the screen, it does seem to be attempting to do that.
    People have told me for years that I should use the back-button for focus, and it never made sense to me. After thinking about what you explained, I wish I'd have switched years ago.
    Assuming you're still using the D750 for lots of photo work, are there any things that you do differently for landscape type photos, or for photographing people (not weddings)?
    I've had Nikon cameras since the 1960's, using a Nikon SP for ages. Things sure have changed. Compared to my D2h, D2x, an D3, your suggestions allow me to concentrate more on the "photo" and less on the "camera settings".

    • @dqstudios
      @dqstudios  8 лет назад +5

      Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your thoughts +Mike Myers . Re: landscape. I would definitely use the same settings. The only thing that may make a difference, depending on composition and aperture selection, is that the live-view may be of use for focus - for some reason if there's enough light, the live-view focusing seems more accurate. Cheers and happy shooting!

    • @MikeMyers00
      @MikeMyers00 8 лет назад +2

      Interesting experience. I have my U1 and U2 settings based on what you recommended, U1 for "landscape" and U2 for "people".
      I went to a fishing village at 5:45am in India as boats were being launched. It was so dark I could barely see. The D750 would focus once in a while, but usually not. After a few minutes, i tried to turn the focus-assist-light back on, but couldn't.
      A day later, it turns out that to do this, I need to press the button at the left and change the autofocus setting to AF-S, after which the light worked fine.
      Since it won't work anyway with your suggested settings, there doesn't seem to be any point in turning it off; for me, it's better to leave it "on", so if I need it, I just change my autofocus setting to single focus.

    I have been contemplating an upgrade from my d7000 to a d750 or possibly a d810 and have watched MANY video reviews on youtube and read many reviews on blogs etc. The d750 appears to be the natural choice, for me, and your video has been the most in depth, truest, unbiased and helpful from all that I've watched or read thus far. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make it. This camera is certainly packed with features that many others haven't touched on and the choice for me is even clearer now. I hope others on the fence about this camera come to land on your video, thanks again!

      I have an D750 and a Fuji X-T1 with 9 lenses, however the Nikon is what I reach for when I shoot people that need fast reflexes. The Fuji is a great travel camera, however.

      Wow. I am in the exact same boat. I have a D7000 now and I am looking to get either a D810 or a D750. I take things such as price into consideration (DUH !!). But not just the price of the camera itself. I am referring to the CF cards that I will have to put in there. The fastest CF card that I've seen is 160MB/s. That card is $150 for a 64Gb. That's expensive when you compare that to the price of SD cards which this camera takes. The battery grip (which I have become accustomed to using, is more expensive as well. I keep flip flopping in my head about which to get. I also will need a new tripod due to the added weight of my new big lens and camera combo. All in all, I think I will most likely get the 750,but that 810 is calling me. I hate to do the same thing twice if I don't need to. Spending more money on the 810 now may be more practical for me than buying a 750 and being upset about any limitations which it may have. But at this point, I think I will have to take my chances and head in the direction of the 750. I will spend the extra money on 2 san disk extreme pro 256MB 64Gb cards instead lol

      Thomas Maxxamus I was thinking of A7 II , but with mirrorless experience I have, I had to really think this through... At the end I decided to go with D750. Mirrorless is cool and fun to use, but in terms of quality and endurance, there are only two "racing horses" in the world Canon and Nikon. Not to talk about the number/choice of lenses ( without adapters / AF compatibility questions...) If someones biggest concern is weight, and light back pack only then I would highly suggest mirrorless.

    10:54, make sure to set it to ON(Image review excluded). If this is on just ON you'll end up going through the pictures when you use the command dial instead of changing shutter speed. I had this issue at a wedding where I had to quickly change shutter speed and every time it was just scrolling through the images. Had to change it to ON(Image review excluded).

I missed so many shots because I wanted to quickly change settings but instead scrolled through images, zoomed in and what no.
