I used fuji and sony for some years, I went all the way and got last year an A7 R4 plus a 100-400 gm lens plus some others. I finally decided to keep the fuji systems. The sony system is incredible and the 61mp was amazing, but honestly I was not getting what I was hoping for from Sony. I was using my fuji gear more often than sony, and I also was noticing I was having more keepers with the Fuji system. Its not always about the best camera but the one you feel more happy and conformable to use. cheers and cool video.

I am stuck with my Fuji gear. I borrowed a7iv for a few weeks and Ohh My God! the video auto-focus took my breath away. In regional Australia, it's kinda hard to sell off used camera gear. Any suggestion where to sell please? My very last resort would be on eBay.

I did the opposite: Had (still have but am going to sell it in some days) the A7III and was always happy with the results and never happy with the experience of shooting. Now the A7iv shows me that I am not willing to pay that much for my next camera, especially when not satisfied with the shooting itself. Bought a fuji x-e4 two months ago and was thrilled about using it. Plus the results were very pleasing (the colors!). So since two weeks I have the x-t4 and am very happy about it, too. Had to sell almost all my fe-lenses but it was worth it.

@@talkelley3 I switched completely after working with the X-T4 for some weeks. I have no regrets at all! The new kit is lighter, smaller, cheaper, has the amazing fuji-colors and the image quality is really good. Especially high-Iso is very well looking with the Fujis, way better then the full-frame Sony in my eyes. The AF is not on pair but good enough for my needs, the tracking - well, Sonys A7III has none 😉In my eyes, full frame is a trap unless you really need the full potential of full-frame. And by this I mean debth of field most. I bought the brilliant 18mm f1,4 from Fuji and I absolutely adore it although its equivalent is "only" 27mm f2. I’m glad you like the Sony system.
I currently have the Sony A7RIV and I feel like whenever I’m taking photos, I’m fighting against the camera to try to take them. Sure, the autofocus is good, but the lag when I change any setting is really annoying.
The IBIS barely does anything, sometimes introducing a weird shake into the camera when it’s not in e-front curtain shutter (and this is at any shutter speed below 1/400!) The weather sealing works in heavy rain, but gives errors since the hot-shoe isn’t sealed well by the cover. None of my other cameras have ever done this. And to put the nail in the coffin, they discontinued my camera, with a grand total of two bug fix firmware updates, one of which was just a year after release.
Autofocus, battery, and resolution are the only things good about the A7RIV.
I’m thinking of switching to Fuji. I don’t shoot professional photos and doubt I ever will get a gig, so putting up with the many downsides of Sony isn’t worth it for me. 😞

Do you edit in LR? If so, Fuji Raws are really bad in LR. The worms and noise is annoying. There‘s even noise at Iso 640… I wouldn‘t switch from Sony to Fujifilm. I‘ve always been a Fuji shooter and the most annoying thing is editing in LR. I‘d use C1 but it‘s very different and hard to get used to. I‘m thinking of switching to a Sony a7Rii or iii which ever I’ll find for a good price. High resolution for cropping and low noise are the most attractive to me.

I sold my Sony A7II after trying the xt4 for 30 min. I was so f-in sick of having to do EVERYTHING in menues, having to edit every single raw file if you want to use a photo, garbage battery life and hard to grade footage and c-log. So what if the xt4 is aps-c? The damn Arri Alexa is "Super 35mm" (aka same size), and saying that is "not as cinematic" as a full frame A7 is just... RUclips vloggers are somehow so concerned with everything 'cinematic', yet everything they film is half framed garbage. The hatred that the second generation Sonys left in me still burns strong.

@@terryjohnson5747 id say because the difference between “full-frame” and “crop-sensor” are becoming less obvious. Yes, there are some noticeable differences between DOF and ISO performance when comparing images side by side, but not by a huge amount. Fuji is doing an amazing job at keeping up with its competitors and even doing better in some areas with the fully capable APSC sensors.

Great video, The Biggest problem with Fuji Raw files is Adobe processing. When u switch to Capture one its a totally different world the images are sharper, cleaner and the colors are also better even my canon raw files are better. I still use photoshop shop once i export but i never use lightroom or Adobe camera raw to handle Fuji files. Hopefully they fix that one day cause its a huge issue. I shoot full frame canon as well Canon R6 but to be honest the Fuji files from my XT4 are equally as good and with the newer lenses especially the 33f1.4 and 50mm f1.0 they are just too sharp and I end applying a bit of smoothening.

Well actually an APS-C can beat a full frame easily. Fujifilm X-T4 for example has better image quality in RAW & JPEG than the Canon EOS RP. The **size** of the sensor isn't the only aspect for image quality, otherwise we would stuck in the same quality for years! Makes sense now, right? Edit: Let's not forget about video, Fujifilm X-T4 absolutely destroys Canon EOS RP and all Sony A7 series so far. APS-C is the standard format the Hollywood is using for the movies. Another prove that sensor size isn't about quality.

Stil have my Canon 5D III and six L series lenses including the 50mm f1.2. Several years ago I bought a Fujifilm X100T: fun to shoot, intuitive, great film simulations and, most importantly, light enough that it went everywhere with me. From there I bought the XT2 and later upgraded to the XT4. I now have range of Fuji glass, the f/2.0s for a light kit and secondly a slightly heavier fast prime selection when needed. The image quality is superb. I believe your criticism of artefacts in Fuji files should really be levelled at Lightroom’s raw processor and not the Fuji sensor. I run Adobe Lightroom and Capture One with the lattter providing stellar results with Fuji files. That said, a great image is so much more than peeping at pixels. For me personally, it’s not the gear but the skill of photographer that matters and any camera that makes me want to shoot is paramount in my decision making. If Sony does that for you, then you’ve made a great choice and I wish you al the best.

I don’t do video but here is my 2 cent on this. For my weddings I use both. The fuji colours and the Depth you get to the image is insane. It’s like art it just has this unique look to it that blows my mind. Now when I need to use fast movement and dancing shots my Sonys are in but during the day and with people standing around I lean towards the fuji and fuji jpegs at that. In edit I just brighten it up or darken it and I might adjust white balance but for the most part I’m barely adjusting. It’s less time in front of the screen editing so it pays to have both systems for the look in after. I found with sony Putting so much in after to get the look I need that it counteracts the fact it’s perfect in every other way. I also enjoy using the fuji more. The files blow my mind. It has that something that I can only call Depth, like looking into someone sole.

How do you compare rolling shutter in Fuji and Sony A7IV? I heard that it has some problems with that especially in fast panning. And I would like to share some thoughts about lens selection for you new Sony camera. Sony 16-35 is a good lens but too expensive for my taste, you can bay Tamron 17-28 2.8 + new Tamron 35-150 2.0-2.8 almost for the same price, or you can bay Tamron 17-28 2.8 + Tamron 28 - 75 2.8 G2 + Tamron 70-300 for the price of your 16-35 and all three lens will be much leighter. If you really ready to spend $ I would go for Sony 14mm 1.8 gm + Sony 24mm 1.4 gm + new Tamron 35-150 2.0-2.8 + Tamron 150-500 if you like telephoto lens. Sony 35mm 1.8 very good lens as well so it could replace 24mm 1.4 gm. Maybe for portreits I would go for Veltrox 1.8 85 mm very nice and affortable options. I also reccomend to get m42 and m39 adapters for vintage lens, you can have really nice and sometimes unique look from old manual lens for very reasonable price, try Helios 58mm 44-2 for the start.

I started on a Nikon D5500, as I was starting my journey and learning about photography but as I was already very creative and have an artistic mind, it took me only a few months to pick up on everything I have read, heard or watched about photography. I then upgraded to a used 6Dll and went up from there up until I started shooting and handling my camera smoothly and without second thought, like a professional. I then spent a couple of months researching on what I should invest in next, as my talent and ability was held back by a non-pro camera body, so then I chose and bought a used 1DXll with a 50mm 1.8 and a 70-200mm 2.8 which I had up until a year ago when I decided to jump to mirrorless... Then I overwhelmed myself and tried like 7-8 different cameras from different manufacturers and since I don't do video whatsoever, the Nikons Z6ll was just better than everything else on the market at that price point, in every aspect, minus the Eye/Face AF of course... Which is why I am now considering Canon or Sony. One thing I don't like about Sony however, is the fact that their cameras are made almost entirely in China and Taiwan (or Thailand), to be specific, I believe I read somewhere that over 95% of camera parts for Sony are made in China and Taiwan or Thailand.
As someone who shoots WRC and FIA events in extreme weather and temperature conditions, I don't like the fact that I would have to think ''Oh, look, it's pouring rain and thunder outside, I wonder if I can take my camera outside to do my job'' or ''Oh look, it's extremely foggy and there's 88% air humidity, I wonder if it's safe for me to take my camera out'' - I just don't even want to think about that, I want to be able to take my camera out, regardless of weather and temperature and being able to do my job without even remotely thinking about whether or not my camera can handle being out in that type of weather or temperature. I've looked everywhere on the internet and nowhere did I find any Sony photographer, who shot his A1, A9ll or A7RIV in heavy rain, snow, extreme humidity or whatever, without a rain cover, a warmer and whatnot. My Z6ll can handle everything from thunderstorms, heavy snow, extreme heat and cold, I've even shot in 89% humidity and thick fog for 4 hours and nothing happened! The only downside, as I said, was the Eye AF when the races are over and when we start shooting people, the Eye AF on the Z system is not that reliable - it's super fast, faster than Sony but it's not accurate and tends to hunt a lot...
So now I'm thinking either of waiting to see if Nikon releases firmware update for the Z6ll to copy-paste the Eye AF scripts from the Z9 or to switch to R6 or a7IV... Hard decision...

@@nogerboher5266 That’s a pretty interesting use case. If you don’t do video, that is one less thing that you need to factor in - a bonus for you. The A7IV has amazing autofocus (I’m sure you know the R6 is really good too). I can’t speak to the weather resistance at this point, but my concern is actually heat (it can get to 115-120 degrees where I live). That was one of the reasons I went with Sony. But I wasn’t too invested in Canon, so it was an easy move. If I had a lot of glass in another system, not sure I would have done that.
I don’t worry too much about where things are manufactured anymore. In the 80’s and 90’s, that would be something I thought of. Don’t get me wrong, it would be great to have everything made with German engineering and manufacturing. But places like Taiwan are very advanced now (big part of their GDP). The supply chains in today’s market are very complex. To me, the lines of where something is mostly made is pretty blurry. That’s the way I look at it, but your mileage may vary.
Before making a decision, maybe you can rent each one. Or maybe wait and see what people report on using them in weather conditions. But it sounds like you might be more at home with Nikon. Especially for somebody using it for professional purposes. Big decision!

When I bought the Sony A7 IV and compared the quality of photos and videos on my 32-inch 4K professional monitor, I was delighted with the quality of the full-frame camera. I do not need any chips, for me the main thing is the quality of the picture. The FF sensor is 2.34 times larger than the APS-C camera sensor, and that's a lot. Physics cannot be canceled and the picture quality of cameras of about the same generation depends heavily on the size of their matrices in the first place.

There is no definition for the ‘FFL’, so something that’s subjective opinion can hardly be called fact.
Each sensor brand and model, combined with different lenses is going to produce a slightly different ‘look’. If you mean a shallow dof, that’s pretty easy to replicate on other size sensors if you know what you’re doing.
If you were shown 100 images on RUclips I would wager that you couldn’t guess which were FF, APSC or MF, if they were taken in a way to make them look the same.

FF sensor will always offer a Wider view and putting a 14mm lens on a APS-C if thats your widest lens isn't going to be the same width, DOF or light transmission that comes from the wider FF sensor camera with the same focal length with the same F-stop on a 14mm lens (facts) as far as telling the difference, maybe blow Joe on the streets no but yes some experienced professional
s people can tell the difference because there is one. Can you emulate the Look yes, maybe, no, but there's a look. Originally APS-C was considered FF but obviously the Film industry as a whole felt there's a difference as well. Thus a new size FF sensor has because the Norm for a reason. • @sammy_sam_leonardo
      @sammy_sam_leonardo 2 года назад +4

@@town3 yes there’s a difference between the field of view, compression and bokeh if you compare a like for like shot with the same focal length, aperture, distance from subject etc; but how often is that happening in reality beyond a geek test- and would someone be able to identify the sensor used if you were shown the photo on social media, not much more accurately than guessing imho.
So, in my opinion a sensor size can’t have a specific ‘look’ that is really distinguishable- because the ‘look’ the image has will be not only specific to the sensor size but the lens, software in camera and post production and the environment the image was taken - the lens arguably having the most impact.
Plus, as I said FF sensors from different manufacturers will render differently (mainly colour and resolution) and when paired with a different lens they will change character, bokeh and/or compression… so I just don’t see how that can be considered consistent sensor ’look’.
Anyway, it really doesn’t matter much. It’s like the special colours argument all over again. Just shoot what your happy with.

We have a pretty big fuji lens collection so will probably sell most of them (keep only 2-3) and buy a lens for the Sony. Does anyone have any thoughts on what lenses to get for a wide variety of uses? I need to use it for photo and video and preferably something wide maybe 24mm and something with a bit of reach maybe 70-150mm

Hi Dan, great video. It’s uncanny, I’m in the exact same position as you! Love Fuji, but in my opinion the system doesn’t tick all boxes for professional work. I told myself too I will sell all my Fuji gear, can’t see it happening though, unless the Wife forces me to do so🤣

Thanks so much, Lee! Love to hear from people who are in the same boat and hey, Fuji is a bit more compact so much better for family adventures and everyday shooting when you're out and about with your wife. That's the angle you should use when she comes for your Fuji gear 😅

    Great video Dan! +1 Subscriber.
I'm in the same boat right now debating upgrading the xt3 to a7iv. The big reasons are similar to your I love the full frame look, and honestly the autofocus (for video). I do a mix of landscape, action, and adventure photgraphy and I'm finding the autofocusing to bit anoying when it comes to video. I own a bunch of fuji primes and zooms so I'm a bit hesitant to jump until I see what the XH2 has in store. And I agree no matter what people say Full Frame has a look that APSC can sometimes match, but it's still not the same.
Look forward to seeing more of your Sony content!

Hey Saul, thanks so much. Oh yes, the XH2. They could do some great things with that, I'm interested to see when it comes out. I can imagine that especially for action you probably get quite a few misses when it comes to autofocus. I have a feeling Fuji will catch up a bit more when it comes to video and autofocus, especially now that they've started releasing mark II of some lenses that have a different autofocus motor.

I’m thinking the same thing… I don’t shoot tons of action but I even feel like the XT3 just lacks AF tech that the Sony blows it away. I do love the Fuji files and edited in capture one Fuji you don’t get the worm effect like Lightroom.
I only have the 15-55mm 2.8 and 50-140mm 2.8 and they produce great images. With a small rig cage and some warp stable I can archive pretty good footage and easily toss it on my gimbal.
I’m expecting my first child in AUG and want something that has fast lock on AF and I’ve been also itching for a bit more resolution.
If I sold xt3 and both lenses for fair price on KEH or MPB I’d break even with buying the A74 and 24-105mm F4 to get me started. Idk that I’d miss the tele zoom that much off the bat and if I wanted a bit more reach for photo I can shoot in apsc mode. If I wanted or needed longer zooms for a trip or project I’d prob just rent them for a long weekend.
I’m pretty torn. I’m also anxious to see what the XH2 has to offer but would need it to be sub 3k I think for me to even consider plus I don’t really need 8k or even Raw for what I’m doing.

@@jdpst20 from what I’ve been hearing from Dee Rosa on RUclips the new sensor being a *stacked* backside illuminated would mean that the autofocus should theoretically improve as that’s what happened with the new Nikon cameras. Once they add the stacked bsi sensor it apparently helps autofocus but hey who know I’m just a casual shooter and don’t know this stuff well haha

@@saulsigalov True True I hear ya and I'm in the same sorta boat... I don't MAKE $$ off of photo or video "that" much where I NEED the latest and greatest gear but I'm just wondering if It's time to off load the XT3 while prices for used ones are still decent. I mean it is still a great camera the XT3 but maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy some new stuff or switch it up a little. I don't mind the 24mp of the Fuji but idk I feel like just a bit more resolution would be great... and the AF improvement would be well worth the upgrade.

As user of Fujifilm XF and GFX I tried Sony A7IV for about 4 weeks and returned back. The image quality in low light is marginally better then the latest Fujifilm XF sensors. As far as AF concern this one is better for video then Fujifilm. If you don't tweak the Fujifilm settings and when using "wrong" lenses you will end up with known AF problems when recording.Image quality and what you call "Full frame look" ,color and dynamic range is sub pair compared to GFX. In my case it was not worth investment especially knowing that Sony A7IV is entry level camera.

You probably made the right call. Fuji are getting greedy. The price of the XT5 is ridiculous for what it is and I can tell from my XT1 that Fuji cameras aren't as well made as other brands. I no longer have a DSLR but still have Canon lenses. It seems like a no brainer now to only keep the bare minimum of Fuji gear for sentimental reasons because I used it during lockdowns and adapt my Canon lenses to whichever new Canon or Sony mirrorless I choose. I was looking at Nikon too but people have been using Canon lenses on Sony for so long now that I'm more confident of most adapters working well.

Your right on track with what you saying. I too was all Fuji shooter, xt-3, xt30, and most of there lenses, I had came from Canon and loved fuji's system as good as it was and light years ahead of canon my last was the 5dmkiv it had trouble in focus tracking stills were absolutley killer but the tracking left a bad taste in my mouth. I sold it all and waited to see whom was gonna jump ahead, the canon r5 seemed like the right move untill i started hearing about the sony a7iv, i pre ordered it and recieved it in Jan 3rd or close to it. I went with Tamrons lenses the 28-75f2.8 G2, the 150-500, and used sony 70-200f4 and used 85-1.8 and a tamron 20 1.8, No need to tell you about the focus system, and the tracking so much better and flippy screen, and all the other improvements. yeah im a happy camper.... the a7iv just feels good in the hands, the menu system so much better than the previous sony's, I would go as far as to say my zv-1 is what what made me wait to see what the a7iv would do, the zv-1 is incredible for a point and shoot, its focus system is close to the a7iv's. in a bite sized format...

I had a Fujifilm XT4 and the 16mm f1.4, 35mm f1.4, 56mm f1.2, 90mm f2 and the 16-80mm f4. I loved the image quality of that camera but the autofocus and the low light image quality were major decision factors in making me sell everything and buy the new Sony a7iv + 12-24mm f4 G, 85mm f1.8. No regrets at all. Beautiful images (always shoot raw and edit in C1) , focus is crazy fast and it's a beast in low light. My partner already has the A7R IV and the 24mm f1.4 GM , Voigtländer 50mm f2 apo-lanthar, Voigtländer 65mm f2 macro apo-lanthar, 90mm f2.8 Macro G and the Laowa 100mm 2x Macro which HELPED me even more in my decision to switch systems. Sony's good quality lenses are not cheap but there are lots of third party manufacturers which are putting out some really good lenses for the system but with Fuji you have only a couple of other options. All in all, best decision I made and should've started with sony all along and had saved myself lots of ebay selling fees lol. Great video!

The fact is that the A7 IV is the better of all evils. BTW, you could have spared yourself burning a hole in your pocket by going with the Tamron 17-28 f.28 instead. I bought both lenses and sold the Sony 16-35. No discernable difference in image quality and the Tamron is much lighter and smaller.

For hybrid shooters though, the 4k60 crop is kinda annoying. I hate cropping when changing modes, so I don't see a point in buying a full frame camera to shoot aps-c video. It just means I need to invest in 2 sets of lenses to accommodate for the crop.
