    Great Video. This video illustrates why I am a stick shifter for life. I love the muncie, the borg warner, THE FULLER and even the NV4500. Not that fond of the 5600. But these boxes are yards in front of any automatic in terms of reliability, capability and their ability to haul a herd of dead hippies.

    I've got a video on my channel with an issue on a "rebuilt" NV4500. Have you seen many "overdrive" selector sleeves moving too far and making contact with the inside of the tail shaft housing?
    This seems to be an issue I've run into. I easily have a .100" groove in the case nearly all the way around. I've never run the transmission however it was bought as a swap kit that I have "parted out" (project stayed automatic rather than manual), and repurposed for another truck I have. I'm at a loss on where to go as I was hoping for a straight forward transmission swap.
    Thanks! Great video as well.

    Looks like a very fun project. Can you send us a link to those directions you got from that guy and maybe make a list of any special tools needed oh, it looks like you just slide the gears on tap the bearing on till it's all tight and go for it I figured it would have to be a lot of feeler gauges and other special tools. My 97 Chevy C 3500 has synchronizer issues for first and reverse no, not that I really care that much but maybe someday when I'm bored I could do something like this for fun

    Question I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 2WD with 5 speed NV4500. It has a low gear then 1 - 4 speed and reverse. The truck pulls like a crazy horse but will not run over 78 mph and fuel consumption is poor because of the low gear in the transmission. I have changed the rear ended from 4:10 to 3:55 made just a bit of difference. Can I change the low gear to just a first gear?

    • @patrickwayne3701
      @patrickwayne3701 4 года назад

      @@filthyafro4679 third gear grinding is the synchro worn down. It's brass, and will require a full teardown of the mainshaft to get to it. But, if you are savvy about the structure of things and you have "the knack" about working on things,,, you can follow the post via the link to the diesel page forum, and walk right through the procedure, its really basic inside of the 4500.
      Cleanliness is key to success, and among other suppliers, 'Whatever It Takes transmission parts, out of Indianapolis Indiana is a fantastic group to source your parts from. They know their stuff and their prices absolutely KILL other bigger name outfits who charge almost 4 times as much for nothing but lipservice and glitz.
