Charlotte Tilbury is by far the most over hyped brand ever! Other than the CT flawless filter, 2 way over hyped products are the Dior lip oil and blush. I could never pay those price points for such basic products that every brand has. There's tons of lip oils on the market and every brand has a pink bright blush. CP super shock in Ritz is a dupe for UD space cowboy

It's the Rosy flush the Dior blush gives which really doesn't equate with the hot pink color of the actual product! It's what happens on the cheeks, it's truly special! Same for the Coral shade, it's something in that formula!!

My unpopular opinion on the most overhyped makeup brand…. I think Pat McGrath eyeshadows and the mascara are way overpriced and hyped up. I had one pallet and sold it pretty quick after getting it. Shimmers did not work for me and the mattes were not worth the price tag. I think you can get a better formula from ABH or Colourpop. Urban Decay has lots of sales on their products off of their website if you ever wanted to look on there.

    • @MK-Hogan

I agree. They have some beautiful packaging and products but I expected a lot more from the quality, for the price. I bought two lip glosses and a lip balm thing during their sale a few months ago. The glosses are pretty but not spectacular in any way. One of the caps had the nice gold inlaid logo on it but the other one was just stamped with the name, so that was really weird. The balm has a beautiful component but the product is actually a little bit gritty and doesn’t actually moisturize lips at all. It’s just a sheer, thin lipstick. Considering all of them cost almost $30 each at full price, they should be top quality.

I'm not on Instagram or TikTok so i tend to not get bombarded with hype and the creators i watch here, such as yourself, give really balanced reviews and thoughts. For me, i did fall prey to the whole Black Honey hype and i was sorely disappointed. When you were talking about that lip product that disappeared almost instantly it really reminded me of my experience with Black Honey. The color was absolutely beautiful but the formula was awful. I'm not kidding when i say it lasted maybe 5 minutes on my lips. I love Clinique but dang. I returned it. It really was a great color on me but for that price i expect a bit longer wear time than 5 minutes 🙂

I’ve been hearing a lot about Black Honey lately too! The color really does look so beautiful on so many people but that’s disappointing to hear about the longevity! 😭 I feel like the brand should capitalize on that product and come out with a longer lasting lipstick in a similar shade.

I have it and it stays on. I have the Clinique black honey too but find I’m reapplying a lot. I wouldn’t repurchase the Clinique one but I would the cover girl one. Just remember LIGHT HAND lol

Disclaimer, I enjoy all of these products but I have others I enjoy more, or they're overpriced!
    1. Fenty gloss bombs. I have 3 shades of this gloss and it's great but there's something about the smell and taste that I'm not a fan of.
    2. Urban decay all-nighter spray. Good setting spray but there are so many others that do the exact same thing for a fraction of the price.
    3. Pat McGrath eyeshadows. They're great but $174 CAD for a palette is a splurge at the best of times.
    4. High end beauty sponges. I enjoy them but why spend so much money on things that work just as well for cheaper?

  • @Claire_by_the_Seashore

I didn’t really pay attention to the MBM foundation because I knew it was going to be HYPED. Turns out I was right. Recently, because of the drama going on with MD, I caught when MBM did a half a pump with his foundation versus her usual ten pumps. It’s a pretty foundation. She looked nice. But it was nothing earth-shattering or life-changing. It could be created with any nice, luminous foundation or product combination. I do like the Haus foundation. It’s very pretty, feels good, and just does what I like a foundation to do. Life changing? Probably not. If you’re in the market for a new foundation, you might like to try it. But don’t stress about getting it if you aren’t. I like the color of the taupe Merit gloss. It’s very pretty. You are correct though- it’s not long lasting. For me, I feel like Rare Beauty, especially the last few launches, is reliable but not exceptional. I could be wrong though. I’m also like Space Cowboy. It manages to be both a wet looking eyeshadow and an awesome one and done. I will say though, I agree on the price point. If it were closer to MAC singles (without changing the formula) so like $19 or $20, they may sell more. I’m one of those people the Kosas concealer went off on. I love how it looks, but smelling that bad in under the time the brand says it’s good for is just not okay with me. For me, in general, anything that is marketed as “life changing” or “doing something that another product has never succeeded doing before” is over-hyped and will probably be disappointing.

I totally agree with you on Benetint. I thought it was overhyped back then, and it's super overhyped now, considering that more lip tints are on the market these days. That being said, the only way I could get this to work for me was on the lips by applying non-tinted lip balm on top of it once it dried. That helped with the feel of it and kept my lips from looking super dry too. The color of it is nice but not my favorite, so I just stopped buying it.

The balm has recontinued their lip stains - I was a benetint babe in 2003, loved the color but found the tickle of the brush extremely unpleasant (my skin isn't reactive, but my brain is verrrrry sensitive lol). I found the stainiacs and loved them - it's also a watery formula, but in a thicker aloe-like gel, and you apply with a doe foot. One is a dupe of benetint classic, one is coral, and one is straight up orange - infinitely wearable if you want to warm up topper shades. Anyway lol they are $17, ouch! but I bought all 3 - I've been looking for dupes of these for a decade, just spent over $50 unsuccessfully trying to find a formula that good. Free shipping on The Balm's website til March 17, 15% if u join their list. If you love a watery stain that just melts into your lips, this IS it.

Although I do have to talk myself off the ledge everytime I watch a Lisa Eldridge launch. For some reason I can actually get why her stuff is so popular. You're right when you said, it will stain the spot you put it on initially, so you gotta work fast, and one cheek at a time. I wouldn't suggest 3 small dots, I would say one bigger blob. That blends better than the small dots that your skin will soak up faster. 😅

I like the Haus Labs foundation, but I think it’s because I was allowed to try it out for free and it came with instructions on how to use it. I was annoyed because it was very hard for me to find my correct shade because it does oxidize, but I like that it doesn’t really look like makeup, because I don’t want to look like I have makeup on lol. But for that foundation, it is supposed to work better with moisturizer than primer

    💔😭💔 Nooo.....Urban Decay
Lol I gotcha I saw a super pinky color tester for Colorpop at Ulta last time but they had no name on it and nothing else seemed to match. I wanna try to find that one. Had a super golden shimmer and multi color fleck too and the pink just kinda disappears.
The Benetint ...ugh, yeah I LOVE the idea of it, but it just disappears on my skin and esp my lips...it's gone by the time I grab my mirror again to check

I definitely don't see the hype in bennitint it's blochy and streaky and it doesn't look good on the lips either it definitely dried my lips out. I agree about the single shadows to if u want a pretty single shadow Sydney Grace makes great ones and their like 5-8$ each and the Colorpop supershocks 7$ I don't see paying that much for 1 shadow especially the CT singles 34$ crazy. I do love the Kosas concealer though the first one I bought was bad but I got another and it was good and I have sense replaced it. I definitely love the ilia limitless mascara it's a fav and a new fav is the rare beauty.
    * Ok I'm adding to my comment again..lol farmacy is my fav cleansing balm I think that one is worth the hype especially if u don't want to second cleanse it doesn't leave residue gets everything off and a great texture I do prefer the different scented ones though I don't know why they make them limited I hate that .

Yes! Benetint confuses me because sometimes I see people use it and it blends out so nicely but I felt like it just looked so patchy on the skin. I need to try more Sydney Grace shadows! I've really loved the ones I've tried in the past. Thanks for sharing some of the your thoughts on overrated makeup!

Ok Ilia mascara is NOT a go for me at all I love the Tower 28 mascara right now. I have Merit Lip Oil and it’s O.K. Benetint. *Shudder* It was basically colored water. It stained the skin immediately, didn’t blend, just as you said. You’d just have these pink blotches on the cheeks. And on the lips, I can STILL remember the weird, dry, tacky texture it left. It DID emphasize every line. I don’t get it.
Haus Labs foundation wears much like the PMG foundation on me, which was my HG, and it’s cheaper. I do love it but I’m also combo skin. My three HG foundations are the MAC F&B (been using it since before the rebrand and still love it), Haus Labs, and PMG.
Rare Beauty bronzer I totally agree with. Very orange. I was very excited for it and then saw the shades and noped out.
Drunk Elephant is very expensive for what you’re getting IMO. Ditto Farmacy remover.
Most overrated brand: CT. So expensive per gram and works just as well as many of my other, much cheaper products. I don’t get the hype.

The nearest sephora is at least a 30 min drive, so I've been an Ulta gal for a long time, but I'm very tempted by the Haus Labs foundation that so many folks seem to like. I respectfully disagree about the Kosas Revealer concealer, Ilia Limitless mascara and the Farmacy makeup remover. I have tried SO many drugstore products that have failed me consistently. Kosas, Ilia, and Farmacy are high quality products worth the investment! I have dry, aging skin so I need a concealer that’s going to provide moisture under my eyes without looking too dewy. As for the Ilia mascara I love both the Limitless Lash AND their volumizing mascara. Best mascaras on the market hands down! It never flakes or smudges on me, holds my curl, and gives me the false lash effect without hurting my eyes! It’s the gentle clean formula that I love! Too many mascaras sting the crap out of my eyes, but never Ilia! Lastly with the Farmacy makeup remover, I waited so long to try that one. I have used Elf, Bliss, Good Molecules and nothing has worked as effectively as the Farmacy Green Clean. It truly is the best and I don’t feel like it’s overhyped. ❤M
