SCORE! We don't hear you get that excited very often - those stones were worth it. Excellent day if you go home with a prize or two of that quality. Great hunt!
Love your videos! Your passion and love for rocks is refreshing to watch. I live in Omaha, Ne and planning on taking my husband and two teenage sons out that way to camp maybe next weekend or just soon, any chance you could give any tips on what layers to find them, how high up, or what kind of land to look for, anything? We are HUGE rock lovers, and never been up there to try and find fairburns before. We don’t have much for rocks around here lol thank you!
Glad to hear you enjoy my videos! Check out Beyond Agate Adventures on Facebook, it’s run by Ryan Lauzon and he does lots of rock hunting in the Crawford area, as extra info if ya didn’t know . As for up this way, basically, in any of the known hunting areas like French Creek campground (kern beds), Conata basin, weta, railroad buttes, Indian creek and a few other spots, if you’re seeing well rounded gravels with lots of browns, blacks, and lots of quartz.. it’s all good for fairburn hunting! Just look for the kinda stuff in all my videos. 🙃 The layer you’re looking for where they can erode out from is just above the Pierre shale layer which is kinda dark coffee brown. The layer above the Pierre shale in areas like fairburn, Indian creek in the bluffs and railroad buttes, is a whitish, sandy layer with lots of gravels working out and down the hillsides. That’s the ancient river beds and flows that brought all the rocks to the grasslands from the hills. Don’t overlook the flat grounds in these areas as they can be anywhere at any time. Personally, I like the “band” where they erode out of the bluffs with recent weather like rain and such, but it can be steep and somewhat dangerous to hunt in some places and at some times do to awkward footing. Super slick after some rains. There is also the “hills” agate variation which can be fun to hunt and dig for. I have a few videos on them, labeled something to do with teepee canyon. A google search of Teepee canyon (or any of the above listed locations) should yield info on all the spots, and how to find em. The Facebook fairburn groups can be helpful as well. Best luck out there, and thanks for tuning in! 🕵🏻♂️
So do you have to worry about wild animals like grissly or buffalo or whatever attacking out there? Also where abouts is this around fairburn, SD? I am from MN.
@@jamesrich8463 no bears over here. I think a random one wanders through the hills now and then but not out in the grasslands. There are a few places where they have buffalo that you have to watch out for but not all that much. Generally just the snakes is what you wanna watch out for. As for location, I try not to disclose the areas I’m hunting at any given time. I do like Fairburn area though! Best luck out there!
