Greeting from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 My Wife and I watch your channel all the time , big fans , and enjoy your hunts! It must be a big thrill finding a Fairburn. We are planning a trip to South Dakota this summer 2024. Could you suggest a general area to hunt for agates, we don’t want you to give away your prime spots, just point us in the right direction. With the amount of success you have i image you have all kinds of people asking the same thing! Best regards, keep those great videos coming! Greg and Debbie
Howdy and thanks for tuning in! I’m glad to hear y’all enjoy my videos. I’m down in arizona for winter chasin the gold and I’m missing them agates! As for spots to go, I will say I’m a big fan of the Fairburn area around the French Creek Campground. The agate beds behind the camp get hit often, but nice agates still get found there. Biggest tip, do some hiking and follow the rock. There is more out there than people think. Sometimes it just takes an exploration hike to find a new rock patch. I’m also a fan of Indian Creek area, lots and lots of creek to search, as well as up in the bluffs, where the rocks in the creek originally came from. Conata basin can be a beautiful escape and easy flat walking, but you don’t wanna be out there when it’s too hot. Generally, mid summer can be a tough time to hunt for them as temps get up high out on the grasslands and there ain’t much for shade. If you are on Facebook, check out the fairburn agate groups on there. Lots of good info on areas can be found, and there are a few folks who also do guided trips. In any event, best luck to y’all! Keep me posted when you’re running through and I just might be in the area.
While I like the instant gratification of the "as found" videos, I'd have to say the longer hunting videos are better. If I'm watching it's because I'm not out hunting, so I'm here to get a little bit of the thrill of the hunt to satisfy the cravings! LOL! By the way, some beautiful finds on this one. I'd like to say I can make the show in June, but more than likely I may not get up that way until a bit later in the summer. But when I do. I'll drop you a line, it would be great to meet up and say hi!
Pretty much all of the gravel came from the Black Hills originally and was washed away over millions of years in ancient river/flow channels. Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for tuning in! Not doing too bad overall! Lots of miles and lots of effort behind the scenes! Hope all is well down that way. Save some gold for me!
Great vid. I live in S.D. and rock hunt quite a bit. I gotta say, it is inspiring to watch you find that many in one day!! I have hunted Kerns beds, BGNG, Cheyenne River, all over. Fairburns ‘aint easy to find. I can go to Teepee area and always come home with stuff, but finding field Fairburns is always a thrill. I keep trying new spots all the time, like fishing spots, always trying to find the honey hole.
This was a really good day, right after some major rains. I have my bad days too though, there just isn’t any reason to upload them days. Best luck out there to ya, and thanks for tuning in!
Timing, persistence and a pile of places I’ve found over the years! Out of fairness, I left for a year and a half to chase gold so it was all anyones game. 🙃 Timing is key though, and I base it around weather events that move the rocks around. Thanks for tuning in!
Bring a little wide mouthed plastic bottle with just a little amount of water in it. Throw the smaller rocks in it and give it a shake. So... what's the translucent material all over the ground?
I used to bring water for the rocks when I first started but it all adds to more weight on the long hikes, and I ain’t scared to lick a rock! The translucent and white material is quartz. Thanks for tuning in!
Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to watch you?! I found zero things on my last trip to Fairburn! Like lace agate was the closest i found to anything awesome and i was it there for five hours! I moved to the Black Hills 2 years ago and I just have no idea where to go for Fairburns except for Fairburn proper. I really just need to spend more time walking random public land to see if I can get anything good. Thanks for the video.
I have my bad days too! It took me 3 years solid before I really started learning all the spots. Fairburn area can be super good though!
