  • I decided to have a go at making some embankment style hills on the layout.
The plaster cloth that's used in the video is from: www.bakerross.co.uk/modroc-pla...
The amount that I ordered (12 rolls) cost me £14.96 delivered and in total is around 5m2 (53sq ft). By comparison, the Woodland Scenics C1203 is £14.38 (on Amazon) and is only 0.9m2 (10sq ft), so is a huge saving.

Wow. That embankment has been transformed and you made it look so easy too. Thanks for sharing this!

Very helpful, you've made my mind up I'll give it a go. Similar to what you've done but a bit shorter embankment. Many thanks

One thing I found useful is to get some wallpaper glue/paste and coat the packing material e.g. newspaper - not as much as papier mache - whilst layering it. This forms a more 'solid' core in which to anchor trees, etc.. and makes the whole assemblage stiffer. Also the paste makes cheap light purpose glue and fixative for 'grass' when suitably diluted. Cheers.

I actually removed the packing paper from around the back once it had dried... but I can imagine that leaving something in there would make the trees stick in easier. I'll be re doing all of this again soon so will play around with some ideas. Thanks

It's very easy to use. Just be prepared with paper towels and stuff like that. The more you do, the easier it gets.
