Jugg and widows literally make you nearly 9 hit
Where as PhD gives you a situational buff that addressed many complaints at the time.

This comment speaks to me. I put hundreds of hours into this map and knew every little quirky thing about it. Not another Zombies map drew me in and made me put in the effort like Ascension did.

I think the black ops 1 version is a bit more interesting because of PHD
PhD only worked for so long though. In the 50s, its a useless perk, because the splash damage weapons don't kill anymore.
PhD was never my go-to perk. Never understood what the fuss is all about.
@@Pahheb yeah it was a good perk I didn't say otherwise, but a good player wouldn't need a perk to help him not blow himself up or fall to his death. And like the person above me said, PhD can only help you for so long, it's useless on high rounds.
Jack Dren it is used on call of the dead high rounds to try and get a max for your wunderwaffe.

Ascension taught people how to train. This map was so fun before because you could play it with any amount of players and it had the most variety in train spots
Kino taught players to train.
zBreezy Shi No Numa was actually the map that invented training zombies but this map was also very ideal for training 🔥
Pond/Tame 😂 yep shi no Nima was my first round 100.......then I did shadows of evil round 100 and now I never want to do it again.
There are lik 5 total camping spots in that map in general so yeah u right

Ascension is my favorite Zombies Map of all time. The atmosphere is eye candy, the PhD Flopper was very fun to use and getting rid of those fucking Nova Crawlers made me LOVE Ascension.

I remember back in 2011, the same exact day ascension came out was the day Chicago had that horrible blizzard. Me and my friends rushed home from school before it got any worst. We all got on and downloaded the new maps. We were out of school for about 2 days plus the weekend and we did nothing but play the new multiplayer maps and ascension.
Black ops left me nothing but good times and this is definitely one of my favorite zombie maps. So many good memories on here and I'll do anything to go back.
Yeah, but does any bro remember the lander out of map glitch?... THAT was my fav part of the map... so much fun exploring the roof tops

Ascension is my all time favorite map ever. Love the setting, atmosphere, visual presentation, new perks, new bosses, the sickle, my favorite easter egg song in all of zombies, everything is just so.... so perfect.
I really love the feature of the Spetsnaz zombies clumsily doing sidestep maneuvers and barrel rolls, showing that they remember a little bit of their past lives. Sort of like how some of the Nazi zombies would clumsily goose step and how some of the IJA zombies from Shi No Numa would assume clumsy martial arts stances and would sometimes look like they were holding a rifle that wasn't there. I've always found these features fascinating, amusing, and creepy at the same time.
I agree, it’s like each map has it’s own unique take on the zombies. I feel like no one ever talks about it and it’s easily overlooked.
Ah, someone else who is experiencing the Black Ops 1 texture glitches.

@@jake_shakles3243 yeah, I've had it on ascension, moon and Shi no numa. It's so annoying and the only way of fixing it is by reinstalling the whole game and all the map packs

I was in middle school when Black Ops was first getting its DLCs and I can remember how each new map that came out it just totally blew our minds. There were no cutscenes back then, and RUclips was so so much slower. All we had was CoDwiki for the most part. I can still remember when we Ascended for the first time. It was magic.

The magic of hearing the ZoMbSoNg that was based on the BlOps title screen theme. You know, this is back when that style of metal was really popular and we were like 12 so it was pretty cool.
And that easter egg, man, it was like blowing our minds. It was the first time that the "crazy secret big easter egg" thing was actually REAL and not just some joke we made up.
I can still remember the myth of Kino der Toten - that if you managed to open all eight of the red fuseboxes and shoot both radios BEFORE turning the power on that
I remember going home from school just to play ascention when it came out.

Ascension is very well rounded. It's a slight challenge on solo (BO1) but an easy fun time with friends. Great map and love the Russian theme of it.

You mentioned you like the real-life history aspect, if you didn't know the Baikonur Cosmodrome is real, and not only the world's first and largest spaceport, but one of the most historically significant too.
I remember being about 6 or 7 and watching my brother play this map with his friends on his ps3 a couple of times then getting heavily beat up for trying to play while he was afk taking a piss and let me stay in the room then getting mad when I had to watch him play the black ops 1 multiplayer instead of Ascension. Basically nostalgia

When I revived my friend, he still thought he was down and he got all confused because of the black and white colors 😂

I love the feeling when you just shit on George with the Dragunov it made the Snipers useful for something lmao. And getting 8 perks felt earned I agree with you 100%
They were the best. Shangri La is just too small and sucky to be fun and Moon is way too gimmicky.
Ascension still sticks with me to this day because how much it terrified me as a kid, yet it's still my favorite map of all time. I love the challenge, especially with the monkeys, I love the map layout and the atmosphere it provides once you first spawn in.
This map is my favorite map ever. Playing with 3-4 people on this map was really fun. Everyone had a spot to train the zombies. My favorite was in the spawn room. Never played the B03 version. I have probably over a thousand hours on this map

Ah ascension, my favorite black ops 1 map in zombies. It has such a good feeling, brought gersh devices, along with stamin up and phd flopper. It also has 3-4 good training spots. What a map. The only negative thing about this map is the monkeys, which are so overpowered (2 shots with the thunder gun, come on. A little too much.)

Thank you for making this. Literally probably my favorite thing i any video game ever. I loved playing zombies on ascension as a kid and every time I revisit it I get so much nostalgia. So sad nobody plays it anymore.

I can say, Ascension is in my top 5 favourite maps, not only because of how fun it is, Ascension is a unknown map, monkeys from out of space that steal your perks, a rocket you launch so you can enter the pack-a-punch, the amazing song which is in my top 5, also how simple the map is, is amazing.

I'm sad you didn't talk a bit more about how amazing, broken and versatile the Gersh device really was. The idea of a portal that sucks and insta kills all zombies from a massive radius, had the ability to teleport you to a random part of the map and buy time to do revive somebody is a massive thing. Then there's the beautifully performed map song, Abracadavre. It had a range of heavy screams, soft singing, heavy metalcore breakdowns, and implementing the zombies theme ,Damned, into the song. The map had so many things for it and remains as my favorite Zombies map for those reasons.
I started with Bo2 zombies so going back to this map, it seemed a little basic. However I can still see why it's so beloved. Great video, keep it up :)

Hey man just wanted to say thank you for these vids. Currently watching your map analysis series and im being overwhelmed by nostalgia. I honestly gave up after bl2 because of the whole lovecraftian tentacle thing and I miss when zombies was just survive with friends but im really happy to see that still in 2019 people still remember Ascension. It's my all time favorite map and I'll always remember befriending randoms and playing for years after until eventually I stopped talking to them but I still play zombies solo and I will never forget 11 year old me getting microsoft points at the grocery store to play new maps every few months.

An under appreciated map. It annoyed me that people would open that door under the power. The main issue was dealing with the zombies on Solo.
I only play Ascension on solo so that door is always closed for me. Not that it really matters since I camp by PhD.

@@phillipfry9765 With friends is the only way I would play Ascension with someone else otherwise I go to Ascension to play by myself. The more friends I play with means I have to give up my usual camping spot by PhD and take the more difficult training spots so others dont have to and we can survive longer.
Man I'll Probably regret this much easier to open the bottom door (the one in the spawn room) next to Revive. This way youre not dependent on monkeys, and 1 person watches both perks

The zombies storyline in bo1 is pretty cool and interesting the map tells the story and it’s not over complicated. I don’t know if it’s just me but the storyline in bo3 and 4 is just over complicated and is about “saving the universe from ancient creatures that have been around since eternity and you must gather these artifacts that are spread all around the world and blah blah blah” it just isn’t interesting and overcomplicated

It's one of my favorites, if not the favorite map. It's so fun playing in this. Also the perk where if you dive into the ground, it would create an explosion. That perk was kind of cool.

I'd put it at 6. I like a quick set up map that requires maybe a few simple tasks, but occasionally I'll play Origins or Mob because of the unique layouts and wonder weapons. Der eisendrache is annoying at times because whenever I play multi, all my teammates go down multiple times just trying to build the bows lol

Did a lot of "networking" on this map, discussing future business opportunities while we were all huddled around the 'Juggernog' machine was weird but it made me the business woman I am today. As a wise RUclipsr once said:
"Talking shop is a lot more tolerable when you've got something fun to do like killing a shit-ton of zombies!"
I remember hating ascension the first time I played it but it grew on me as I played it more ascension to this day is one of my favorite maps
