    What was not mentioned, was sugar addiction. Some of the comments below are clearly driven by addiction. No amount of damage to your Mitochondrial System, or your gut microbiome, is acceptable. I know a little bit about sugar addiction. I have lowered my A1C from 13.8 to 5.7 by cutting out all sweeteners. It was definitely a path of addiction recovery.

    When I was in college, I wrote a Research Paper on the dangers of Aspartame. One of the issues, besides the breakdown byproducts, was that Aspartame competed from the binding sites for Serotonin which helps to regulate Gastric motility.
    What I found in my research was this:
    Consuming foods or drinks containing Aspartame restricted Serotonin and thereby slowed Gastric Motility. This in turn, allowed food to stay in the stomach and Small Intestines longer, thereby resulting in weight gain. My research did not show the quantity of Aspartame consumed, but rather, dose-over-time effects. The longer someone consumed Diet drinks or foods containing Aspartame, the more likely they were to gain weight.

I don't know if I have reversed the Pre Diabetes yet, but I have fully reversedmy Liver Enzymes and Cholesterol levels back to normal. As a bonus I also lost 50 pounds and I have not felt so good or had more stamina during this time for years. However I then started to eat Dried Fruit for a period of 2 weeks. I couldn't believe how ill it made me feel, nill energy and I really wasn't eating that much. Now I have to start over all over again and try to get through the sugar cravings which have come back. Any halfwit organic chemist knows that in an acidic aqueous solution aspartame will be broken down into very common amino acids called phenylalanine and aspartic acid. There is a trace amount of methanol produced, but less than would be an any typical alcoholic beverage.

    I saw a study that shows that aspartame and sucralose does not raise insulin. The name of the study (2 weeks) is "The effect of the artificial sweeteners on glucose metabolism in healthy adults: a randomized, double-blinded, crossover clinical trial ". They say "There was no change in insulin sensitivity after NNS treatment compared with the baseline values. These findings suggest that daily repeated consumption of pure sucralose or aspartame for 2 weeks had no effect on glucose metabolism among normoglycaemic adults. However, these results need to be tested in studies with longer durations."

      I like to read studies too but it’s important to know who funded this study and how they interpreted the data and many other things. • @americanexpat8792
      @americanexpat8792 9 месяцев назад

      I reviewed that study and it is excellent. Being double-blinded is the gold standard. Aspartame is one of the most studied molecules in human history. If it had the negative properties that some posit, then the evidence would have been overwhelming. Clearly, that is not the case, since the results are mixed at best. I watched somebody with a monitor over a 2 hour period and his insulin didn't fluctuate at all. I just find it hard to believe our bodies, given how complex and adaptable we are, would continue to send out the fire trucks when there is no fire.

    • @davehenderson6125
      @davehenderson6125 Год назад

      Maybe the pancreas isn't prompted to release insulin in the presence of fructose because fructose is processed by the liver instead? Since fructose is dealt with by the liver the body could have an entirely different response to it.

    • @Alex-hd6ek
      @Alex-hd6ek Год назад

      @@davehenderson6125 Lustig has said that just sweet taste on our tongue is enough for insulin release. That's how he blames artificial sweeteners for the insulin spike. I don’t think you can’t compare the 2 things of something artificial being bad to random ppl talking on RUclips saying the truth or not.
      I don’t just watch or believe anyone on YT. Dr Lustig is not just anyone talking on YT. I personally believe or rather, inform myself by listening to reputable ppl with credentials and then research the subject independently myself and form my own opinion. In terms of believing Dr Lustig, yes I do believe him, not only because of who he is and what he has done, but also because diabetes and nutrition and metabolic syndrome is something I’m already quite knowledgeable about (I’m not a doctor tho) so I understand if what he’s saying is true and it is. And I’ve learned more because he added some details to the conversation that I didn’t know yet.
      If we go back to the artificial things conversation. Yes I believe that they are not beneficial for us and interfere with the correct functioning of the body and that is nothing new really and it’s a concept that is easy to understand. I don’t think there’s one artificial food or object or fabric or material or anything that is not damaging to us in some way. Even natural things damage us now bc they’re contaminated by something artificial man made. So like I said we can’t avoid it all, but we can try avoiding simpler things that are easier to avoid. That’s what I wanted to say that’s all. Doctors still advise patients that have diabetes or are obese to use sweeteners even after evidence exists that they’re not the best

    • @jetryan624
      @jetryan624 11 дней назад

      I happen to be old enough to remember when sodium saccharin was pulled off of the entire United States and banned. My grandfather at the time was diabetic on oral medication and he had to get his supply of saccharine from Canada because it was no longer available in in Michigan or anywhere in the United states. And that was way decades before there was an internet where you could order stuff elsewhere. I was stunned as a nurse, when it was allowed to come back on the market and not only allowed to be put into Foods again but to be served in those famous little pink pockets on every restaurant table. They had treated mice with it and caused cancer. And of course everyone says oh well that wasn't a legit those weren't religion that studies because it was way more saccharine than the average human ate! Well at that time maybe because not as many people were diabetic back then. But you can't say that now with all the highly processed foods and all the sweeteners used for whatever thing the food industry wants to make sweet. And they're back in the packets on every restaurant table again. So no saccharin is not good and is not helpful to the American diet or any diet. And neither is the little blue packets called equal or known as by its chemical name aspartame. Some people do not have the genetic makeup where they are able to process and break down phenylalanine that can get very sick if they eat a food with equal or aspartame in it. It's not a joke. Unless it's a specialty organic food organization most or companies now use aspartame as their main sweetener

      From other videos I have seen on this....YES. The mere fact that your mouth/brain senses something sweet, even though there aren't any calories associate with it, it then automatically raises your insulin level.

      I get this take but there is certainly a lot of public contention on this question, which is the entire raison d'etre of Stevia, that it's been studied and does not in fact do this, just based on taste on the tongue, partly because I think they hold it fools the brain and does not trigger in the same way as actual sugar.
      I know there's been recent contention over whether artificial sweeteners really cause cancer, for example.
      It seems a lot is not entirely settled here.

      Stevia became very trendy, like all trendy things there’s a lot of money involved and powerful corporations that don’t want to lose out on a product they invested in. Stevia may be natural but it’s processed food for a start anyway. I would use anything with caution without thinking that is the next miracle thing. Hopefully the truth will come out. I have been chewing xylitol gum for a couple of weeks. My teeth are very clean now. I figure that it's a reasonable trade off to reduce the "bad" bacteria even if it does raise blood sugar a bit. Xylitol keeps the bad bacteria from sticking to the teeth. It's not just about saliva.
      In dogs, xylitol is dangerous because their pancreas responds as if it is sugar and the dogs can get hypoglycemia.

    Not all sweeteners are artificial. Is Stevia the better choice ? What is the impact on mitochodria and insuline resistance ? Better than sugar or worse ?
    STEVIA is plant based, act as a substitute to sugar. Stevia does not contain glucose or fructose. It is a non-nutritive sweetener extracted from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant. Unlike sugar, which is composed of glucose and fructose, stevia's sweetness primarily comes from compounds called steviol glycosides.
    Some studies have investigated the effects of stevia and its components on cellular processes. For example, a study published in the journal "Phytomedicine" in 2013 evaluated the potential toxicity of stevia extract on mitochondria and found that it did not impair mitochondrial function or cause cell death in human cells.
    Any other studies known ? or advice ?
