I started a diet - no fructose. The week before i started, i was feeling light-headed and foggy. Near the end of that week, i was feeling terrible, like i was fighting some terrible affliction. 2 days before i started my diet, i binged on cinnamon rolls. 10 minutes later, i began sweating profusely and had a terrible headache. I only weighed 230lbs, so i thought 'no way this could be something like diabetes, right??' That night, i couldn't sleep, yet i was so tired. Every breath was hard, and just before falling asleep it was like i was suffocating, and i'd shoot back awake. The next day, i was anxious, lightheaded, worried.. i looked up diabetes videos and stumbled upon Lustig's lectures. This all happened 2 weeks ago. The next day, i stopped eating anything that contained fructose. That day was the best i have felt in 5 years. And every subsequent day since has been better. All i did was cut out fructose, and it was like my body yelled at me in joy. It felt like i was recovering from something traumatic. And today i feel fucking incredible. In the 2 weeks since then, i've lost 10lbs, sleep better, poop better, feel better, everything just seems better. The best part, is that because of these lectures, this isn't even a diet to me. I'm avoiding poison. That's how it seems to me. And it's the easiest life changing decision i've made for myself. Thank you for this lecture! UPDATE: 9 months later. I've lost 40lbs. I've suffered with HS, an inflammatory condition, for years. This diet has put my condition into full remission.
@@stevenharrison1213 i still eat fruits. I should clarify: no -added- fructose. Also i eat plenty of veggies nuts and seeds. When i do eat fruit it's primarily bananas. Also since this post ive lost 30 pounds and my HS is in full remission.

It's almost 2 years ago I made a major lifestyle change. I started Intermittent Fasting and gave up sugar and processed food. It took some effort because the system is designed to put us on the wrong path, but it's possible if you stick to it. I used to be obese, pre-diabetic, had high blood pressure, my joints hurt, and I was tired all the time. Today I'm 2 years older, but I feel 20 years younger, all those problems are long gone and I'm normal weight. Today I see sugar and processed foods as poison.
Im doing the same. Lost 40 lbs with another 30 to go. Side-note: went on a job out of town for a month, fell off the wagon and ate some sugary/processed foods and put on 10 lbs in one month. Goes to show: Sugar/processed= weight gain. Back on the wagon.

I followed this advice 20 years ago next month; went from size 16-18 to size 8. I still wear the clothes I bought back in 2002. If I cheat, I put on a couple pounds; now I know what to do to repair that. Real food IS better than processed food. Twenty years ago, low-carb was considered dangerous and unscientific. I did it anyway and wouldn't look back. My physician has no complaints about my lipid profile, my blood pressure is normal, and I walk 2+ miles daily (because I like it). When I tried low-carb back then, I actually found that I did less exercise - kept that to walking my dog, my favorite exercise, and did much better. I had been doing elliptical at a gym to no avail. Go figure!
this video started a snowball effect for me.. submerging myself in videos about sugar and food and health... it changed my life... was at 428 lbs.. down to 301lbs and still going... the problem never was lazyness or over eating... it was all this fake food that they feed us.
Mike, there is a program in Britain that is based on this and the results have been phenomenal. Classic dieting programs even endorsed by health care professionals have been based on bad science (that Dr. Lustig marks out in this presentation.) Most large people overproduce more insulin too which stops hunger hormones and breaks down carbs to fat. Simple carbs are death to people like you and me
Dr Lustig’s lecture on Sugar changed my life five years ago! I am now 52 lbs lighter with a 17% body fat, no meds, high blood pressure gone! Thank you, Dr Lustig, you saved my life!

Thank you for what you said about obesity. I am 66 and just went to the doctor for a checkup for the first time in decades. I spend 6 hours a week at the gym and eat almost no sugar or refined carbs but lots of fiber and greens. All my test numbers were beautiful. The doctor told me I was borderline clinically obese, according to the BMI score, but said I looked fine and there was nothing to worry about. The thing is, she asked NOTHING about my diet and was not particularly interested when I tried to talk about it, nor in how someone can be clinically obese (and in their seventh decade of life) and yet healthy. (In my 20s I was a sugar addict and about 100 lbs overweight, but I turned that around by giving up sugar And I feel much better now than I did in my 20s as a sugar addict.) It seems that the medical profession is all about taking tests and then trying to match up the test numbers with prescriptions, not about telling you how to actually be healthy. I think that most people probably depend on their doctors to tell them what to do, and figure if they doctor doesn't tell them about something, it can't be important. It's great that there are resources like this for people to educate themselves, but I think that the trend will not change until doctors start learning about this.
Tree Walker dr will never learn about it. 1. the money behind all the great Institutions of learning does not Come from Doctors but from businessman. 2. it’s illegal for doctors to in anyway suggest that anything other than medication or surgery will correct any health issues or concerns outside of the one so call condition Called obesity
Once your a sugar addict, you will always be, even when you cut out sugar. It's like being a Alcoholic, If you don't drink, you can live a active life, take 1 drink and It's all gone.🎆
No Doctor was pissed, cos saw a walking meal ticket, but nothing off the Big Pharma top-shelf...(where's my commission?) ...to prescribe, don't bother going.
true but, you are missing an important point. BMI is not suitable for all body types first of all, doctor saw that you don't fit in that category and you look fine, second- clearly very important- your test results were perfect so no reason to look into anything!! maybe the doctor was in a hurry seeing other patients or had a crappy day to listen to you, you never know!!
I watched this video 7 years ago, cut out fructose from my diet….since, I no longer have eczema, headaches, IBS and mood swings. I have more energy, rarely get sick. Literally changed my life
That's so cool! I'm seeing all these inspirational comments about people cutting out fructose and becoming so much healthier... but I can't imagine not eating fruit as well :( guess I'm just making excuses tho.
If you've stumbled across this video you should know that this research is currently changing the way health care professionals are tackling obesity in Europe. This is the future. Watch the whole damn thing, even the science bit.
@@goodtreeministries3751 Judging by the latest research, that's not the case. All sugar and processed carbs (bread, rice, grains, baked goods, cereals, pasta, even potatoes) cause havoc in our bodies, skinny or fat. It's what they do to the bodies internal systems. Japanese people don't eat even quarter the carbs and sugar that Westerners do, and they don't pig out. Recommend you start watching the loads of heart surgeons, doctors, bio chemists/engineers and other experts talking about this issue and the chronic disease these foods cause. Very enlightening. Find the talks on You Tube -- Keto diets.
There are exactly the same testimonials, similar videos, similar quoting of science by the "high carb low fat" camp. As someone who follows neither, I get amused a lot by reading and watching both sides. Both sides have people who have changed their lives, cured diseases like diabetes, autoimmune syndrome etc and provide robust scientific research to back their claims. I on the other hand don't believe that any diet is the holy grail. I believe that we have to experiment and discover for ourselves what works best for us in the environment we live in. All data and science regarding nutrition is statistical and ok on a population level but as an individual, you don't know what part of the statistic your body falls into. So just experiment and discover what works best for you and what you can follow. But don't consider any diet to be the universal solution as everyone is differnet and respind differently yo different foods.
What research and "loads" of experts? The people selling it? lol please Keto is just another in a long list of fad diets with almost no evidence to support that it's any better than all the other silly fad diets that come and go since it has no magical properties to make the weight loss mechanism any better or worse. And of course, it does not prevent or cure cancer.

Absolutely mindblowing. I just recently graduated college with a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science and while we learned about leptin resistance and some of the things you described here, obesity was always described to us as more of a behavioral/calories in vs out issue rather than a biochemical one. I will certainly keep this video in mind as I work with my clients and help them on their fitness/weight loss journey. People with a rapid metabolism burn a lot of calories both in and out of the gym, and they may need to eat a lot to stay in shape; the poor lambs. People with a slow-coach metabolism, on the other hand, burn less calories and hence gain weight if they consume too many. What can be done to break the cycle? Make the weight room your best buddy, since gym gains might help you get back on track. Increasing your muscle mass is the most efficient strategy to speed up your metabolism. Muscles require energy to function, and larger muscles burn more calories than smaller muscles. Not only that, but heavy weight training sessions cause the body to burn more calories afterward, a phenomenon known as the ‘afterburn effect.’ So, rather than gaining weight on low-fat dressing, benching 150 pounds in the gym will soon have you torching calories from the luxury of your couch as your muscles painstakingly heal themselves. P.S: See the solution on my ch-an-nel - A newly discovered bizarre tropical fat-dissolving loophole that has NOTHING to do with dieting or exercise... A lot of people would say “well that’s just normal hormonal changes after a baby” and normally I would agree but I argue that the depo shot took her well beyond the “normal hormone” change. We’ve had four children and she only received the shot with one of the deliveries and that was the one that was abnormal from the others. The other three she refused to take the shot and she had no issues. It took her many years to get over much of the effects but some still linger. I first saw Dr. Lustig's videos about five weeks ago. I banished sucrose from my diet and have so far lost about 9 pounds effortlessly with no calorie counting or measuring. I was not a soda drinker or junk food addict, but I was still probably consuming way more sugar than I realized. I found sugar laced in many of the so-called healthy foods I was eating before, such as cereals, snack bars, flavored non-dairy milks, and breads. I still eat whole grain carbs and fruit, along with vegetables, beans, fish, dairy, and eggs. The first thing I noticed was that I was less hungry throughout the day. I also notice an overall increase in energy and improved mental clarity. I was less tired in general and now I actually want to exercise. Before I had to practically kick myself to gym, and exercising only made me hungry.

It's not tricky. These two hormones are super important to our bodies and our fat levels. When you consume too much fructose found in common refined sugar and many processed foods -- you develop insulin and leptin resistance, and this is where all goes to shit for your body. Your body fat skyrockets and you become a fatso.
Everything I've ate for my whole life contained sugar and fructose. This video really woke me up. Although i am trying to gain weight since I'm bulking, I'll try my best to avoid foods that contain high sugar and only indulge in foods that are low sugar and high fibre since it'll only affect me drastically on my journey to gain weight if i did eat foods that contained huge amounts of sugar such as burgers, pizza etc.

I swear, 24:36 and his discussion of Leptin, Insulin, etc. and appetite, satiety, "sugar rush", activity levels, etc. etc. is the key to the whole thing. The "system" has been pumping so many covert Depop chemicals into the food, drink, and water supply of the Common People for so long that it has had devastating effects on all the metabolic pathways he's talking about, leading to the obesity epidemic we're experiencing right now, along with it's attended long term diseases - diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. etc..
Couldn't be more right! I was fed formula in the 1950s and became a plump baby. Because I was a picky eater and junk wasn't around (and plenty of activity was), I wasn't fat as a kid--but as soon as I hit puberty and food started to look GOOD (that leptin issue Lustig talks about in puberty), I have had a problem ever since. First it was a 10-pound problem; then it became a 40-pound problem. Once your weight goes up your body wants to STAY there. Down at normal weight now, but with 5 miles walking a day I still can't eat over 1000 calories without instant weight gain. PLEASE, parents, stop this before it happens--it's all far worse now when kids are surrounded with junk like an alkie living in a liquor store.

@@pamelavance648 , speaking of profit and co-morbidities, you know what's particularly disheartening for me? Prior to the "pandemic," I was at the gym everyday. My muscle tone was gorgeous, and my BMI was within my optimal healthy range. My diet was low carb and high in healthy fats. Then the "pandemic"... I lost all my work/career (I'm a musician who works in live concert venues). Then my gym closed for lockdowns. I live alone and felt extremely isolated. I began drinking, simply out of having nothing to do... no rewards, seeing my life's work stripped from me, etc. Fast forward to now - I have gained so much weight and feel profoundly defeated. My work has still not returned. In fact, concert promoters who started booking shows for later in '21 are now canceling, due to "delta" surge! So, not only were the obese in the most jeopardy at the start, but people who were not obese have become so, and are added to that demographic. I feel as though only one group of diseased people (those with covid) were prioritized over EVERYONE else. In one year, my entire life has been derailed, and I think it's all a bunch of bs and a sham. But man oh man, there has been A LOT of PROFIT made from this! You said it!

God I wish just once in my life I had come across a doctor with this type of attitude of NOT blaming the patient for being obese. Go home, look at food pyramid, make extra effort to eat "healthy" see no results. Thanks doc. Glad my sore ear gave you an excuse to blame/shame me one more time so I could become further depressed and hopeless.

No 'e' in 'leptin'. Furthermore, leptin is one of several hormones that we understand *a little about at this point in time* that interact with each other or by themselves to bind to cell- or nuclear-receptors in bringing about an effect. Finally, no bona fide molecular biologist would claim that anything more than the slightest sliver of current knowledge reflects the relatively nebulous possibilities that are yet to be discovered in relation to hormones, their interactions, and receptor types. Molecular biology--including the study of metabolic pathways and their contribution to such a simple-minded monolithic concept as 'obesity'--is far from something that resembles a settled question.
If only cells and signalling molecules worked in ways as simple as human narratives about the little devils! Unfortunately, these kinds of issues will possibly never be settled.
+Rawdon Waller If I'm not mistaken, Dr. Lustig's point is that the problem is not obesity, but metabolic syndrome. You might wish to check out Peter Attia's TED lecture, which makes the same point.
Dr peter Attia saved my life. Its not just the sugar, its the grain also....cut those two things out, and eat all the animal fat you want. Hello fren

The people selling it? lol please
Keto is just another in a long list of fad diets with almost no evidence to support that it's any better than all the other silly fad diets that come and go since it has no magical properties to make the weight loss mechanism any better or worse. And of course, it does not prevent or cure cancer.

This is changing. My life and explains so much.
Before I had to practically kick myself to gym, and exercising only made me hungry.
you are so right.
Congratulations 🎈 💕👌😍
Not sugar.... fructose also found in alcohol
Could not agree more. Got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 5 weeks ago and the information and literature I’ve seen since is astounding,, I’m down 12 lbs and recent visit to Doc was all good news. Ways to go on plan but my eyes are wide open now. Modern processed food is poison. And politicians and their lobbyist lackeys ( of all persuasion ) are complicit mass murderers.
Yes we were slowly being poisoned. Biochemical alterations to our metabolism by the "toxic chemical" called sucrose.

Note to self: listen again starting around 24:30 it's about the tricky understanding of leptin and insulin.
Aras B Thanks :-)
It's not tricky. These two hormones are super important to our bodies and our fat levels. When you consume too much fructose found in common refined sugar and many processed foods -- you develop insulin and leptin resistance, and this is where all goes to shit for your body. Your body fat skyrockets and you become a fatso.
Everything I've ate for my whole life contained sugar and fructose. This video really woke me up. Although i am trying to gain weight since I'm bulking, I'll try my best to avoid foods that contain high sugar and only indulge in foods that are low sugar and high fibre since it'll only affect me drastically on my journey to gain weight if i did eat foods that contained huge amounts of sugar such as burgers, pizza etc.
please gain weight by eating more protein... not more fibre. (you should eat lots of fibre but that will not help you gain muscle). highly recommend whey protein powder to supplement an already high protein diet.
Bulking is vanity. Just be concerned about health and longevity.

I swear, 24:36 and his discussion of Leptin, Insulin, etc. and appetite, satiety, "sugar rush", activity levels, etc. etc. is the key to the whole thing. The "system" has been pumping so many covert Depop chemicals into the food, drink, and water supply of the Common People for so long that it has had devastating effects on all the metabolic pathways he's talking about, leading to the obesity epidemic we're experiencing right now, along with it's attended long term diseases - diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. etc..
It's starts with the high fructose formula feed to newborns. Read the ingredients. High in sugar.
Dr Lustig is an amazing man. A true leader for helping the people fight against metabolic syndrome. Watching this in august 2021 during covid 19 and this information is needed more than ever!
Why is sucrose in the injections?
Lustig is saying how bad it is, don’t consume it and yet millions have had it injected into their blood system as well as a synthetic toxic spike protein, PEG and graphene.
Totally insane. No wonder people are dropping like flies.
Eliminating high carb junk and sugar took me from 220 lbs, down to 160 in six months and eliminated my diabetes type 2 and my hypertension. I no longer need bp medication and all my labs are at normal levels.

Thank you Dr. for your perfect explanation and for taking your time to inform the public on the connections between fructose, metabolic syndrom and deseases. Everybody should educate themselves on these subject in order to stay healthy and you are doing a great job into helping us do that!
I was normal weight and had hypertension, sleep apnea, fatty liver, lifelong allergies, got sick a lot, frequent gas, big mood swings, etc. I had a hemorrhagic stroke that put me in intensive care for a week and was told to basically get on medication for life. instead, I educated myself through Lustig, Fung, Noakes, Berg, Nadir Ali, Low Carb Down Under, etc. and now I eat very little sugar or carbs, no vegetable oil, and intermittent fast daily (and am on day 2 or a 5 day fast). I suffer none of the above anymore and have not been sick in any way in three years now. The food industry is happy to kill us slowly.

I am enrolled in two medical studies as to why my health is excellent including my bone density scans. I have had the flu once in my entire life and a common cold two times in my adult life. Excluding fruit from one's life is absurd. I have six siblings, all younger than I all of who are on meds for high blood pressure and borderline diabetes. Great video and very solid explanation of the biochemistry. However, I think the role of glucose is downplayed by Dr Lustig. I think it truly prophetic that the word “pandemic” was used in reference to obesity and diabetes. The people (86% of them) with co-morbidities are the ones who have died from COVID these last 18 months. 🥺
Pandemic and profit
I'm from germany, so my english isn't the best. I try hard to understand everything from this video. does i get this right? too much sugar consume blocks the leptine from getting to the hypothalamus. so we feel hungry all the time and didn't feel full after eating. in addition to that, we don't have the desire to burn the eaten calories and get obese?
Your English is quite impressive.
