    Greetings. I do agree with you about that "functional or kinetic" BC of any projectile dwindles with distance traveled, but the "intrinsic or static" BC will remain unaffected. It is the fate of all projectiles fired via air or by other means. I admire the way you present your videos, making it easier to understand airgunning, which follows its own quirky laws. I am by no means an expert as you are, just a newbie and keen enthusiast of the sport. Thank you for your hard work.

    Varmint knockers for the win! I don’t like to shoot pellets though them seem cheaper then slugs still but the slugs are coming around. Thanks for the charts and visuals we could pause and read it all. Thanks for the good informational video! Keep them coming.

    Good presentation Daniel. I would love to see you do a segment on finding/adjusting to true B.C. of a projectile. Not all are as advertised and admittedly that is not an issue for the average shooter but does make a huge difference for air gun users at long distance. I have seen some episodes of Matt Dubber's where he references this subject but I dont know for sure if he did one specifically about BC. I am enjoying this series so far, thank you for your huge efforts toward getting it to us.

    • @dangolwinner
      @dangolwinner  3 года назад

      @Bret Lawson- Thanks Bret! The adjusting process to get the correct data for using a ballistic calculator accurately is easiest if you zero at 50 then go straight to 100 yards and make your corrections to get your 100 yards on par with what the calculator is calling for, then work your way back to 50 yards to confirm. I have had pretty good success using this method and this is the current method I used to true up the data for my Sig kilo 3000 binoculars. Even then, for a shot at 250 yards the temperature, wind, and incline play a huge factor and will absolutely have an impact on your shot compared to what the ballistic calculator calls for! It will keep you on your toes when trying for a one shot hit at very long distances! It feels very rewarding when you can make it happen though! Thanks for commenting bud!

    I'm sticking with pellets because I don't shoot past 100 yards very often, & backstop is a major concern for me when I'm shooting so I don't want a projectile that will carry for hundreds of yards! Peace!

      @dangolwinner  3 года назад +1

      @GotDave?- Thanks bud, theres a lot to talk about when it comes to pellets and slugs! I’m trying to stay on point! Pellets are cheaper and easy to tune for and hard to beat out to 80 yards!

      @@dangolwinner I agree! ...& I think you're doing a really good job of keeping your info organized with the 4 separate vids!
      The best advice I've gotten concerning BC's & long range shooting is: use the standard bc out to 100 yards, then use a lower bc (you've gotta figure out what the exact number is for you) for 100 to like 175 yards, then use a 3rd (even lower) bc for 175 to 250 ...that way it stays true, because as the projectile slows down, the BC changes!

    Thanks Daniel for this solid information. I have a .30 Cal Maverick 700mm with the Heavy Barrel for slugs. I understand with the .30 Cal that I already have the heaviest hammer weight. The maximum muzzle velocity I can achieve is 935fps with Hybrids. This is with 150bar on the first reg and 120bar on the second reg. I have played with and documented regulator settings from 100bar to 150bar while varying the hammer spring tension, and all other settings have not performed as well/fast. I have a dual transfer port from Ernest Rowe, and I also have Ernest's carbon fiber barrel sleeve that I glued to the superior heavy barrel. I've also timed the barrel (which made a huge difference on windage impacts between pellets and slugs, and also made a huge difference on windage changes at longer distances). The adjustable screw in the hammer adjuster on my rifle is extended out 6.71mm (this is longer than Ernest recommends (6mm), but the gun still cocks properly although it does jump quite a bit when it's fired). I was wondering... the next time you take your power wheel off of your Wildcat, could you measure the distance your adjuster screw protrudes from the body of the adjuster? This would possibly be very enlightening for me. I know you're not .30 Cal, but I know you're shooting some heavy projectiles. Also, what is your reg setting? I'm thinking I may be just way out on the extreme edge of a tune. Your numbers would really help. I am, however, much more hopeful with this gun. It's now shooting the Hybrids very well, likes the NSA 43.8, is OK with the 50gr VK's, but it loves hammering the JSB 44.75's into one hole. Thanks again for all you do!

    • @dangolwinner

      @John Stewart- I will measure it tomorrow and let you know what mine is set at 👍🏻

    • @dangolwinner
      @dangolwinner  3 года назад

      @John Stewart- Another part to consider if you are looking for max speed is the slug power kit. Also have you checked your pellet probe alignment with your transfer port? If the hole in the pellet probe is not lined up with the transfer port it will cut the power quite a bit

    • @johnstewart6628
      @johnstewart6628 3 года назад

      @@dangolwinner When I checked into the slug power kit I was told that the spring and the hammer weight in the .30 cal are already maxed and that you will not get a benefit in buying the slug power kit if you already have a .30 cal. Plus, no slug probe for the .30 cal yet either. Do you have other info on this? I had a lot of problems with my new Maverick. One of the problems was that the screws on the cocking lever that tighten to the rod were loose. Of course I didn't realize this until the gun failed to cock and bent the heck out of and scarred up the rod. After I finished cleaning up and straightening the rod I found that the hole in the probe and stock transfer port would not perfectly align and still allow the rifle to cock (would not cock on HS setting 1). I marked the probe and took it all apart multiple times and it was off about .030". I ended up getting the dual hole transfer port and modifying the stock pellet probe so everything aligns. The gun is actually consistently shooting the Hybrids pretty well now at about 1 MOA at 50yrds (.5" CTC) at 935fps. I'm pretty happy with that, but I can't figure out how everyone else is shooting a lot faster, and I'm thinking I might be stressing the gun too much although it sounds pretty good. You've been tuning for some great results, so I thought you might be able to point me in the right direction. Truth is, I'm not a big fan of the Maverick so far, but if it keeps shooting like it's been lately, I might change my mind...

    This is good $hit bro! Exactly what guys like me are looking for! MUCH appreciated! Now what slugs to start with for my Maverick sniper. Problem is I'm looking for Lower powers because I'm shooting iguanas in urban areas and am very concerned about pass through! Or over powering and blowing out someone's window 200 yards away! Thoughts? Or I'm thinking I should stick with 18.1 (.22) pellets because I'm not taking 100 yard shots, I'm more like 40 to 60 yards. Much appreciated my man.

    • @dangolwinner
      @dangolwinner  3 года назад +3

      @Scott Michael- I would recommend the 23gr Patriot Javelins or the 22gr XLHP Varmint Knocker. The reason I recommend those 2 is they both expand at very low speeds, down to 720fps. If you tune them for 800fps or slightly lower you will get excellent expansion at the distances your using them at. They will also dump all the energy on target and if they do pass through they won’t travel far at all! They will definitely perform better as far as energy transfer compared to the 18gr JSB. the JSB Hades and Polymags will also transfer energy really well and they also perform great at lower velocities. Either way you can’t go wrong! Hope that helps man, and thanks for commenting!

      @crony155- Slugs can definitely lead to a love hate relationship 😂 when working on a tune you can burn up slugs and air pretty quickly! The JSB MK2 is a great pellet and has one of the best BCs for a pellet. Only downside is it doesn’t expand like a slug will. But for some that’s not an issue, they tend to shoot well out of most rifles at high speed or low speed! Thanks for leaving a comment 🙏🏻

  • @terminadorairgunsandoutdoors

    Does having a large hollow point on the tip of a slug affect it’s bc. I know that the terminal ballistics are superior due to expansion, but is seems like having an air cup on the front would be detrimental. After verifying greater expansion in water testing, I’ve been filling the hollow tips of my hunting slugs with gasket maker, and the terminal effects on quarry is more damaging. (Seems to dump more energy... exploding pests). I’m wondering if it also may be better for long distance shooting since hollow point pellets are typically shorter range ammo. I guess I need to set up some tests to find out. Let me know if you have any knowledge on it. Thanks!

    • @dangolwinner
      @dangolwinner  3 года назад

      @Idaho Airguns and Outdoors- That’s a great question! One that I will elaborate on in the next video. A short answer is that there is a deference in potential accuracy when dealing with a streamline projectile that has a very high BC, and one not as sleek, like a hollow point. Adding a hollow point to a slug increases accuracy and consistency due to slugs not coming out of the barrel perfectly stabilized. The sharp point of a streamlined slug can cause the slug to veer off its true course. So it is beneficial to have a hollow point, but to what extent is another question that would require testing!
      Filling the hollow cavity with the right consistency of material can create a hydraulic effect and cause the slug to expand more rapidly, so you probably are getting faster expansion from what your doing! I’ll talk some more about this in the next video! Thanks for commenting!!
