    In this video I use my Air Venturi Avenger 22cal to show POI changes and how to fix it, same pellet and same muzzle velocity on target! Haven't noticed it so much in 25cal....

    Absolutely correct .....i never experienced "dramatic" poi shift on my .25 but did notice if i only fill it to 36/3700 psi (reg set at 2300) thats where my shots are more accurate, down to about 2100 before noticing some fall off. Shot count is not an issue for me because im never far from a fill source. Thank you so much for these videos ....... youre helping many people ....stay safe and happy shootin !

    I must have won the regulator lottery. I shot a 115 shot string yesterday and manage a 1.2" group at 38 yards. 5 shot groups are under 1/2" with plain jane crossman brown box 10.5s. Velocity trended downward from 901 to about 880 and SD of 8 on the FX chrono, with the bottom end being less stable after I dropped below reg pressure. By 120 shots it had dropped to below 850 fps and I stopped. I would estimate that 95+ of the pellets strikes(shooting freshly painted steel) could be covered by a quarter. And most of those grouped tightly in the center. I'm still amazed at the performance of this budget gun compared to my .25 marauder and .22 flash pup. Both of them shoot extremely tight groups, but you get 30 or so good shots with the .22 and 20 with the .25; 110+ shots between fills is in a different universe. I will be able to take this thing to the deer woods with me this year and wreak havoc on armadillos and squirrels for the entire weekend between the white tails.
    My tune is 1600 reg(according to the stock gauges that I don't trust) and about 3/8 of a turn in on the hammer spring. I'm not settled completely on this, as I have the gun filled waiting for testing tomorrow at 1/4 turn out; as velocity was still descending slightly

    I’ve had the Avenger in .22 for about a month now and was dealing with this issue. I was max filling and after every fill my POI was off by alot. Very annoying.
    I asked around other forms and after hearing the same thing you’re talking about, i lowered the regulator pressure and have been filling to about 3600-3800 now, and additionally added a black arts band kit in addition to the donny fl barrel adapter.
    My POI shifts are gone now. It sucks that you cant use the gun for what its rated at in regards to max fill, but i’ll gladly sacrifice shot count for consistent accuracy.
    It was a headache when I first got the gun and if I knew what I do now, I probably woulda went with dreamline.
    Great vid though.

    I keep my 177cal Avenger set around 1,100 reg pressure. I have a slow descent in fps from 4350psi to the 1,100psi. Overall the SD remains within 10fps. I use this tune for hunting in woods from 10 yards to around 40 yards. The shot count is around 150. This is also a great tune for 25 yard target shooting.
    The reason the shot string descends is because the factory hammer spring is too strong for my reg setting, even at its lowest. However if I raise the HST it will effect my first shot using 10.5gr crossman ultra mags. This is no problem target shooting. But hunting is another matter. I can't set up my rifle for 900fps because the reg will creep a little and then I may shoot 20fps faster after letting my rifle set 15min. This makes my 10.5gr unstable and I may miss the squirrel. This 20fps faster first shot won't matter at all if I tune for 850fps. So that's what I do.
    If I desire more power. I use 13.43 to 16.2gr pellets. Then I can turn up HTS with no issues. But those 10.5gr crossman ultra mags are only $11.49 per tin of 500. They are cheap and accurate. Pyramid Air gives the 4th tin free when I buy 3.
    Sorry for the long post. But I hope it helps people.

    James, I think those .22 pellets are hydroplaning..or not. I found it pretty cool that you touched upon the fill pressure of 2x's the reg. I found this out on my little .177 Stormrider. I set the reg at around 90 bar and noticed a BIG Poi at 45 yards. When the fill dropped down to 160-170 ish, poi was where I started with my sight-in. So now I only fill to a max of 2650 and.....wait for it........Dead Squirrel. Great Info, Thanks

    If the POI shift is as you say due to regulator pressure versus fill pressure; why would there be other than vertical dispersement?

    James, my Avenger .25 froze up will shooting this winter. I tried refilling the tank and air came out all over. After sitting over night I was able to fill it but noticed I had to do it really slowly to avoid air escaping. Since this happened my POI is all over the board. This gun was a tack driver using the factory tune and H&N Barracuda Hunter Extreme pellets before this happened.
    Any thoughts?

    James, I wonder if this could be true with high volume air bottles like the RAW or FX Avenger? Seems like this may be true with those as well. I have been struggling with why my RAW might shoot higher or lower on certain days. It’s worth keeping tract of the humidity.

    Since the Avenger also has a hammer spring adjuster, could one mark a setting for full fill pressure, and one for lower tube pressure as the gun is shot down. Or is there a gradual climb of POI as the tube pressure decreases ?

    I've experienced POI shift with my Avenger in two different ways one is temperature if I start shooting my gun at early morning where it's like 45° out and I keep shooting the gun throughout the day until it gets to be 90 ° out there will be a POI shift usually I've just guessing it's usually always to the right and I will turn it a few clicks to the left and the POI shift will come back to where it was and then towards the evening when the day starts cooling off the POI shift will shift back to the left and be off Target and I've experienced what you were just talking about there with the different fill pressures.

      @gumbystown 2 года назад

      @@spartanslugs8765 No I haven't really came to a conclusion of why it does that.
      I've talked to quite a few different friends that have Avengers and I don't know no some people say it's because the actual air tubes expand when they're under full pressure which makes the barrel bands shift a little bit and change your point of aim then some people talk about the temperature making the metal expand and making your point of Aim shifting and and some people talk about the different temperatures and pressures affect the functioning properties of the regulator?

    I had been having some big poi shifting between fills (about 5 mildots horizontal and 4 mildots vertical), what can possibly be? Also, do you recomend adding a second barrel band and donnyfl barrel centerer/ silencer adapter?

    • @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS
      @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS  2 года назад

      Check barrel shroud gap between air cylinder...if it's evenly spaced then I wouldn't worry about adding another band but if the barrel shroud is touching the cylinder or not even get another barrel band...another trick to try take 5x shots to reset reg and see if it helps, I have very minimal vertical poi shifting now...check pt2

    Hey james can you do some tests on the penetrator rounds I make for the 25 cal..I have a video on how to make these on my RUclips channel...thanks for the poi info it makes sence.. at the factory regulator setting of 2900 psi double that and you get 5800 psi well above the fill pressure of 4300 psi..a 1500 psi difference...so at 4300 psi fill minus 1500 psi equals 2800 psi ....so if your regulator is set at 2200 psi double that you have 4400 psi minus 1500 psi will bring your total fill psi to 2900 psi...just a theory.....so if your regulator is set to 2150 psi double that and you get 4300 psi then minus 1500 psi you will get a fill pressure of 2800 psi
