I saw Rick at Shooter 1721 shoot a 22 caliber FX impact and it penetrated 3/4 in of wood at 400 yds. I'm going to purchase a FX impact Mark 3 with a 600 mm Barrel,slug power kit and FTX Barrel. The question I have is will this 30 cal be as accurate and also be able to penetrate 3/4 inches of wood at 400 yd or is the slug going to be too heavy and lose too much energy at that distance?

Wrong or right i’m purchasing an FX Impact mark three 600 mm barrel, harmonic balancer with slug power kit and STX barrel for slugs. In terms of accuracy at long distances like 200 yards or 300 plus yards do you think that I should have purchased a 25 caliber or the 30 caliber? I also want the most energy possible at the target, (I like to do penetration tests) but Short distances yes, but I’m not sure if at long distances if the 30 caliber is going to have more energy or lesser energy than a 25 caliber?

You do understand the meaning of "low velocity" right? Low velocity air guns literally everywhere shoot under 500fps

Sure, I'll share my experience, but I think you pretty much already said what I would, so... If we for a moment ignore the fact that different rifles prefer different projectiles, even rifles of same brand and model, it seems to me that generally you get the best accuracy with slugs out of a rifle running on the hot end. Back in the days I never understood what all the hype was about regarding JSB Exacts, to me it seemed like everyone in England shot these pellets, and didn't really bother with anything else. However, I'm Danish and we don't have the 12ft/lbs restriction here, so by far most of our guns are what would be considered FAC in England. I've tried the Exacts, and I can't hit the broad side of a barn with them, at 10 paces, they are _not_ for me, but I reckon it makes sense that out of a rifle that has a lower muzzle velocity, the 8.44 grain pellets in .177 might actually work really well. If what we see English airgunns do with them is anything to judge by, it certainly seems like it. Now, before our absolutly retarded regime over here decided to illegalize airguns with a caliber over .177, unless you have a permit and register your weapon, I bought a HW100T in .22. But, after the politicians had done their dirty work much to the detriment of everyone, and for no apparent reason, I recalibered my Weihrauch to .177, but didn't bother to mess about with the muzzle velocity. So, techically it still thinks it's .22, yet it fires a .177, and that taught me that at _that_ velocity most pellets are simply too light, so now it eats 16 grain H&N slugs. My other PCP is an AGT Vulcan 2 Tactic, and it really likes H&N Baracuda Match which weigh in at 10.65 grains. Accuracy-wise I get the same results with both guns running at about 285m/s or 935ft/s despite the difference in ammo weight, so it appears that slugs need a boatload of energy behind them compared to pellets, which incidentally would also explain why slugs apparently aren't commonly used in England. At least to my knowledge. As for what I shoot with these guns, primarily paper, the improvised range I have acess to allows me to shoot at 31m or a little over 100 feet, but there's also a rat problem in the area, and I'm one of the two guys who does something about it. As for pesting or hunting with airguns, I think velocity and impact energy is almost irrelevant, provided of course that you can hit and penetrate, so far I am yet to see anything get back up after having its brain ventilated by something as tiny as a .177 pellet, though I'll agree that if you go for body shots a certain level of energy transference is necessary. But in any case, accuracy must always come first, missing something _like a ton of bricks_ doesn't do a whole lot.

It all breaks down to this: Serious men shoot slugs for making real damage on any animal ect... And other men shoot slow pellets at small animals like birds and at paper to try and impress other men🌈🤣😂💥👍

This is the only channel I’ve seen using slugs for the Dreamline Compact. I tried the hybrids in my 25 cal compact figuring they would work well for an FX rifle at the slower speeds. The groupings sucked. I’ve been afraid to try any other slug brands in it. Maybe I’ll give these javelins a try 👍

As a brain fart, I'm wondering if I should just get the high flow port, pin probe & maybee the weaker valve return spring and keep my superior barrel rather than switching to the heavy liner.. that's incredible shooting at that range.

Valve adjuster won't do a thing with the high flow port etc. Just wind it in. One less thing to worry about.

Great channel. You have a great way of explaining things clear and simple. What's your opinion? I decided to go with the 25 caliber air rifle 1100 FPS I think around 80 FPE. I'm going to most likely change the barrel to a barrel that is set up for Slugs. In terms accuracy and energy/penetrating power is there a not a happy medium in terms of caliber and slug choice? This is an accuracy lethality question. Have you concluded what your favorite caliber is overall in terms of accuracy and long distance penetrating/energy FPE at 100 yd to 200 yd plus? If for example you are shooting long distances say 200 yards plus at 3/4 inches of pine wood which is considered the standard, perhaps a 25 caliber slug will be more accurate and consistent at these distances as compared to a 30 and 35 caliber slug because of the higher weight of the larger slugs causung a higher drop off angle and more of a loss of enegy as compared to a 25 caliber slug?

Thanks for the videos they will save me a lot of time. I watched some guy shoot a hog through the forehead/ skull using a jsb pellet not a slug. Since slugs have more energy would it not have been better to shoot the hog through the skull using a 25 caliber slug as compared to a pellet? Also when you're shooting something through the skull wouldn't you want more penetration in combination with expansion by using a harder slug as compared to shooting a gopher through the body using a slug because the Gopher is much softer?

Since you're getting so much energy/ FPE 200 yd with slugs why would someone buy a 25 caliber?

I’m not sure if you’ve done this test it before. This is quite complicated stuff. I would’ve thought that if you’re shooting a larger animal like a coyote or a hog that you would want expansion right away but according to what you said you would like more penetration and less expansion? I have a 25 caliber rifle, 1100 FPS. I’m trying to find the right slug that will produce the most penetration and expansion at 100 yards and 200 yards and a high FPE. Thanks for the video.

Are you using a first focal plane or second focal plane scope for Marksmanship and long distance shooting?

From what I understand there is a way of calculating the FPE at the target. The other way of doing it is to put a chronograph near the subject at say 200 yards but you’re putting your chronograph at risk. How did you calculate the FPE at 200 yards being 61 foot pounds of energy?

North Central Espanola NM is my stomping grounds but I haven't yet gone for small game with my Senica EC carbine .25. I installed a budget thermal that leaves me no room for adjustment unless I shim the rail some more. It's unregulated but the power wheel is what will allow me to tune slugs in the future. I need to make a depinger and get it ready for wild boar this November.

The consensus now is that slugs are more accurate past 75 yards especially if there’s a breeze and the slugs, hold more energy when hitting a target. Many of the FX gun pros are exclusively, shooting slugs now. I can’t seem to find any kind of test showing exactly how much energy a slug will produce compared to a pellet at 50 yards or 75 yards. Is it 25% more energy is it 50% more energy?

This is the best video I’ve seen on this subject by far, clear and concise, I subscribed. I just purchased the Kevan Airboss K-1, 25 cal. I have a few questions. When you said that you tuned your gun for slugs, does that mean that you can only shoot slugs with that tune and not pellets like the JSB Hades? What’s involved with tuning your air rifle for slugs? Is it just about having an adequate amount of FPS to project the slug or is something else also involved? Michael

Please correct me if I am wrong. This is a summation. I own the KERVAN Airboss K-1, 25 caliber. Barrel length is 58 cm. Muzzle velocity. Max. 1100 FPS. 335m/s. I’m using the JSB exact King Heavy Diablo and JSB slug knockout. - If i am target shooting/marksmanship from 50 to 100 yards then standard pellets should be fine? - If I am going for long range target shooting/marksmanship, then I should be using slugs? For example, anything over a 100 yard distance you are going to get less of a trajectory curve fall off, thus in turn more accuracy at long distances? - If you’re hunting small game at say 50 yards to 75 yards you should use pellets? - If you are hunting larger game at say 50 to 100 yards, then use slugs because the impact of the slug will be greater than a pellet with more expansion?

Imo fx has the best workmanship and attention to detail in terms of design and built quality. However guns half its price or even 2/3 the price shoots just as well. Hearing about these issues on a top tier gun makes me think twice

I have the Mk3 BT .25 compact with the 89cc plenum and 500mm barrel. I removed the hammer spring adjuster and maxed it to 6mm like Ernest Rowe shows in his tunning video. I set the reg to 150bar. It's shooting the Hybrids at 960fps and the 29 gr. NSA slugs at 950. Both are getting consistent sub moa at 100yrds. I found the Jsb 34grn Varmint knockers redesign to be the most accurate slug so far at 925fps. I don't have a 700mm barrel for it yet but hopefully in the near future. I'm really curious how that will work out. Maybe the larger 89cc plenum is the difference? Idk. As far as your velocity issue goes, that is really baffling.

Thanks. In terms of slugs, have you tried shooting slugs with new gun that has not gone through the barrel polishing process and then shooting the same gun with slugs that has been polished? Once the barrel of a gun is polished, it becomes more accepting of different kinds of pellets, and slugs. As a general rule, slugs seem to work a lot better with polished barrels. Maybe you should try doing a show about this?

Where is your first reg pressure set at on this one I am wanting to buy a slug barrel tention kit for my Impact M3 but don't know which cal. A 22 or 25 have both in pellet barrels which do you prefer for shooting prairie dogs in excess of 100 yes my .22 shooting 25gr fx pellets seem to have a slight edge in accuracy out to 100yds but don't have the brute knockdown power of the .25 shooting USB 33.95s shooting groundhogs at my place headshots with the .25 is always dead on impact but the .22 not always like the .25 but like I said the accuracy is a hair better in .22 but that's just shooting pellets anything you could coach me on as far as the slug barrels would be appreciated I noticed you seem to like the .25 better and don't look like you have any problems putting the smaller prairie dogs down also want to squirrel hunt with slugs too thank you and keep up the good videos and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us

Oh, 700+ fps is still considered as low speed with airgun! I did not know that. In Sweden the strongest license free air gun is about 460fps with 15,4 grain pellet. The result with that speed would be interesting to see.
