    Had one since launch date. Stunning lens. If you want to compare it to the 18-55 then think about it. Using this new lens between the focal lengths of 18-55 it is far sharper at 18 and 55 and if there is a slight softening as you go the extremities wide open (Which is the same for every zoom lens) you still have a much better lens than the 18-55 as you can use the 16- 80 focal length and just stop down to 5.6 and it is great. Regarding the comments about soft corners. If people are looking at the corners of your picture then you haven’t taken a good picture so concentrate on your photography and don’t pixel-peep. The colour rendition of this lens is better than the 18-55 which I have always found lack lustre. Six stops O.I.S really works so you can shoot safely shoot below 30th sec and keep your iso down. Compared to the 18-135 it is better in resolution. It is glued to my X-T3 except when I occasionally use my 10-24 or 55-200.
    Happy man with this trio.

      Gary Manning What do you think of the 55-200? I’ve been debating whether to get that one or not.

    • @quikee9195
      @quikee9195 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, 16-80 softness was overblown as people expected it to be closer to 16-55 to sharpness. The only problem for me is the price, which is too high currently. It is high even in the second-hand market as the lens is still very new so I'm waiting for the price drop or I'll get one with X-T4 if I get a good price.

    • @garymanning4578

      808Island Life I have used both the 55-200 and two copies of the 50-140 and when compared side by side in Lightroom there is little difference in sharpness. The focal range of the cheaper lens is valuable but the f2.8 of the heavier lens is important if you want the bokeh and low light capability. If wedding photography is important to you then buy the 50-140 it is a fabulous lens. If you are like me a general photographer then the 55-200mm is a great option.

      808Island Life I used to run a second hand camera store selling Nikon and Fuji equipment so go to test many samples of both lenses and bodies.
      Have not handled the 80mm macro and the 90mm which I want to or the 18mm which I have no interest in as I personally find 18mm boring. After 60 years of taking photographs I have my own style. Just an aside the 18-55 is brilliant but can vary from different samples. 18-135 mm. I have tried 3 samples and only one was brilliant. The other two lacklustre. Still a great travel lens though. I often buy at a bargain price a lens I want to take on holiday or for a wedding and then sell it on (sometime for a profit) or a small loss (cheaper than hiring). Keeps my interests alive in new kit.

    Thank you, Omar! This is exactly what I was looking for. Most channels focus only on image quality and it is kind of hard to find these comparisons. I like the way that you see the whole picture. When I'm looking for a specific kind of angle, I often find it on your channel.

    Just back from Costa Rica, i bring this one and the 18-55 . i used the 18-55 once and bam 16-80 came back and stay for the whole trip glued on my X-T3. For landscape the 18-55 didnt covince me but i am having fun shooting with in the city. When you know what is about this kind of mid range zoom this one is a keeper. If i want more sharpness ,primes that is . I sold my 16-55 to buy the 23f2 and 50f2 ,happy with that.

    I switched from a canon eos r with a 24-105 f4L to being an all prime Fuji shooter. Fell in love with the xf 35 f1.4 but for travel after a couple of years I just found that sometimes you need the versatility and can’t zoom with your feet. I went back and looked at my canon photos and was amazed how many were at 24mm (or 16mm in apsc land). I’m really looking forward to getting back the versatility.

    I've had this for a few months, mostly winter months. It's too big to be my normal street photo lens but it is amazing for travel where being touristy isn't an issue. In a pinch, if you can't or don't want to get close to your subjects, the zoom is nice and f4 is not an issue since I am stopping down to get the scene anyway. It's easily passable as a hiking / landscape lens, having sharpness in the corners in the middle and, depending on your shot, not too bad at 16mm. I have taken it on a lot of snow photo walks in the city and hiking and the weather sealing is amazing with the XT-3. Finally, I challenge you to find a better OIS in a lens, seriously good; I wish my 100-400 worked this way.

    Great video, thanks! Looking back (a decade ago) I bought (a then just released) Canon 7D with the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens as kit. I loved this combo, the zoom range and the image quality were superb. I think I took some of my favorite photos during that time. I think this was because the versatility of the zoom range made for a more exciting trip out and about. I was using it exactly as you do here ... wide angle scene and then some close ups picked out within the same scene without moving my feet or changing the lens. Great fun. It compelled me to take my camera out more on random days out. Nowadays I have an X-H1 and a bunch of primes (loving it) and have pre-ordered an X-T4 but your vid here has made me hanker after the 16-80mm f4 lens for the new X-T4 because your vid has reminded me how much fun that range of zoom can be on day out/walkabout. Great stuff Omar, thanks for your insights. You always brighten the visit to youtube.

    I know this is quite the older video but I'm Debating swapping out my 16-55 f2.8 for this lens and I might be crazy.... I have that and the 50-140mm and they are a fantastic combo however I would LOVE a stabilized lens for video to just aid a little in camera shake. I have a smallrig cage and can get decent footage out of the 16-55 but I end up using a ton of stabilizing in post. I've also used the 10-24mm and I've LOVED the wide angle of things esp in video with epic landscape shots and it does a great job at IS.
    3 Options:
    - Sell 16-55 and get 16-80 I would actually come out with some extra cash since it's a less $$$ lens. I DO LOVE the 16-55 for portraits ect though.
    - Just By the 10-24mm and use for video. I think paired with the 55-150mm It would be a great combo for video. Keep the 16-55 for Portrait stuff
    - Sell XT3 lol and Get XT4 with IBIS and keep current lens set up...
    Wait till XH2 is announced and upgrade from XT3....

It's light, sharp, very versatile, and exactly what I want out of Fujifilm. They can even make it plastic and an XC lens. There's nothing wrong with their cheapest lenses.

    Hi Omar, I heard some complaints about the sharpness on the corners of the images when using in 16mm and 80mm, what are your thoughts about it?

      Murilo Quesada i bought mine used and the guy sent me some pictures up ahead to check sharpness - awesome lens! But yes, I heard there my be some softer copies out there, too.

    Hmm...interesting. I was so excited about this lens, but now seeing how much I like your images at 80 mm, makes me want to go get the 90 mm prime and glue that one on my Fuji instead of this one.

    Hi Omar! Please HELP ME!
    I have fujifilm xt20 lens 35mm f1.4
    And i’m having trouble with it, the screen flickers alot. I dont know whats wrong with it. I thought it was too bright, but when i make it darker. It still does the same thing. And the screen will go black after it focuses on something, the focus square is green but the screen go black.
    Please help. I’m really confused.

    • @flpideas1
      @flpideas1 4 года назад

      Oh my I thought I'm the only one that has this problem. The screen "flickers" and goes dark because the camera underexposes for whatever reason. It's either the problem with the X-T30 or maybe there's something with the lens since my lens is probably defective

    We need a comparison video , between the 18-55 and this lens for travel which is best and convenient. Is it worth getting the 16-80 or just keep the 18-55? So many questions haha.

      Sold my 18-55 when I bought this lens . It has been pretty much glued to my xt3 since I got it . I would say that it is slightly sharper then the 18-55 and love the extra reach .

    CRAP OMAR! You have me rethinking my decision...when I ordered my X-T4, I bundled the 16-80 with it (for all the reasons you mention), but then I cancelled that lens and opted for the 16-55 for the lower f-stop. Now I'm wondering if I made the right choice! CRAP OMAR!

    • @BeaveBallin7

      Ted T my XT4 is coming with the 16-80 and I keep debating whether I should sell the lens for the 16-55 f2.8 once I get it... it’s driving me nuts lol

    • @qdogg290
      @qdogg290 4 года назад

      I tested my 16-55 against two different copies of the 16-80. I wound up returning both 16-80s. In short, the 16-80 has a lot going for it but the 16-55 annihilates it at the wide end. The 16-55 is heavy but an excellent lens and the XT-4 addresses its biggest shortcoming -- lack of stabilization.

    • @BeaveBallin7
      @BeaveBallin7 4 года назад

      @@qdogg290 That's what I've read but as someone who will doing primarily run-and-gun videography I want something light to travel with and the versatile range will allow me to change lenses less frequently, so hopefully the decrease in image quality isn't a meaningful difference. That said, I'll probably buy both anyway and return one after some testing

    • @EduBroncano
      @EduBroncano 4 года назад

      I don't even understand that kind of comparisons. Those are different lenses with different pros and cons, made for different purposes. Versalitity + compactness (16-80) VS better IQ + bokeh (16-50). Each one is better or worse than the other in different goals. You choose.
