On the glycemic index-a scale that measures how quickly a food causes blood sugar to rise-a green unripe banana scores a low 30, while a ripe yellow banana has a medium GI value at about 50 to 60. I agree and sadly others are not talking about this.. You should always eat the banana green and you should only eat potatoes that are cooled, that's why the potato diet works so well(most is undigestible and helps colon cancer)..

Banana contains Fructose which can't increase Immediately Glucose level. But after a period of time Fructose is converted to Glucose by liver. Hence Fruits are better than Starchy foods.
Yes sir I too thought the same but fructose is converted to triglycerides which leads to fatty liver itseems. I'm in a confused state for feeding my son with T1 diabetes
Ofcourse u can. I do, one a day. And im a type 2 d. My levels are usually a lil high in the mornings (dawn phn) but once afternoon comes, i enjoy one with a cup of almond milk. Yum yum yum!

@@robwestley7370 Thanks... I cut my avocados into small chunks and put 4 or 5 chunks in every smoothie. One avocado will take me through 3 or4 smoothies. I use 1 to 1 1/2 bananas almost every smoothie but when I skip the bananas... I'll use the berries in it's place. I do intermitting fasting and I always start my 6 hr window of food intake with a green smoothie. The last time my numbers were this close (6.3) this method reduced my A1C dramatically to 5.7 soooo, IDK but I was just wondering if I should do better to avoid bananas daily. Doctor... My mother is 90 Yr old she is diabetic... And as of now doctor stop all fruits for. Her bec. Her potassium is higher... But she can not have her vowel everyday... What shall we do?
thanks for this info doctor. i am having shake in the morning. (one banana, 4-5 almonds, dry fruits , light milk, spinach, blue berries and strawberries) . i am type 2 diabetics. is it ok for me if i do this everyday? pls reply thanks
My opinion is don't do that in the morning. That's a pretty good sugar load for the morning. I suggest no one eat breakfast. Wait at least till noon. I'm not a fan of smoothies because it's a lot of sugar. To slow it down maybe have half a banana with a few blueberries and a couple strawberries. Better to have 10 almonds and half a banana than 5 with a whole banana. Also I wouldn't do banana everyday. Maybe not even fruit everyday. Just my opinion. You have to weigh the benefits. If you are diabetic of course fruit is better than a candy bar or snack bar but it's easy to overdue fruit sugar. Carbs from oatmeal or rice are much slower and still provide energy and for longer periods. Eat fat like avocados. Eat some protein like salmon in or grass fed hamburger. Eat a green salad. I only eat twice a day. Once about 2pm and again about 8pm. But no heavy meals. Just a couple things at each meal so your body can digest without being overloaded. Have a super evening. 😊
Thanks for the info Doc. .I am a filipino and i used to eat boiled bananas in our place ,does it affect my blood sugar? Its a plaintain banana here. . .
@user-pl8ij9et9w, bananas contain both sugar and complex carbs. However, moderation and portion control are key factors. Always chat with your health care provider for personalized advice.
Watermelon is okay glycemic load is actually low. Watermelon also provides a lot of water and some fiber. To know more about it, check this video: ruclips.net/video/lCcUtj_OlaY/видео.html

It helps to add Benefiber to all foods. It cannot be seen or tasted in food and really slows carb absorption.

can i eat a Sunde once a month safely with my diabetes?
Which is more important glycemic index value or glycemic load? Even though watermelon has a high GIV it has a low GL value.
glycemix load tell you how much of that food you ate, if you eat too much of even low GI food your BG will still spike
