Did Rostropovich play another instrument besides cello? Fritz Kreisler apparently played both violin and piano, and of course Pinchas Zukerman on both violin and viola.
I read that Rostropovich was a talented conductor and composer. He also played the piano. I however don’t think he was a soloist on anything else but the cello. I believe Fisher in the modern era is the only artist, that is a distinguished soloist on two instruments. It’s quite remarkable and widely considered impossible. Twoset violín remarked that her dual performance, is akin to playing the first half in the World Cup final and the second half in the NBA finals. Barenboim, a renowned pianist is of course a star conductor. Although I’m not a professional musician, I’d venture a guess and say it’s not as difficult to be a piano soloist and a star conductor, as it is to be a soloist on the piano as well as the violin. Zuckerman being a great violinist as well as violist is (again I’m not a pro musician so I don’t know for sure) likely not as difficult as as being a pianist and violinist due to the fact that they’re (violin and viola) two similar string instruments. The piano and the violin are two completely different instruments that require two completely different technical skill sets. Fisher’s interpretation is where I fell in love with Grieg’s piano concerto. I’ve heard it played with greater technical skill (eg Buniatishvili and Rubinstein) but her musicality suits my palate the best. I find her renditions on various violin pieces to be some of the best (imo) as well. Fisher’s Tchaik is really up there. So is her Sarasate.
RE: Randall Banks No musician will ever agree with that statement. Even child prodigies who have continued to be successful as adults will be insulted by such a comment, as it negates all the hard work they put into their instruments.
It should also be noted that she was appointed as professor of music when she was only 23, the youngest ever! She is truly a very special gift to humanity.

But whenever he did, this was the first piece he would always play, and he never had the sheet music in front of him. I'm pretty sure he was doing a shortened version of his favorite parts, but it was incredibly powerful. Was würde sie wohl ihren Schüler/innen raten?
Russell Avery in my opinion: let Fischer continue to play Mendelssohn and other romantic composers on the violin and leave the piano to .... Buniathisvilly. Both are capable to let us hear the intense beauty of the romantism (as a period) in music in their own intense way and on their own instruments, resp violin and piano.
I must agree, srsly, you can hear, that she is not a pianist. She is a violinist, which can play the piano as well, that is smth different. There is a difference, between playing the piano and being a pianist. So, I agree.
Each improves the other. Every pianist should, I think, play the violin / flute etc, and vice versa. Wonderful performance! I love the clarity of her playing. Inspiring.
I was reading the title like "Ah, Julia Fischer plays the Grieg A Minor. Wait a minute, Julia Fischer, the violinist? Is she conducting? No, looks indeed like she plays the grand piano. Wow!" I mean, basically all violinists at top level play the piano very well too, but most are not gutsy enough to perform this on stage! Chapeau!
Kudos to Ms. Fischer for expanding her reach. Kudos to the young orchestra; young, but obviously professionals. Would like to know more about how this performance came about.

rating a pianist and violinist on her looks rather than her talent, talks too much about you...
@@elgastidela7665 I'm not the one who made it all about looks. If you read the whole comment you see that I acknowledge that she is a very skilled musician.
Unbelievable! Incredible! Impossible! Heaven does grant her more than two talents, pianist, violinist, and beauty!

Dank, mevrouw Fischer!!!
Thanks for your unconditional love and support, where are you watching from?
Julia Fischer leads the wonder of the human race in it's finest, manifestation. I loved it!
Thanks for your unconditional love and support, where are you watching from.
She's a genius. Magnificent piano technique
Was würde sie wohl ihren Schüler/innen raten?
One is informed by the highest of authorities that her ukulele playing gives the benchmark for her musicianship.
Cheeky!
That human beings are capable of this restores my faith in humanity. Hard to listen without being so moved as to weep.
🥲
Wonderful Julia... you are just a dream !
27:09 Well... wait she is THAT Julia Fischer..? I can't believe my eyes and what I hear from this video....😭 she has got so much talents
Played like a true violinist....
+Russell Avery if you mean in time and with clarity, than absolutely :P
Russell Avery in my opinion: let Fischer continue to play Mendelssohn and other romantic composers on the violin and leave the piano to .... Buniathisvilly. Both are capable to let us hear the intense beauty of the romantism (as a period) in music in their own intense way and on their own instruments, resp violin and piano.
I must agree, srsly, you can hear, that she is not a pianist. She is a violinist, which can play the piano as well, that is smth different. There is a difference, between playing the piano and being a pianist. So, I agree.
+absoftitanium Said by a man who can't even interact with other people.
+absoftitanium It seems like you're triggered.
HOW IS SHE SO GOOD AT PIANO AND VIOLIN
Each improves the other. Every pianist should, I think, play the violin / flute etc, and vice versa.
Wonderful performance! I love the clarity of her playing. Inspiring.
Practice, practice, practice.
@@classicalduck Exactly....it takes an incredible brain to memorize these pieces plus, as you said, Practice....an incredible amount of practice.
@@jb9652 absolutely, I play multiple instruments and the skills definitely carry over.
I was reading the title like "Ah, Julia Fischer plays the Grieg A Minor. Wait a minute, Julia Fischer, the violinist? Is she conducting? No, looks indeed like she plays the grand piano. Wow!"
I mean, basically all violinists at top level play the piano very well too, but most are not gutsy enough to perform this on stage! Chapeau!
i've never seen a pianist sitting up so straight. :)) bravo!
edvard grieg and julia fischer pianist are wunderfull
Among other works of this great composer, thank you.
Kudos to Ms. Fischer for expanding her reach. Kudos to the young orchestra; young, but obviously professionals. Would like to know more about how this performance came about.
What's with the audible chop in the video at 20:16?! The visuals and sound are frequently a bit out of synch too, a pity as it's a lovely performance.
