Another one thats a little obscure: The First Olympics: Athens 1896. Its an 80s miniseries about the creation of the Olympics and the first American team.
I'd also recomend 1998's Without Limits starring Bill Crudup as Steve Prefontaine, the legendary distance runner who placed fourth at the 1972 Olympics. The film was produced by Tom Cruise and cast also includes Jeremy Sisto (as 1972 Olympic marathon champion Frank Shorter), Monica Potter, Donald Sutherland and Cruise's cousin William Mapother.
I have to recommend “Children of Glory” or its original Hungarian tittle “Szabadság Szerelem” which follows the historical events that unfolded during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution against the Soviets and the Hungarian Water Polo teams match against the USSR during the Summer Olympics in Melbourne. The match that takes place is known as the “blood in the water” match.
Why include movies about the winter Olympics if your "goal" is to get pumped for the Summer Olympics? Take out the winter Olympics movies and include, at least, Race (about Jesse Owens), Olympic Pride, American Prejudice (about the other black athletes who competed in the Berlin Olympics), The Swimmers (about two of the swimmers in the refugee team) and Salute (about the track and field controversy in the 1968 Mexico Olympics).
The goal was to get pumped for the Olympics in general, I grabbed from both winter and summer movies to provide variety, but I could certainly make a summer-only version if folks wanted it. You dropped in some great options for people as well if they wanted to lean into summer-only films, so thanks for including those
@@voxathletica By the way, a lot of people would also include Chariots of Fire, but I have to admit I have never seen it, so I don't know if I would recommend it.
Thanks for this. Some films I am very familiar with. Some I've never heard of. Bert and Dickie about Rowing at the 1948 Olympics is a good one to watch as well if you get the chance
Looking for more about the Summer Olympics... "The Golden Moment: An Olympic Love Story" (TV movie, 1980) a romantic drama about an American decathlete and a Russian gymnast (Stephanie Zimbalist, before Remington Steele) I found some on IMDb that I had never heard of: "Gold" (2018), from India - about the Field Hockey team that won India's first Olympic Gold Medal as an independent nation in 1948. A Turkish biopic "Pocket Hercules: Naim Suleymanoglu." "The Other Dream Team" - a documentary about Lithuania's 1992 basketball team that was sponsored by the Grateful Dead.
Appreciate you putting a few more in there for the summer Olympics, I was going for a mixed bag in the broader Olympic spirit, but you've got an awesome list for anyone zooming in on the summer events

@@voxathletica Here is a list of Disney Channel movies that are sport oriented: 1. Johnny Tsunami 2. Full Court Miracle 3. Double Teamed 4. Brink 5. Alley Cats Strike 6. Rip Girls 7. Miracle in Lane 2 8. Luck of The Irish 9. Motorcrossed 10. Gotta Kick It Up 11. Right On Track 12. Air Bud
Fun fact about Miracle: how Michael’s did all of his own commentary in real life for the movie of miracle except for the last 10 seconds because he said he didn’t think he could re-create the real life of the famous. Do you believe in miracles call.

Fantastic film for sure, nice one! RIP Donald Sutherland
I agree with those saying that this should have been a Summer Olympics specific list, particularly this close to The Games.
I was going for more of the Olympic spirit rather than the Summer Olympics specifically, but I do get everyone's point. Noted for next time!
