Ah yes the 7-30 Waters. Fantastic deer round. I never owned one but one of the guys in my deer camp used to use one. He killed a nice 8 pointer with it. He regrettably sold it and bought a 7mm-08. Fantastic video and so well explained. Im taking my 1899 savage in 303 savage this year for deer………yeah I’m old fashioned and yes you know all I use is handloads in it. Cast 150 grain rnfp at 2300fps to be exact. I can go faster but with BHN of 12 I don’t think I need to.
CW, Great Info on the 7-30 Waters, I have T/C Contender barrels a 14" and two 23" carbine barrels . I have a lot of wildcats based off the 30-30 Win . brass, 6 mm BRM. , 6.5 BRM, 7mm Bullberry . I have addiction of T/C Contenders , 17 frames and 56 barrels and still don't have enough ! I do have 30-30 Win.and 375 Win. Barrels too ! Keep the Great Videos Coming ! Stay Safe & Healthy ! God Bless !
Thats awesome man!! Back in 2000 I think I had 6 carbine bbls and probably 10 pistol. I miss the Match 22LR, 7/30 and 375 Win most in carbine & 357 Max, 7/30 & 357 Herrett most from Pistols.
The 7X30 Waters is the perfect candidate for the Hornady LeverEvolution pointed soft flex tip. It helps its trajectory and is safe in the mag tube of a lever gun. Developing an all copper bullet with that soft polymer tip would really be nice.
Thanks very much for posting such an informative commentary on the 7 - 30 W I'm hoping you have similar vids on the 7mm 08 & the many other excellent 7 mil, cartridges 💯😊
I have not done any as yet. But thank you for the idea and suggestion. I have a 7/08 and 7Magnum that would make for nice videos as well. Ill make a note! Thank you for the compliments and the visit!
Interesting cartridge I will have to look into this. Lots of great information nice video Brother. Never had an issue with Nickel reloaded many many rounds using Nickel cases
So back in my big contender days, I had 7-30 waters on my to do list. Yet I never ta did. When I say my big contender days, I mean 12-14" barrels in the calibers of. 35 Remington, .375 JDJ, and 45-70. Now I have obtained an action, and acquired 10" barrels in .327 Federal, 357 Rem max, 45-55 Walker, and 22 Hornet. Now my intention is with the pistol calibers is test burn efficiency rates of grades of black powder, and substitutes, and still have the ability for smokeless projects. 10" makes an easy round number to do the math on. I have been considering a 30-30 Ackley improved barrel as well to coinside with my rifle project. With that in mind mayhap I should reconsider the 7-30 again. Mountain man
Excellent info! I never really experimented with doing anything like this, although I did up size some .223 to 6mm one day by accident. I heard a few good tidbits of info in this one for sure! Happy Fourth!
Firsties 😁 I bought a Winchester M94AE when this cartridge first came out in 1984? A 24" bbl with checkering, the XTR model. I used the Sierra 120gr Spitzer FB a lot, as I didn't have a flat nose mold for 7mm. It was much more accurate then the Hornady 139gr FN. But it did make the Rifle a "2" shooter; one in the magazine, one in the chamber. But the pigs didn't care. I added a William's FP peepsight and a Lyman 1/8" Gold bead front and it was 1 1/2" groups at 100yrds from the bench 😁. The Hornady bullet couldn't come close to the accuracy of the Sierra. IMR3031 & W748 were My powders of choice. I think You'll have a lot of fun with this project. But I don't like the cannelure left behind on those cases reformed from the .38-55 brass.
EABCO BRM series, also 30-30 based cartridges follow a similar path. I have a 6.5 in an Encore rifle barrel. Very nice and efficient. Ken Waters' book on propellents is still available from Wolfe publishing. Good writer, good reference.😊
I always wanted to get a Ruger Blackhawk in 30 Carbine and rebore the cylinder for a shortened 30-30. I think that is like the 30 Herrett or something like that? Need to hit the old wildcat book again and look that up! Thanks for the video.
@@cw2a No kidding. I'm waiting on replacement pin for my RCBS die after managing to break it due to a stuck case...Maybe I should give it a try. Thanks, CW!
Pardner: you only had 800 views 😊 have you shot the 7x30 waters and loaded some for plinking? You surely would've had at least 1 million views 🤨 but clip was ( no bueno )
Hello Michael! I wish I was able to include range time. These videos are a small release for me as I am unable at this time to get to the range. Maybe soon.. Apologies but when I am able, Ill have video. Thank you for the chat!

The father of the 730 waters was the 7 mm international rimmed they are almost identical, and it’s made from 3030 brass As well
I remember it! But never had or shot one.

Mornin' CW. Interesting cartridge. Happy Independence Day. I like velocity for the reasons you mentioned for shots out west.

Sounds like a cool cartridge 👍🍻

Those 30carbine Blk Hawks was LOUD!!! But almost no recoil! Odd shooting!
I like not so common and under dog calibers best!
Pretty neat cartridge.
I love it!! Thanks Man!!
I bought 7-30 cases from midway 25 years ago

@frederickemmerick7730 I sold my 'tender 14" off 24 years ago. I do miss it and I am watching and will have one again.
Great caliber in the Contender.
👋👍👍
Thanks MOC! 🇺🇸❤️🩹👍🏼💥
Interesting about the sholder when u make them from 3030 brass
Yup fire-forming finished the brass off! Ready for use.
I have a custom Marlin levergun in 7-30. Pretty accurate round.
Ooh that would be SWEET!! There was another caliber called the 7mm Shooting Tomes EASTERNER! Close to the 7x30 Waters.
Excellent video with clear explanations behind the reloading process! Are you using Snow Seal as your case lube, or is that just a donor jar?
Its a excellent case lube!! (Use sparingly!!) Shh keep it quiet! 😜😜👍🏼🤘🏼😝😜
