I really appreciate that you are completely honest about the amount of work involved and the care and attention that must be paid to what you are doing. It is clearly NOT a simple task if you want your reloads to be consistent. Many thanks for the detailed explanation.

I DO agree with you about accurate loads. Progressive presses are the "cat's meow", but single stage is the way to go for uniformity and accuracy.

    • @Mag_Aoidh
      @Mag_Aoidh 9 дней назад

Yup, unless you’re feeding an auto-loader I would rather use a single stage press.

Great video from start to finish. I'm looking at starting to reload my own here in the near future thanks to a picky Savage FCP I recently purchased. It only likes 168 Sierras and they're tough to find at times. Definitely time well spent as your video basically "breaks the ice" about what reloading entails. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I'm sure it will help get a lot more people over that hump of asking the question, "can I really do this?" Two thumbs up.

Ive been considering getting into reloading for a couple years now, and i would have already if it werent for primers being unobtainium. Ive watched many videos on reloading but this is by far the best ive seen. Breaks it down with simple tools and shows just how easy it really is if you take your time. Many of the other videos on it made it seem very overwhelming to learn but you gave me confidence to get started once/if primers become available again. Thanks a lot man, great job.

I love the tray idea. I just accidentally found that out a week before this video. I take S&B plastic trays from their ammo box (they come in two 25 round sections) and duct take them on top of each other and have nifty 25 round 308 holders (I go nose down into those).

    • @biged7175

I like your set up, Almost identical to mine. I also use the powder charge, but I use my RCBS electric trickle. I dump then hit trickle and by the time I have seated my last round, the trickle is done. it works for me, I also have a couple of beam scales in case we ever lose power or experience an EMP lol I like Varga and IMR but prefer Varga if it is available. Also I use Large rifle magnum when using spherical powder, (2803 on the guage 6' from the barrel) (2793 using Large Rifle CCI 200). Don't care for the Mag primers using ball powder. I only use a max of half turn on the crimp but my RR LAR8 slams hard.
My buddy uses Mag Primers for all his rounds, swears by them, but he is more of a Kentucky wind-age shooter. I like to stick with the numbers.
Gotta be prepared for everything. lol
    Great video.

'Like the i4064 for .308 (Ol' Blue) for 125gn to 200gn. and for .223 52gn to 77gn. It is smart to buy in bulk since the mixture can vary from lot to lot if you buy only in pounds. Find your powder and buy bulk. I think 4064 4320 and 4895 are some of the oldest recipes. still reliable, highly accurate, nice choice.

Big Ed, I am just now researching the loading of necked case rounds now and found your video very demystifying. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and share. Also, judging by your accent and mention of Long Island....might want to delete that and talk with a southern accent in new videos...your guvna might send out the storm troopers if you discovers you are feeding a 700. :)

+flysubcompact LOL a property owner where I shoot always says the Guvna is gonna send out the helicopters looking for me.

Thank you for a down to earth reloading video without the testosterone-infused headbanger anthem intro and flashy titles. Your style and substance is very good and communication very effective. Also, thanks for not opening with the hackneyed, obligatory "what's up You Tube" salutation. You really moved the ball down the field for me on reloading .308!

most of us have started putting the cases in a bowl. Cover with either a lid or hand (depending on size of bowl), and then stirring the cases. Better case lubing with less effort, and no need to repeat.
I do have a question, Why didn't you like the hand priming?????? i love mine.

Which are my options if I primed a lot of cleaned and sized brass and now I need to resize them again to bump the shoulder a bit so they can fit in my bolt rifle.

hi Ed - great video thanks a lot for sharing. 9 years later it's still a hit! i was wondering what you do with the grain markings after shooting the rounds ... do you keep track of your MOAs/groupings for each grain count to determine the best performance on your rifle over time? or what else do you use this for? thanks again :) great informative video
