I sure do miss the groups on paper with the target came since you got the shot marker. I still like the video just I’m a visual guy and love seeing the shot to shot holes develop in the paper.
Couldnt care less about the actual paper targets. Shot marker is easier on Johnny so hopefully more videos more consistently this way. Plus shot marker actually gives velocity at the target. That's extremely important information that doesn't get brought to enough attention here.
While I actually prefer the paper target cam also, I understand why he switched...I imagine it was a pain to deal with that much extra footage and managing another camera
That Krieger is a Beast! Excellent accuracy and great shooting, it takes work to squeeze accuracy like that out of an AR-10 platform, but you're making it look easy.
I was putting together an AR10 two years ago when I came across your channel. I have the same set up with the 1:10 twist krieger m110 barrel. I have had similar results with ARcomp and 175 SMKs and 178 ELDX's. I have had cycling issues with AR comp that I have not had at all with any other powders. My barrel also likes Varget and imr 4895. Having lots of trouble finding AR comp right now. Thanks for revisiting the AR10 loading!
My intial workup with AR comp + 175's had .3 - .6moa groups over almost a 2 grain spread. Freakin factory barrel savage. AR comp almost makes it feel like cheating. I picked a almost random charge weight in there, and it has been my load ever since. I missed ARcomp at MSS a few weeks ago. Down to a couple pounds. Sad day.
very interesting that i've had these exact same results with .308 ( in several rifles). Somewhere around 2750fps seems to be an accuracy node for .308. My hunting load with 165g accubond/ballistic tip bullets runs right at 2755fps with Varget. I see a load with the sierra bullet between the top two charge weights. Very little POI shift and low enough SD. Adjust the gun for gas and shoot all day! Great video Johnny!
Just came across your channel today and I’ve been binge watching for about 2hrs now… I’ve always wanted to do my own reloads to save money and just have a better understanding about what I’m putting down range. I’ve been thinking very hard about getting an AR10 in .308 and this video shows me what one would do for precision shooting as opposed to a dedicated bolt action hunting rifle. I wish I had enough money to learn and buy reloading equipment but money is stretched very thin these days with inflation and helping my parents who both have cancer with their bills. I wish I knew someone like you that was close to me so I could watch and learn the reloading trade which is in high demand right now. Anyways, I’ve been enjoying your videos and your deep analysis you give, it’s pretty mind blowing to me as someone who has no knowledge of these science that goes behind making custom loads. Keep up the great work! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Jonny pick your best group with a nice SD and then fine tune it more with mandrel expanders. You can get the 21st century in virtually any size but start at no less than .002 tension and go .0005 smaller in sizes til you get the best numbers you can get. Order .306, 3055, .305, .3045 honestly one of those mandrels is going to bring the SD number down even more. It's hard to shrink groups with lapua brass because it's already consistent as heck. Between mandrels and possibly bringing seating depth in .003 at a time you are going to find a load worth duplicating 500 rounds of. Try dipping bullets in dry neck lube to keep from cold welding the bullet to the brass during long term storage. Great shooting bud! Keep it up
I have had similar results with 43 grains of Varget and Sierra 175 grain HPBT match bullets over a Federal 210M primer. OAL is 2.815". This load has worked fantastically in bolt guns and semi auto AR style guns with Lilja and Krieger barrels.
Oh hell yeah I have been waiting 2 years for this. Thanks Johnny for the early birthday present Sir. Omg 😱 that was the crazy accuracy I’ve ever seen. And it extremely nice to know that I have this exact same setup. In that exact same condition I experience the exact same kind of accuracy with the CFE223 and Sierra 168’s that you did 2 years ago Johnny. Now I have to get my hands on some AR Comp I’m already sitting on a few box’s of Sierra 168s. I knew it was a safe bet to get them while I could.
I shoot 223, 308, and even 30-30 (125's) with AR comp. It is my favorite powder. 308 with 168 and 175's just plain hammers. Its so consistent I throw it in a measure and can't tell the difference with weighed charges.. .5MOA load that I can produce in bulk.
@@mattfleming86 yes Sir I got to get to finding some AR Comp. This just sucks I’m really starting to get upset with this lack of reloading supplies now. I’m REALLY excited to try this out to see what my results are going to be. But I can’t find AR Comp anywhere.

I expect it to do exactly what Shannon’s rifle did. And if it does I’ll be filling a can with sub MOA 308 ammo
Zoomin bullets with great accuracy! Well done Johnny! Just amazing how that barrel doesn’t show a bad bad bullet. Some loads are better than others but nothing bad. 👍
I just spent a good chunk of the day finalizing a load workup for my 6.5 Grendel AR15 that I just put a 20 inch Proof Research match barrel on. I'm going the way you did using the 120gr Gold Dots but instead of AR-COMP I'm using Vihtavuori N135 getting ridiculous accuracy and extremely consistent number... I could've used this video earlier while I was reloading it seems like nobody uploads on Sunday... LOL But better late then never just glad you're uploading regularly again brother!!!
Handy tip on the e-target. You can offset the target by a set amount (1MOA for example) So you keep your aim at the center of your orange sticker, your shots land an inch below that, but on the shot marker it shows up like you hit the orange sticker... Hope that makes sense... but it makes aiming easier so you're not shooting out your center point. Common in f-class so we don't shoot out the X ring on the target faces.
The most accurate .308 load I developed for the AR-10 is with the 165 grain Sierra GameKing loaded with 46.5 grains of CFE 223 2850 fps and 3/8th inch groups at 100 yards. For Bolt action rifles the 165 grain Sierra Game King with 47 grains of CFE 223 delivers the same accuracy at about 2,900 fps! The gas port on the AR-10 bleeds the gas off so it maxes out using 46.5 grains of CFE 223. Bolt action rifles operate at higher pressure, so it can handle the 47 grains! Accuracy is amazing. These loads drop deer and other large game in their tracks!
I think the two best velocity nodes.2753 & 2755, with really good SD were with 43.1gr of powder. I think you have your powder selection nailed down. I would try seating depth to dial it in a tiny bit more but it was shooting really good with the same POI at that powder weight. I left out the last group only because the SD jumped up.
Tight, tight like a Tiger. I was going to mention don't forget atmospheric conditions, then you did, some people overlook that aspect to precision shooting, not the PRS guys, everything is a factor for them and they have load data for everything, that said that is excellent shooting from a AR 10 platform and shooter.
This is right down my boreline Johnny…I’m starting to reload and .308 dd5v3 3.5x15pst 419 hellfire brake with ssa-e…16”is my rifle…used Hodgdons specs which say 46.0grs starting on 175match kings..reading y’all’s stuff that seems high?..also had a dent in a unfired round that I stopped on..primer seems flat but makes me worry bout the few I know didn’t seat quite flush..just ordered some 168eld match for my second round at hand loads..brother you’ve got it down I can say seein groups like that…thanks matt in Ky…
Bought a Alex Pro Firearms and it shoots awesome getting .25 groups with military ammo. Had two friends watching they were amazed. One of them shot it and loved it and shot just as well. Looking to reload for it but do not expect any better results. A pleasure to shoot, great trigger and muzzle break.
God bless you sir for your great videos. Definitely proving that great shooting is made up of a lot of little things. Really happy to see you shoot like this in an AR10!
That is nice brass to be putting through an AR-10. I quit trying for multiple reloads and just use once fired GMM that I get at the range. Those big gas guns are hell on it...
I got the best groups ever out of a bone stock Remington 770 yesterday with CFE 223 and Hornady 150 BTSP. I ladder loaded it first then yesterday I took 12 rounds 4 groups of 3 with 30 min break in between groups. This load on my ladder test did .420. These did about the same biggest was .495 smallest was .395. So a cheap $350 gun that's not free floated did this. Say what you will about cheap guns. My Remington 770 30.06 will do .500 with 180 SST and hunter powder its bone stock to. Love the videos'
No expert by any means, but that Second Sierra group where the slugs were wandering reminded me of a time I was working up a load. Short version was by hook or crook I had three of 6 that had a burr/deformation at the base of the neck that caused an uneven release, pressure spike, whatever. Tried 6 more at the load that went it's own way and it punched a ragged hole the size of my pinky nail. Another round of that load confirmed it. I now run a smooth punch down the neck. Extra step, but have found almost 50 brass with that deformation over the past 5 years. Would a deer or hog know difference at a hundred? Doubt it. But I use the same rifle for prongs and coyotes which can push back to 4-500 yards. That would be a wounded animal and one VERY upset hunter. I have missed won't lie, but I have NEVER taken a shot that I didn't think was a done deal.
That 43.1 load of Hornady needs a little more exploring See how wide your margins are there That SD and ED are insane I’ve never seen the tightest group and SD be together like that. Normally they’re separate nodes. That would be an insane long range load. More than accurate enough with really fucking good consistency
Another great video JRB! BTW you think an AR-10 is hard on brass be thankful you're not using and M-14 pattern rifle. They are absolutely brutal on brass.
👍👌.....Sierras are always King of accuracy for swaged-match-bullets,......the proof is in measuring/weighing & ultimately the groups....& WELL worth the extra pennies.
Great video. I also go a year or more messing with my ar10 .308 loads. Last year I was also getting around 2550 fps with my load of 42.5 IMR 4895 with a 168 ELDM. This is out a 18” barreled AR10. I have been looking for more velocity. So I hope I get the same results as you with AR Comp and 168 ELDM. 2750 fps would be awesome.
Good stuff Johnny I have found similar results with 8208 and both these bullets. I shoot the Hornadys because they are a good bit cheaper. I want to test TAC too. I'm using LC brass and CCI 200s.
I just bought a pound of TAC but haven’t tried it yet. I’ve read on a couple shooting forums that it’s accurate but doesn’t perform well in the gas guns .
I have the exact same barrel and a 5-25X50 Viper PST. Best so far is with 41.0 of 4064 with a 175 SMK. Average 5 consecutive 5 shot groups is .65. My rich buddy bought an of the shelf upscale AR10 and shoots an average of 1.25. Powder is still hard to get around here but I’ll look for AR-Comp and give it a try.
Looks like your barrel likes the 2750 FPS range with those bullets. I have a Krieger barrel on a bolt gun in 6.5 Lapua it seems to like that range as well with 140 grain Berger’s. Good shooting!
Could you please try some copper solid bullets, they seem to becoming more popular for hunting and I have an upcoming Kentucky hunt. I tried some Barnes TSX 168 and had terrible results. Shot 8” low and to the right and 6” group at 100 yards from my normal target loads. I just want to make sure it is not just me and I trust if you can’t make them shoot I can’t.
Been my experience that Sierra's out shoot Hornady's, and hears the proof. I've been through the sierra plant several times and it's amazing, no wonder their bullets shoot so well, they test each process while making their bullets and they have very tight standards they have to meet.
Time to break the 6.5CM upper back out. Getting ready to get started with reloads in mine now that I’ve got a good chunk of factory fire-formed brass available. Would love to see what you can do with the 147 ELD-Ms. My Aero M5 seems to love the 143 and 147 listings from Hornady.
I'd be curious to see those loads taken out to two or three hundred yards for comparison. Anomalies like the weird groups would maybe be able to tell you a bit more of what is going on.
Do you have a 303 British rifle? I loved the surplus SKS reloading series and was wondering if you are planning to do any surplus bolt guns like a lee enfield or Mauser. Loving the content and my knowledge of ammunition has increased 7 fold watching thanks so much for all the free knowledge and content!
I’m very jealous Johnny. You’re a 308 out shoots all my bolt action rifle‘s dang it. I still miss the paper no that shot marker is handy but anyhow I’m an idiot can’t think of what to say next.
I tell ya, that 168gn Sierra MK and TMK are two of the best bullets I've ever shot out of a 308. I did a test once between 6.5 Creedmoor & 308 Win. I can't remember if it was the 140 or 147 gn ELD-M, but the 308 was 168gn TMK. At 1k yds out of a RPR in 6.5 and a RPR in 308, the hold for center mass was 0.1Mil difference between the two and the 308 was I believe a 20"-barrel vs a 24" on the 6.5. The bullets being produced nowadays are just so much better. Berger still rules in the 308-game, from what I've been told by numerous F-Class shooters including a couple of the 308 national champs.
OH yeah! You wana 308 bullet try the new 169 smk! It shot better consistently and at just over mag length I was shooting over max Sierra data with little pressure signs
I've really been missing the .308 AR platform shooting here Johnny. Thanks for the video. Also if you're looking for any other ideas, how about the 6.5 creedmoor AR platform. Thanks again as always
I couldn't get .33” group poking the holes with a pencil. Nice shooting/loading Johnny

I can not believe that gas gun is wadding em up like that. Impressive to say the least
Great shooting!
Lake City MATCH (M118 "Long Range") is listed as velocity of 2640 FPS with the US 172 grain bullet. Either WC 846 or IMR 4895, 44 grains.
You gotta give the 208 eldm a go!!! THEY ARE KICK ASS!
Okay, I'm insanely jealous. I can't get my LR-308 to shoot anywhere near that good.
Good stuff Johnny
I have found similar results with 8208 and both these bullets.
Powder is still hard to get around here but I’ll look for AR-Comp and give it a try.
great load and shooting
Very nice shooting!
That is impressive shooting
I was just at the range today trying to work up a load for my Sig Tread 716i shooting Sierra 175gr w/IMR 4895.
This video is best ever for reloader
Time to break the 6.5CM upper back out. Getting ready to get started with reloads in mine now that I’ve got a good chunk of factory fire-formed brass available. Would love to see what you can do with the 147 ELD-Ms. My Aero M5 seems to love the 143 and 147 listings from Hornady.
AR Comp is fast, 100% powder burn in even a 10-inch barrel, but it works!
He does have two Swiss bolt guns and two Mosins; as well as a Grande
I second the 303 British.
@@paulharveu526 nice! I need to go back in the channel and go watch those videos.
I’m very jealous Johnny. You’re a 308 out shoots all my bolt action rifle‘s dang it. I still miss the paper no that shot marker is handy but anyhow I’m an idiot can’t think of what to say next.
I wonder if there’s a similar story to be told for 6.5CM, which is what my Aero/Criterion AR-308 is built for.
M118 175gr that would be a great video
I've really been missing the .308 AR platform shooting here Johnny. Thanks for the video. Also if you're looking for any other ideas, how about the 6.5 creedmoor AR platform. Thanks again as always
I've switched to 155 grain HPBTs in my AR10, and my groups are consistently 0.5 MOA now using BLC-2
Love this channel!!!❤
Do have have a basement full of powder? So glad you do these but would love to test myself. If i could get good powder options. Thanks for the vids.
