    I’ve been a projector gamer now for about 15 years at least. I find it disheartening that they’ve fallen so far behind TV these past few years. The fact that they’re still shipping projectors in 2022 with HDMI 2.0 and not 2.1 is mind boggling.

      Not that surprising in the end its still a smaller market then the Monitors and TV's. And seeing gaming monitors are usually marketed for E-sports type of titles. Not sure you want projectors in that segment outside for spectators.
      TV's are usually more for the console gamers.
      If I were to game on a Projector I would want to play a story driven game that has impressive visuals, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Forbidden West, Cyberpunk, Last Tomb Raider, Guardians of the Galaxy, Uncharted 4 and Control.
      I'd probably avoid most fast paced games seeing a to big a screen makes you scan more as well across the image you'll lose time.
      Racing games might be an exception though. And probably avoid multiplayer games entirely even the casual ones that would probably burn up the lamp to quickly and to much Idle time. But thats more of a pragmatic mindset, might try it to see what it looks like but that would be it.

      I think, the Future is...Laser Projector...but it's still to expensive, to much input lag and u need extra screen that costs half the price of the projector...
      That's why almost nobody want's a projector, so people buying 4k 75 inch tv instead with lower input lag and 120Hz...

      @Madonna Moya Movies play amazingly well. Looks as good as any top of the line T.V even when screen is at 120"-150" but after that size quality starts to drop off quickly to about 720p at 200". I don't think it has 3D but never checked.

    Epson home cinema 3800 is one of the very best projector for gaming available on the market and one of the best deal you can get. With 4k pixel shift, low input lag, amazing color and HdR 10, for real i’m surprise it’s not in the top 5 here. The only bad thing we can say about it is that it doesnt support hdmi 2.1. I used it on my ps5 on performance and resolution mode and it is INSANE, color and black are waaaaay better than the optoma

      Focus uniformity issues aside, it is a great deal. As long as you're okay with one corner/side of your image being slightly out of focus, which isn't all too noticeable in movies - but occasionally is an issue with HUD elements and text in games. I went through FIVE different HC 3800 units before their tech support finally caved and told me it's a manufacturing issue and you're never going to get a unit with perfect uniformity. I still think it's a great value for a projector, especially for gaming - but to anyone reading this and considering the 3800, be warned.

    Great overview. I find that one important reason to choose a projector over a TV is support for stereoscopic 3D. Sadly TVs have stopped supporting this niche feature, but I think most of the projectors on your list do. I wish you would have mentioned it per projector! Also, though HDR support on projectors is really bad compared to, say, an OLED TV, it would still be nice to know how these projectors compare.

    I've been using the X1300i since October! Up to 240hz 1080p, plenty for my Series X. While it won't produce 4K, it'll accept a 4k signal for downscaling. The long lifetime offers some comfort, too, where the tk700i is using traditional lamps. Rainbow effect goes away when playing games anyhow. I really wish that reviewers would include the fact that ambient light and open curtains cause glare on MOST Flat Panel TVs and this greatly affects the image quality while watching with ambient light. Almost equally as much as with a dark scene on a projector fading out the image.

    • @HeavyInstinct
      @HeavyInstinct 2 года назад +3

      I couldn't agree with you more. This is exactly why I have a projector setup with an ALR screen in my living room instead of a large flat panel tv. I absolutely can't stand the glare and reflections and they become even more bothersome the larger the screen size. When I'm watching TV or playing games I want to see what's on the TV without also seeing a reflection of myself and everything that's in the room behind me.

    My search for the right projector actually ended around a month ago. Context, i work in film, specifically as an editor and colorist. Mainly freelance. I recently purchased an lg c1 oled, which does double duty as a reference monitor for coloring, and as a gaming tv since i have a series x. I’ve been looking at projectors that aren’t too expensive but have all the features i want and for a while that was impossible until ces this year. I just preordered the Benq x3000i. For watching movies and watching final cuts of work i do on a large screen, it has 3000 lumens, good contrast, and most importantly 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage. For gaming, 4k 60 with low latency , i’d stick to 4k for sure. But importantly as well for me, it supports eARC, which surprisingly not a ton of projectors seem to have. I’m getting this with the vizio elevate soundbar, should be a good setup👍

    • @bobdole2184

      Nice 👍 preordering the x3000i as well. Was in the market for 4K gaming projector last year settled for a the cheapest 120hz low latency 1080p until better 4K gaming projectors come that also are great for HDR/3D movie content and the x3000i seems to fit the bill with that 100% p3 and better contrast levels. Hopefully it is what we hope it is lol 😂

    I picked up the Xgimi Horizon (1080p version) on Black Friday for $940 and in game mode its around 35ms of lag. It works well for my Nintendo Switch plus it uses LED bulb so it should last 20k hours. Not to mention portable since speakers are very good. Uhz50 has around 16ms of input lag. Considering the 8ms options they beat it out. Lag is about the same for LS12000. LS12000 is also out of reach for most people considering cost although it does support 4k@120. Hey Chris! Just found your channel, and have been binging your videos as we get ready to purchase a new projector. We have an Optima GT 1080 Darbee, and its getting a bit long in the tooth I think. One HDMI port got zapped by lightning, and the case has browned from getting hot while playing games. It still works, but looking for something new. Games and Movies. I really loved this optima, and kinda decided to go with the same brand. We were kind of stuck between the 1080HDR and the 1090HDR. I think because we have quite a few windows in our new livingroom I will go with the 1090 for the extra lumens and possibly the laser technology. Any thoughts? Buy the 1090 and if we don't like it go back to the 1080? 1080 is $799 currently and the 1090 is $1499. Thanks and love your videos!!!

    I keep hearing about the benq tk700sti in best-of lists, but not the tk700. Is there some reason it's not as good? I can't really support a short-throw, and am looking to upgrade my benq w1070 for gaming. Replacement lamp quality for it has been dropping as stock ages

    If you're on a native 4k projector like the Benq TK700sti and you send a 1080P signal to it, does the projector upscale the image to 4k? Will this make the image look soft?

    Hi Chris, I see meabe 2 years for a projector 4k for gaming. You told that epson5050ub was the best before for gaming. The contrast was better than the BenQ TK700STi. Wish one is the best? I have a Xbox SerieX play a lot of game but WArzone is one I play. No need hi brightness because i'm in basement and for now I have a icodis T400 (LED) temporary since 2years :). For me in CA the price is the same like 3100$ for Benq and 3600-4000 for Epson but the Lamp I don't know I don't find them to BenQ CA. but I know Epson was 400$ So change lamp if 4000hours each 2 years meabe a laser projector was better???
    I Think I use 2000 hours. 20hours per week X 52 week did 2000 hours. Thank's if you can help me to take the best choise.

    Please help! I bought a ViewSonic PX701 4k. It's only giving me 4k if I send my PS5 directly into Projector. I have a 5.1 sound bar set up. When I try to use the arc ports like I have been with my PS4, the video gets sent down to 1080 and it tells me projector doesn't support 4k all.of a sudden. Is my sound bar the issue? I am able to get Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio from my sound bar so I'd assume it can send a 4K video signal?! I don't want to return this projector if I don't have to please help.

      You need to make sure ALL your HDMI cables support HDMI 2.0 minimum. also you need to make sure that your soundbar allows a passthrough at 4k 60hz HDMI 2.0 minimum. I'm suspecting that your soundbar is not able to do 4k 60hz passthrough

    This projector gets the job done pretty well. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.

    Projectors in gaming are useless 😂. I grew up playing competitive tutti fighters on a CRT, so I can very easily and noticing tell the difference between a less than 1 ms response time vs a 4+ms response time. Seems like the technology isn’t there yet for gaming projectors. I would not maste money at all on a gaming projector.

    Hey Chris, I'm curious on this question I'm about to ask. I watched your top 10 ust projectors broken down into categories. I have $3000 to spend. I've been looking hard at the xgimi aura. As far as value for money. I thought this be a good choice? My wants in a ust projector is of #1 course picture quality. But I also like a easy setup (keystone) such as put the projector on my entertainment area and adjust it to where the screen is( not adjust the screen to where the projector is.) I'm also looking for a good ust for ambient light since I won't be watching in complete or somewhat complete darkness all the time. I was looking at alr screen but I'm on a budget of about $500. I heard carls cinegrey would be a good choice as their alr produces Hotspot on ust projectors . I'm Not sure maybe you can answer that? Please help a novice out!!

    Can you please stop saying "True" or "Real" 4k please? There are no such things unless you are in the business of lying to people, those are buzz words which usually mean 4k upscaled. There is only native 4k 4092x2160 or not native 4k. Even 3840x2160 is not native 4k because it is robbing people of the actual native resolution.

    • @ericarthurblair6832
      @ericarthurblair6832 2 года назад

      True 4k means it can display at least 3840x2160 distinct pixels. Native 4K is a measure for the DMD chip used. For example using 4 way pixel shift you can use a 1920x1080 DMD to get true 4k

    • @SlyTravels
      @SlyTravels 2 года назад

      @@ericarthurblair6832 Stop trying to make yourself sound smart, it's still a buzzword that does not mean native. 3840x2160 is still not native 4k. Just because the source can display "at least" X amount of pixels, it's still not a native 4092x2160 resolution. You are being robbed of a native resolution not pixels.

    • @ericarthurblair6832
      @ericarthurblair6832 2 года назад +3

      @@SlyTravels all I said was that we atr talking about different things when saying "Native" as opposed to "True". It's not a buzzword, you just don't know/understand the difference between pixels on a chip and outputted pixels.

    • @xXSinForLifeXx
      @xXSinForLifeXx 2 года назад

      True/real = native it's literally a similar world to describe the same thing.
      Some projectors pixels shift 2k to 4k and thats why he's making the distinction of true 4k.

    • @SlyTravels
      @SlyTravels 2 года назад

      @@xXSinForLifeXx True 4k vs native 4k
      4K native content means that the input resolution is already 3840x2160 (4K). Although both native and upscaled offer the same resolution, native 4K is better as the picture contains more detail. Using upscaling detail cannot be added. Do some due diligence before you talk to me, stop spreading misinformation.
