WOW was wondering if you were going to do a gaming projector review and .... You KILLED it! Thank you, I feel like this video simply explains which projectors are good for my scenarios and my budget!
Especially it's the contrast where it's at... The ANSI contrast test(black and white checkerboard) usually slaughters projectors, you won't find models that have above 1000:1 contrast
Wow, that was truly in depth, you really know your stuff. Ive been into projectors for decades, and always knew how good dlps were, but still didn't know all the nooks and crannies etc e.g. the difference between a 0.65 inch chip and 0.45 chip... Great video. 💪👌👍
Nice work as always! I was waiting for this one to drop as I've been checking out the X1 and X2 4K and saw that you were going to do the shootout when you mentioned it over on AVS Forum. Looks like I'll be getting the BenQ i500 or X2!
Thank you! I’ve been eyeing the X2 as my sweet spot is 1440@120hz. Truly appreciate all the work you put into this video! I upgraded my receiver to a 3800h to lay the ground work for this upgrade 😂 little by little.
X300G will be in my lifestyle projector video, but my initial impressions are that the X500i is a better projector if you plan on a more permanent setup.
The noise from thr pixel shifting motor was a deal breaker for me when purchasing a 4k projector 4 years ago. The humming noise is just rediculous! Im surprised this issue hasnt been weeded out yet. I purchased an 72" Tv instead. Going to wait on the 4k projector untill they remedy the awful noise. Fantastic Review, very Informative!
The dude made me so interested about projectors. Well i bought a cheap ass one but will plan to buy a UST projector one day. Surely will be tuning out for future products from his reviews
Can you please do a comparison between jmgo n1s ultra 4k ultimate edition 3500cvia vs the n1s ultra 3000cvia vs formovie theatre vs awol 3500, this was we get to know how far have short throw projectors have come, are they worth the extra money, or long throws are still ahead. This also let's people choose for when they have an option to place either.
Hi there, im strugglig to decide between benq (either one) or the aurora pro. Itll be mostly gaming with films from time to time. I can get the room dark but there will be times with some daylight. Im looking for the best image despite that. Additionally the room its in isnt very large. 2.6 m across so a short throw, or ultra short throw might be good. Any suggestions? :) Edit: ive just discovered the hisense px2-pro. Do you know if this is maybe a decent option
@@TheHookUp thanks should be enough time to cancel my pre-order if it doesn't meet expectations. Please also give some projector screen recommendations!
I have a Viewsonic 4K projector for over 3 years. The movies and games look crazy at 120 inches Bright, sharp, colorful even with some light on. Has low input made for gaming. This projector destroyed my. Yaber, DBpower, Vankyo and other Amazon projectors I had.
Depends on which one! I've had a p700hd in my bedroom since 2020. It's been absolutely fantastic. On a 1.1 gain elite screen pulldown, it was good. But on a high gain 2.6 gain fixed screen, wow. Just wow. Match made in heaven. But the ViewSonic 748-4k... So it's extremely bright. Problem is, I bought it 14 times. 14. ViewSonic got mad because one broke on me, and absolutely refused to send me another, until I changed the name and address. It broke too. Just nada. My guess, their newer frames are WAY too small as well as the fan. Because the p700hd is still going today, even after being outside often on a 200" screen
14:30 You wouldn't recommend the Nexigo at 1440@120 or 4k@120, does that also apply to PC gaming where 120 frames can be rendered at 1440p or 4k as opposed to the Xbox?
If I were using a PC I'd use 1080p120 or 240. Rendering 1440p with a pixel shifting projector is a little strange since the pixels are diagonal and overlapping rather than quads.
hello, can the x2-4k mounthed on the ceiling if the throw distance is only 1,5m from the screen? Cause i fugure it has to be very low mounted on the ceiling to get the keystone right? And then the projector will protude into the screen. I mean it will be in the viewing field right? I dont want to see the projector in my sight while im wathing the screen.
The vertical offset is 0, meaning the bottom of the screen is lined up with the bottom of the lens. When ceiling mounting the projector is upside down, so top of the screen is aligned with the top of the lens.
@@TheHookUp thanks for replieng! So just to understand it correctly. If my screen top egde is about 15-20cm to the ceiling, the projector on the ceiling has to be mounted 15-20cm too? Not near the mid level of the screen, right? Just for you to understand: I want to use the projector in my bedroom! My bedroom has 3,30meter from one wall to the other. Means I will be viewing the scrren from 3,60meters. My Screen is 100" in size. You think I can mount the projector 1,5 Meters(thats the throw distance to get 100" on the x2-4K) from the screen on the ceiling, to a hight, where it want be protrude into the viewing field without using the software keystone correction? I mean will it be high enough, so that it want be distracting? Would be totaly distracting to see it in the picture. Also can you please tell me if the black levels are good on the Viesonic LX700 4k on the eco mode with hdr footage? Cause i couldnt figure this out when ive watched the video. Im hasitating between these to projectors. x2 has nice black levels but the lx 700 has brightness, wich is need for 3d viewing(cause shutter glasses) Also one question finaly: Has the lx 700 4k these weird colored reds? On my viewsonix px 701 4k the reds are kind a like orange. Explosions and flames looks off and weird. THANK YOU!
Hi I have purchased Zebornics Pixaplay 28 & My doubt is that company mention 30,000hrs lamp life that is real or fake . Most of Budget projectors mention high lamp life than expensive projector has less lamp life . Why?
This is a great review - Thanks! For those who care about black levels, contrast and sharpness, my pick would be Lx700-4k. BenQ models have RBE and blurry edges, have not seen that with ViewSonic models.
That is not backed up by the data from this video. The LX700-4k had relatively poor black levels in full power mode (0.101nits) and has an unusable dynamic black mode due to noticeable "steps" in laser dimming. The X2-4K's black levels were much better even with dynamic black mode off (0.067nits) and had a very usable dynamic black mode with a black floor of 0.034nits. The RBE was no different on the BENQ vs the Viewsonic models in this video, and I would say overall the focus on the BENQ units was better than the Viewsonics.
@@TheHookUp dynamic black mode is bad, use cinema or game mode on lx700 for best black levels with contrast +10 and brightness -12. May be your setup is different - for me in a 155 inch screen in pitch black environment, I have tested many BenQ models (Ht4550, Ht3560). I found lx700 having superior black levels sharpness and brightness with no RBE or speckles. I agree it falls short on color accuracy. Just my perspective...
Dynamic black is not a picture mode, it's under lamp options. You get "constant power", "dynamic black" and "eco", and those are all selectable for each picture mode. The tests in this video were done in Cinema. LX700-4k has better native blacks than the ht4550i (and X3100i) for sure, but not better than the X500i. HT4550i blows the LX700-4K out of the water in terms of color accuracy though.
The noise level will be the same as 4k60hz because the XPR motor runs at that same frequency for 1440p120hz. No issues mirroring as long as both displays support that output resolution and refresh rate.
I have a Nvidia Shield TV Pro and a older gaming PC for streaming and MKV movies. I game on Xbox series X. Is the BenQ still the top choice over the X2 if you don't use the built-in streaming dongle?
I didnt have time to get to even halfway so if you mentioned this later in the vid, my bad. Dudes if youre deciding between the Nexigo and one of the BenQs and leaning towards BenQ you should keep in mind..the differnce between 8.6ms and 16ms input lag will be nothing. To anybody. Discernible input lag is way higher to the eye. He uses expensive testing equipment so everythings precise. Tbh, flatout...not even close in this list of PJs the Nexigo is the automatic choice. If ultra short throw is an option that is. The specs after testing on everything will blow them all out overall. And dont forget to use his link to buy any projector hes tested. Just search hook up projectors and the make and model. If hes reviewed it, the video will pop up. And just my little old opinion and only in the interest of helping...the Aurora Pro is the obvious winner. Serious gamers ( not professional perhaps) watch movies too dont ya? Its so much better.
Thank you for these reviews, it is serious dedication of time, and effort on your part!!! I decided 4k is great, but because of the distance, and my living room setup that I cannot switch to a higher end setup, because I cannot tell the difference! Especially with plain off white walls to just stick with 1080p for the budget price and quality of the PJ40. But, I have seen your earlier videos about flex seal paint ect… but would love to see an updated review of screen paint, because I have seen many new screen paints on the market!!! I am interested in purchasing this paint primarily for daytime use. It seems from other reviews to really make a daytime difference. (Side note: I was lead to use a short throw projector versus Ultra Short throw because of my fireplace blocking location of projector placement.) Btw, Speakers have not been important to me, because I use a 7.2 Channel surround, but I would love to see a review video for ease of use for Bluetooth setups because I am interested in the cordless functionality. I would like to see this because The Bluetooth marketing is very confusing! Bluetooth 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 ect….. Also, I would like to compare how easy the setup process would be for the Bluetooth setup would be for some of your favorite projectors. Ontop of this I found the marketing for WiFi especially in the budget projector market to make some big big claims, WiFi 6 ect….I know there also WiFi speaker setups so this is also very confusing. Looking forward to see how you might review this the future!
Mate, You have no idea how much i appreciate you for uploading these types of detailed content and more so for uploading these today. Was literally going to pull the trigger on the x3100i. Though still confused as the x500i has the smaller 0.47 Chip inside
Same! I was just about to get the x3100i, instead of hisense c1 because it's much brighter and I would like to use it outside in the evening. not sure what to do now :))
@@TheHookUp Awesome to hear! I'm between the x500i and the TK710Sti. Really looking for your feedback on the TK710Sti. If it's as good as the x500i and just quieter, it'll be enough for me to buy it. Unfortunately, I missed the pre-order 10% discount - but silver lining I can wait for your review!
Nice video. Do You think x500i is better than x300g if so is $500 difference in price justified (in Australia). Also ViewSonic LX700-4K is $250 cheaper than X300g. I mostly casually play on my ps5 and have a restricted budget of $2k Aud. I prefer image quality over input lag as long as 4k 60hz is under 20 ms . As for other serious froms of gaming I have a Oled Monitor. What would you recommend ?
Been looking forward to this video for a week since I saw your post on Reddit. Really hoping the Viewsonic LX700-4K holds up. It looks sooo promising on paper. I'm sure your super in depth great videos will tell me all I need to know though. :D
Im using one and its working great for me. One important thing for me is it was basically the only 4K Laser Gaming projector with eARC at its price point. I looked at the X2-4K and it really seemed like it performed better and has a lot of nicer options like a nice remote and built in wifi and internal power supply, but I needed eARC and the X2-4K does not have it. And I really needed standard throw not short throw.
@@jason3fc I'm in kind of the same boat with needing standard throw and not short throw. 0.95 to 1.05 really. But that's good to hear that it works great. I've heard so much about it being very faulty at the moment. Having faulty HDR implementation that is stuck on. That kind of thing. Seen people in forms say they have had it replaced twice already. So kinda put me off. But at least some people are having a good experience. I don't really know what eARC is or why that's so important though?
@@jason3fc One question I have is the brightness varies so much depending on what mode you use. 2734lm in bright mode 1784lm in movie mode 1988lm in game mode But can you still do 1440p 120Hz in the bright mode? Or would you even want to? are the colours terrible? is input lag noticeably worse?
I don't have much bad to say about the LX700-4K other than the fact that the dynamic black mode is unwatchable so the 5000:1 contrast ratios that some reviewers are reporting is not usable. Overall the color accuracy wasn't as bad as some people are complaining about and I didn't have any issues with HDR, though I'd still recommend turning off HDR at the source since SDR will look better on a single laser projector.
@@HoneyTwee I havent had any issues with HDR going off and on, it seems to work fine, though most non-gaming sources I am using is Apple TV. eARC is so I can route sound back out directly to my Soundbar/Sonos system which requires HDMI input. Also I watch and play in a mostly darkened room so don't really have many concerns about brightness, but its brighter than my previous Optoma UHD 55.
On the LX7004K I am trying to understand the maximum vertical offset. You mention a vertical offset of 7" but then a lens shift of 7". Does that mean the screen can be raised 14"? The documentation is very unclear on this as well so your personal observation would be much appreciated.
What do you think about benq w5800? Is it better than w4000i (4550)? I am stuck between sony 5000es (degradation problems) epson 12000 (reliable and does everything maybe not at best) and w5800. Your help will be appreciated 😊
3D support is so important for projectors, I'm glad you mentioned that near the 23-min mark. It's one of the major reasons to get one, otherwise a TV is usually best
Robert, love your videos! I am struggling to find a projector for a batcave movie room. I got a veiwsonic ls751hd DLP projector, that is very quiet and has a great PQ but the rainbow effect is hurting me eyes so bad. I have to replace it. Now i see the ls11000 does not have a proper refresh rate so I guess the motion blur will be noticeable and i am very sensible to it , so I will be unsatisfied seeing how much it costs. I am out of options...this is frustrating. Any advice?
I am almost sure I will buy X500i but I wonder if 2000 lumens is enought for 0.85 gray screen at 104"? It will be close to a walls (small attic room, it should fit just between roof sides), so I'm worried that white screen will wash out colors/contrast.
Wonderful comparison! Great review! But comparing WCG mode of X3100i is not good idea. Because normal HDR10 mode showing quite better image quality than HDR10(WCG). In spite of contrast number is quite better X500i but the image of X3100i looks much better than X500i in SDR. I think HDR mode would be similar result if WCG mode was turn off. Anyway your review was fantastic.
i am still not sure to get the Nexigo pro or the awol 3000/3500 pro. gaming is most important thing with 4k 60hz or 1440p at 120. after that comes watching movies. Did you do some testing with the awol ust aswell or is it not suited for gaming and thats why you didnt include it in this video?
On the most recent firmware the AWOL 3500 Pro measures at 18.3ms for 4k60hz and 85.3ms for 1080p120hz, 31.7ms at 1080p240hz and 18.4ms at 1440p120hz. However, the 1440p120hz measurement is not stable, which indicates that it might be dropping every other frame and displaying at 1440p60hz, but I'd need to do further testing on blur busters to validate that.
Not sure if you could help with this but recently i had an idea since ive been wanting to start streaming during some free time...and i want to use a projector, but the only thing im having a hard time with is how would i set it up? for example could i set it up the traditional way and incorporate it as a "green screen" or can i set a projector screen behind me and get a webcam and stick it in front of my face and still get good quality streams without having to buy a expensive pc/capture cards etc..
Thank you for your review. I can see on the benq x500i mentioned that they support 1440p@120hz but downgrading to 1080p. Does it really affect the output image? Is there any projector output native 1440p@120hz?
I'm looking for a 4K gaming projector. How do these hold up against the Optoma UHD55? I wanted to get the UHD38, but I need a shorter throw distance. Like around 11 ft.
Another really great video! Much appreciated as always. I was wondering if the X500i did have the .65" chip, but that was part of the press releases, so I will have to try to store that away and ensure I remember it. Good to hear how well the X500i holds up in this shootout. The 2150ST for years was a solid model, and the X500i is LONG overdue as a short throw gaming model from them. Great to hear it does so well.
Hi, out of interest how does the x500i compare to the p1000? As they both use the 0.65" chip and seem to be relatively noisy, wondered how the brightness / general picture compares? Thanks
The X500i is MUCH more color accurate if that's something you're interested in. The C1 is much more vibrant and punchy, but not necessarily true to the source video. I did do a side by side here: ruclips.net/video/qQ5j7R9nQdc/видео.html The C1 is a little more red shifted in this video than in real life due to the tri-laser. I usually do an eye-match (perceptual match) using my calibrated monitor during testing, but didn't do that for this clip.
Man I'm so curious about your take on the ''new'' jmgo n1S and the new dangbei dob2. I wonder if they solved the intense laser specle on the jmgo. But being brighter, hmmmm I don' t know...
Thank you very much for your obvious hard work on these reviews, there are very few who actually do it as thoroughly and unbiased as you. Cheers! There are a few things I have been wondering about however: you review them in their most 'colour-correct'-mode, usually something 'Cinema' or alike, without calibrating them. Is this because it is an uncommon practise with projectors? Or is it hard to do? Because I would assume that some projectors would be a whole lot better once calibrated (as with TV's) but I am not quite sure how do-able this is for the average user. As someone who is currently looking for a projector (and, quite frankly, doubting between the x500i, the 3100 and the Epson 3800) I find it rather hard to weigh in your assessment of these specific projectors as-they-are, versus how good they could possible be once properly calibrated/configured. From a purely theoretical/specification perspective I find it hard to see why the x500i could be better than the 3100 but you have obviously demonstrated otherwise (shame I rather have a slightly more silent long-throw projector). I settled on ordering the 500i and see if it works for me. Just read in your other comments the reason why you don't review 'lamp' projectors, interesting. Would have loved a side-by-side of the x500i and the 3800 but I guess I won't be seeing that anytime soon. Never figured that lamp projectors vary so much in their early lamp-lifetime. Looking forward to your paint video and keep up the good work!
I would estimate less than 1% of projector owners get their projectors calibrated. The equipment, software, and experience required to do it well makes it an impossibility to DIY. Depending on the projector you may be able to get away with a $500-600 colorimeter, but for newer tri-laser projectors a proper spectroradiometer with narrow enough resolution can cost $8000-10000.
Hello. Tell me please, you are change color settings in viewsonic lx 700 or you use the default settings in test? If you are using the default settings, please tell me which image setting was set. I want buy viewsonic lx 700, but heard about the poor colour calibration from the factory and don't understand, Is it possible to use it on the default settings or is that no good.
The dual pull down screens are these ones from AKIA: amzn.to/4dvZtzQ When tested vs the Nexigo the Nexigo was on the Formovie Fresnel 100" and the X500i was on this 100" fixed frame from Silver Ticket: amzn.to/4bfXSN1
Great video, as always. Have you tested the BenQ TH685? It seems like a good deal for 120Hz and 8 ms response time, but I'm not sure about the contrast ratio and color accuracy.
Hi, how does something like the X500i stack up against the Hisense C1? I guess similar brightness, better colour due to triple laser but better contrast on the BenQ ? Just wondered which you'd choose for picture quality.
@@TheHookUp thank you, much appreciated hard to tell due to the red shift and RUclips compression but presumably the black level on the X500i is a lot better than the C1 in person ?
When the x500i is on its quitest setting , eco , 1080p etc is it as quiet as most other pj's,? It's throw works for me and I only watch movies in 1080p
Which Xbox were you using for the test? I haven't played with too much of the picture settings on the Series X, but I'm curious if it's better processing would change the results.
@@TheHookUp Hi❣ Please, if I ask for your help in choosing the appropriate projector, will you help me or are you unable to do so due to other matters related to you? I apologize for disturbing you
Got the BenQ x500i yesterday, and the noise is killing me. I don't know if I got a faulty unit, but I measure around 50 dB in 1080p (XPR motor off), and Eco mode only reduces it to 47 dB. Still, this is way too loud to enjoy this projector. It's really unfortunate because other than that, it's perfect. The picture quality is great, the speakers are amazing for a projector (I need my bass!), and the design is nice. But the noise... It's the third projector I tested on this journey (the others being Xgimi Horizon Pro and JMGO N1). I had really high hopes and didn't want to blow my budget even further, but according to countless reviews and in particular videos on this channel, it might be the Nexigo Aurora Pro. I need this thing ceiling mounted, though... Anyone has similar "problems"? Thanks for the amazing review. I think I've watched it a dozen times. 🤣 Edit: Here's a clip with the noise in different modes and resolutions. ruclips.net/video/P2RbAmOulIY/видео.htmlsi=qQRT9Tru45lN0leE Hope it helps!
Where/what distance are you measuring the noise from? Is it fan noise? With the XPR motor off my X500i is very similar in noise to most other projectors on the market.
@@TheHookUp Wow, thanks so much for your response! I am measuring directly on top of the projector, but honestly, even 3 feet away, it's very noticeable. It's a whirring noise, similar to the XPR motor, but just a bit less loud. So, it does NOT sound like a fan to me; fans sound more "windy," and I could totally live with that. This whirring/buzzing is unbearable. The package was sealed, so I don't think the projector was used. Do you still think I should replace it before buying another model? I am considering the X3100i before stretching my budget even further for the Nexigo (apart from the ceiling-mounting issue with a UST), but I've read similar whirring/buzzing issues about that model on Reddit. Is getting a quiet model like a lottery? Thanks again for your quick response. Really appreciate it!
Okay, now it's getting weird. I connected my laptop via HDMI, and if I set the resolution to 1080p 60Hz, the XPR motor is turned on. Switching to 1080p 240Hz, it's off again. I'm confused. What's going on here?! 😅
Both the x3100i and x500i are RGBB LED projectors, so they are compatible with basically every screen type and unlike laser projectors will never show laser speckle.
Eh, not really. Golf sim projectors need a different subset of requirements, here are the golf sim projector cliffs notes: 1) Short throw is preferable for not casting shadows onto your impact screen. 2) Contrast and black floor do not matter since you'll be using them in a room with high ambient light (so you can see the golf ball). 3) Brightness and color do matter. 4) 1080p and WUXGA are good budget options, the 4K resolution upgrade is marginal since impact screens generally have heavy texture that will diminish the 4K clarity. 5) Most people will end up with DLP projectors, but if you want to use a rear mounted swing camera you should opt for a 3LCD option (usually from Epson or Panasonic) instead because your swing camera will show all the rainbows from the DLP. 6) Input lag has no effect in a golf sim. Launch monitors have lag times between 500-2000ms, so adding a fraction of a second more from the projector makes no difference. I've used a bunch of projectors in my sim, but have currently settled on the BENQ LK936ST that I bought for two main reasons: 1) It's designed to be extra dust proof and temperature tolerant, which is important since my sim is in my garage. 2) I use a nearly 1:1 aspect ratio, so with a 1080p projector (BENQ 671ST) I was losing a significant amount of resolution to the strange aspect ratio.
Hi thanks for the great video it led to me purchasing the X500i. Just a question when you mention dynamic black mode how is that enabled? Or is it just enabled when the light setting is set to dynamic and not eco? Many thanks !
I actually did a side by side but didn't include it in the video. The X500i is MUCH more color accurate if that's something you're interested in. The C1 is much more vibrant and punchy, but not necessarily true to the source video.
@@TheHookUp Hi Robert, I was wondering if there's any place to see the side-by-side comparison between the X500I and the C1, I have the same dilemma and it would definitely help :)

@@TheHookUp I actually think I'll go for X500i, I think the short-throw is a the deal-breaker to me as I have around 100 inches from mount to wall in my bedroom and the quality seem pretty much on-par between the two :)
Did you notice any short throw artifacts with the BenQ/Viewsonic short throw projectors? Focus uniformity (can't get all 4 corners and middle focused) and/or barrel distortion? (sides of picture slightly curved?)
Nope, the short throws were nice and sharp. As long as you can set your projector up to use without keystone and you're projecting onto a a screen without waves you will not notice any significant differences based on throw ratio.
Have you tested projector stacking, where you use two projectors to produce the image? always wondered how two cheaper projectors compared to a higher priced projector. It may not be worth the hassle to line the two images up but its something i've always wanted to see. like two Paris Rhone 4ks vs a C1 or formovie X5 or Horizon pro.
Hello, in a few of the projectors I used, dust particles were coming onto the image I was watching. I am obsessed with dust, is there a model or anything you can recommend me? It is said that DLP panels are better than LCD, I am very obsessed with this dust issue haha :) I would be very happy if you answer
I was thinking of buying an Epson CO FH02, 3LCD technology, but I think dust will get in because it is LCD. Is there a model you can recommend? It could be 1080p. I think a DLP model will be better for me.And thank you so much for the answer
To be blunt the CO FH02 is garbage. It has extremely poor contrast and a non-replaceable bulb that will only give you 2000-3000 hours before you start seeing significant degradation. How much ambient light do you have in your viewing environment?
This review was fantastic, your breakdown of the technology and the fact you put the camera on the rail and slid it to show the rainbow effect was absolteIy brilliant. I know this is probably super niche but I am in the process of looking for a good projector specifically for 3D. I've watched about 8 of your videos so far. My budget is around $1000 but I am ok with a used unit. Currently I'm leaning towards the XGIMI Horizon Pro but I know that it has contrast issues based on your other fantastic reviews. Also I don't need the 4k, and although I like the increase lifespan of laser and led backlights, they aren't strictly a requirement. I doubt anyone else really cares about 3D, but seeing as the only current official offers that support 3D are projectors, and searching for "best 3d projector" gives one AI generated garbage videos/websites. Perhaps you might get some results with a short 2-3 minute video. I very much appreciated your addition of information about which projectors support 3d on the spec intro for each projector, it was helpful :)
XGIMI Horizon Ultra is the best 3D experience I've ever had. I am not super sensitive to RBE, but I see lots of "flicker" in some 3D projectors. Horizon Ultra had no flicker and was an overall excellent experience. Black levels leave something to be desired, but 3D tends to darken things significantly anyways. I know you said your budget was around $1000, but if you've got a little stretch I don't think you'd regret it if 3D is a big selling point for you. Otherwise I'd wait because there are a bunch of new lifestyle projectors coming out this year so we'll probably see some good price cuts on existing models.
@@TheHookUp Wow!!! Thanks so much for your reply! I will review your videos concerning the XGIMI Horizon Ultra vs the XGIMI Horizon Pro. Perhaps there is sufficient difference to justify the cost. I can get the XGIMI Horizon Pro relatively cheap used where I am $700. Also I was looking most recently at the OPTIMA GT3500HDR which is the new laser variant of the OPTIMA GT5600 UST projector. The GT3500HDRseems to be on sale for $1275 on Amazon sometimes according to some posts online, meanwhile the GT5600 can be bought for $600 on ebay. I don't need 4k so the 1080p projectors seem to make a degree of sense. EDIT: One other thing you could add in addition to if a projector supports 3d on the spec page is perhaps at what refresh rate it natively supports it, 120 / 144 are the most common these days it seems. You can measure this pretty easily with a photo diode (or probably some of the other gear you have).
Hello, great job. Can you recommend me what to choose? BenQ x500i or maybe BenQ x3000i. You have tested both, so I am asking for advice. I can have both at the same price. I have no problems with assembly. I only care about good black levels and good contrast. It will be used mainly for movies. I have a gray roll-out screen with a gain of 0.8, 108 inches, 45 cm from the ceiling and I can watch from a distance of 2.90 cm in an ordinary small living room, where I can make it completely dark, but the ceiling is white with black elements. Black and white furniture, white TV shelf under the TV/screen, gray floor, mostly gray walls and a black sofa. Thank you very much for your answer.
@@TheHookUpWelcome back. He has one last question. I am considering purchasing one of these 3 projector. Benq x500i or hisense c1 or Jmgo N1S ultra. The installation will be stationary on the ceiling. The screen is 127 inches, usually a gray canvas with a gain of 0.8, and the room is an ordinary living room, not specifically adapted to the cinema, but with the possibility of completely darkening the incoming light. I care about a good black level and contrast, but also visible HDR effects. It will be connected to nvidia shield pro and used for 85% streaming movies/series and 15% gaming. Which of these 3 do you think will be the best and will give me good black, contrast and hdr. Thank you very much for your advice
@@adiczub12345 x500i will have the best black levels, N1S will have the best HDR effects. If your gray screen is very smooth/glossy you may have issues with laser speckle with the JMGO.
Great review and comparison video. I was waiting with anticipation for your review of the BenQ X500i, thank you. I appreciate it very much. I noticed a kind of green tint towards the end of the video on the golfer and I guess the overall image. Is there any reason for this and could be a negative with the x500i?
Thank you for the informative reply. I was really worried that this projector would have a persistent green tent over pretty much every image. I heard that it’s common for projectors that use a color wheel to suffer from this issue.
Pretty much all RGB projectors will green shift when set to their brightest mode, that's because green is the brightest of all of the individual colors, so if you turn all the colors to max the green will be oversaturated.
I don't think there's enough interest to warrant that, but here are the cliffs notes: 1) Short throw is preferable for not casting shadows onto your impact screen. 2) Contrast and black floor do not matter since you'll be using them in a room with high ambient light (so you can see the golf ball). 3) Brightness and color do matter. 4) 1080p and WUXGA are good budget options, the 4K resolution upgrade is marginal since impact screens generally have heavy texture that will prevent the 4K clarity. 5) Most people will end up with DLP projectors, but if you want to use a rear mounted swing camera you should opt for a 3LCD option (usually from Epson or Panasonic) instead because your swing camera will show all the rainbows from the DLP. I've used a bunch of projectors in my sim. I currently have a BENQ LK936ST that I bought for two main reasons: 1) It's designed to be extra dust proof and temperature tolerant, which is important since my sim is in my garage. 2) I use a nearly 1:1 aspect ratio, so with a 1080p projector (BENQ 671ST) I was losing a significant amount of resolution to the strange aspect ratio.
It was a great video. I am Japanese and was looking for a detailed comparison video of projectors but could not find one, and when I was having trouble I came across this video. It is a very detailed and easy to understand video. Thank you very much. After watching some of your videos, I am thinking of buying x2-4k or mars pro. I also want to play games on the projector. So I have a question: the mars pro has a game mode, but is the delay actually so bad that it interferes with play? Also, the x2-4k seems great with less latency, but is it inferior in terms of image beauty? I am not sure whether to prioritize the delay or the image. Which would you recommend?
Don't go with the mars pro, as the latency is very high... Based on budget, you shall decide nomvdic p1000 < x2 < x500i.. i would personally go with x2, as the price difference between x500i and x2 is around 65000 Yen... P1000 is 20% less color accurate and less brighter compared to x2 and x500i..
Unfortunately no such thing as budget ultra bright. Best option to go to ebay and search “large venue projector” and find one from barco, christie, or panasonic with low hours.
@TheHookUp I am planning to buy Xgimi Horizon 1080p version. Can you please suggest if it’s a good choice considering it’s been three years since the release and I am not sure of any other options.
@@TheHookUp I am ok to work till 900. However, it needs to be available in UK market. I was interested in dangbei 1080p projector but the service is not available in UK. Also the communication for any services is through email only.
@TheHookup - Thanks so much for these videos, they really help. I'm stuck with a need for a (traditional) short throw projector @ 7ft distance x 120'' screen - I'll use is for movies and TV, not so much gaming and it'll be in a finished basement w/low (though not zero) ambient light. The need for REGULAR short throw, really limits my options. Trying to be under $3k on the budget, and I see a lot of these "gaming projectors". My biggest concern is image quality. I think I'm down to this x500i and the just released TK710Sti (which has friggin' lasers!) - but will a "gaming" projector work well for my needs? Any other standard short throw options I'm missing? (I'm coming from a 12 year old 720p Benq W710ST, so I'm sure just about anything is an upgrade.)
The X500i is an excellent movie watching projector with the one exception that it doesn't have MEMC (if that's something you're into). The color accuracy, contrast, and clarity are the best you can get at that budget. I don't have a 710STi yet, but I should have one to review in the next month or two.
Hi, I have the LX700-4K at home and my Problem is that I can not disable the HDR mode/profile in the projector settings. All modes besides HDR are greyed out, even if I disable HDR at the output device. Is that normal?
You'll need to disable HDR on your computer. There are a few things to try: 1. If you're using an RTX card you'll need to go to NVIDIA Control Panel > Adjust video image settings > RTX Video Enhancement - then disable HDR. 2. If that doesn't work try enabling HDR in NVIDIA control panel, hit apply, then go back to windows display settings and disable HDR there. 3. Last thing to try if those don't work, under "resolution" in the nvidia control panel try using custom color settings with "limited" for "output dynamic range":
Hi I just bought a alr vividstorm 120 screen would this work with short projector or can only be used long throw only, I’m finding it hard to find information on short throw projector and what projector screen to use for short throw projectors
@@TheHookUp Hi thanks for replying back Yeah it’s an VIVIDSTORM S ALR Motorized Tension Floor Rising Obsidian Long Throw ALR Projector Screen 120 inch.. I keep seeing people using Benq x500i and the TK710STi With a similar screen to what I ordered but I’m under impression them projectors shouldn’t be used with that type of projector screen. I’ve been looking at the benq x31000i,, I know that projector is perfect for my screen but if I could go short throw instead of long throw I would. Once I know that screen I ordered could possibly work. If not I’ll just go long throw
@@uapsocietyireland7514 the only projector type you'll want to avoid with that screen is a tri-laser or RGB laser. That screen tends to make laser speckle very noticeable. A short throw (not ultra short throw) projector will work fine with that screen.
Laser is definitely more vibrant, and side by side the C1 is more "punchy" than the X500i, but the X500i is quite a bit more true to source and color accurate.
Depends. If you want a "wow" experience with colors that pop off the screen and dolby vision support go with the C1. If you want a true-to-source very accurate picture with good black levels go for the x500i.

WOW was wondering if you were going to do a gaming projector review and .... You KILLED it! Thank you, I feel like this video simply explains which projectors are good for my scenarios and my budget!
Ludicrously thorough - and on relevant topics. *Thee* gold standard for not just tech reviews, but all reviews. Kudos!
These brightness claims are basically worthless... Luckily people like you properly test them!
Especially it's the contrast where it's at... The ANSI contrast test(black and white checkerboard) usually slaughters projectors, you won't find models that have above 1000:1 contrast
They always have been for basically any consumer product, but projectors are an extreme example.
The Ben Q and Viewsonic still destroy the amazon projectors. Most of thse are only 200. To 300 Ansi Lumens.
Wow, that was truly in depth, you really know your stuff. Ive been into projectors for decades, and always knew how good dlps were, but still didn't know all the nooks and crannies etc e.g. the difference between a 0.65 inch chip and 0.45 chip... Great video. 💪👌👍
Incredible. Just incredible. Amazing work. I was waiting for the gaming projectors comparison before buying. Thank you so much.

Nice work as always! I was waiting for this one to drop as I've been checking out the X1 and X2 4K and saw that you were going to do the shootout when you mentioned it over on AVS Forum. Looks like I'll be getting the BenQ i500 or X2!
Both great choices to be honest.
Not only an excellent video, but it's also showcasing HOTS gameplay? 11/10 video

I have a Viewsonic 4K projector for over 3 years. The movies and games look crazy at 120 inches Bright, sharp, colorful even with some light on. Has low input made for gaming. This projector destroyed my. Yaber, DBpower, Vankyo and other Amazon projectors I had.
I bought many different Projectors including Nexigo, Yaber , Optoma and many others over the years and the Viewsonic 701 is better then all of them.
@@tatsumaru12345px701 4K is a newer model. They Are reliable
All my life using internet this is the best review ever!
14:30 You wouldn't recommend the Nexigo at 1440@120 or 4k@120, does that also apply to PC gaming where 120 frames can be rendered at 1440p or 4k as opposed to the Xbox?
If I were using a PC I'd use 1080p120 or 240. Rendering 1440p with a pixel shifting projector is a little strange since the pixels are diagonal and overlapping rather than quads.
hello,
can the x2-4k mounthed on the ceiling if the throw distance is only 1,5m from the screen?
Just for you to understand:
I want to use the projector in my bedroom!
Im hasitating between these to projectors. x2 has nice black levels but the lx 700 has brightness, wich is need for 3d viewing(cause shutter glasses)
Also one question finaly: Has the lx 700 4k these weird colored reds? On my viewsonix px 701 4k the reds are kind a like orange. Explosions and flames looks off and weird.
THANK YOU!
For ceiling mount u better buy the X1-4K since it has 10% vertical lens shift
Hi
I have purchased Zebornics Pixaplay 28 & My doubt is that company mention 30,000hrs lamp life that is real or fake .
Most of Budget projectors mention high lamp life than expensive projector has less lamp life . Why?
That is a great comparision.. WIsh we had P2000UST from Nomvdic also to see how it goes against nexigo aurora pro.. Great vid Mate
I compared the Aurora Pro and P2000 in my last UST review: ruclips.net/video/Ef0tNjGDoOU/видео.html
What's the noise level of the x500i when doing 1440p@120hz and will there be any issues with the mirror splitting?
The noise level will be the same as 4k60hz because the XPR motor runs at that same frequency for 1440p120hz.
No issues mirroring as long as both displays support that output resolution and refresh rate.
I have a Nvidia Shield TV Pro and a older gaming PC for streaming and MKV movies. I game on Xbox series X. Is the BenQ still the top choice over the X2 if you don't use the built-in streaming dongle?
Yes.
(Side note: I was lead to use a short throw projector versus Ultra Short throw because of my fireplace blocking location of projector placement.)
Btw, Speakers have not been important to me, because I use a 7.2 Channel surround, but I would love to see a review video for ease of use for Bluetooth setups because I am interested in the cordless functionality.
Projector screen paint is on my short list of videos to make this summer.

2734lm in bright mode
1784lm in movie mode
1988lm in game mode
But can you still do 1440p 120Hz in the bright mode?
What’s the benq x500i compared to the valerion VisionMaster Pro2?
please tell gaming experience with paris rhone 4k 🙏or what’s best gaming projector in that price range ❤
Paris Rhone is a single LCD projector, so motion smearing will be severe. Under $800 options are very limited.
You gained a new follower😊😊
If watching with the lights off that's plenty of brightness.
Tell me, please. What does SDR Accuracy dE mean?
And how bad is it that the value for viewsonicLX700 is 10.6?
Im looking for a bright projetor to use outside for mostly watching sports. Recommendations?
I haven't tested the UHD55 so I can't really comment, but the X500i is better than the UHZ50 which I have tested.
Bought the Benq TH575 after returning a couple cheapo projectors. Great image and decent brightness. Super low input lag. $650 Canadian.
The LX-700 looks like the best bang for the bucks. I need a bit of vertical lens shift and a bright projector for some daylight football content
Hi, out of interest how does the x500i compare to the p1000? As they both use the 0.65" chip and seem to be relatively noisy, wondered how the brightness / general picture compares? Thanks
x500i is significantly better when it comes to picture quality, the noise of the XPR motor is about the same between the two.

How do you think the BenQ X500i compares to the Hisense C1?
Which would you choose out of these two?
The X500i is MUCH more color accurate if that's something you're interested in. The C1 is much more vibrant and punchy, but not necessarily true to the source video. I did do a side by side here: ruclips.net/video/qQ5j7R9nQdc/видео.html
The C1 is a little more red shifted in this video than in real life due to the tri-laser. I usually do an eye-match (perceptual match) using my calibrated monitor during testing, but didn't do that for this clip.
@@TheHookUp that’s great thank you!
Does either perform better in lighter settings than the other?
Yes, C1 will be slightly better in a non-light-controlled environment, but I think if that's what you're looking for the Formovie X5 is a better pick.

I want buy viewsonic lx 700, but heard about the poor colour calibration from the factory and don't understand, Is it possible to use it on the default settings or is that no good.
I did not calibrate these projectors for the video. They were all used in their most color accurate mode for testing, which was Movie for the LX700.

@@SerheoReutty Correct, I think it's called "constant power" on the LX700, set to 100%.

Have you tested the BenQ TH685? It seems like a good deal for 120Hz and 8 ms response time, but I'm not sure about the contrast ratio and color accuracy.

@LinguaLadder yes. Black level is lower on the x500i, overall brightness is slightly higher on the c1.
When the x500i is on its quitest setting , eco , 1080p etc is it as quiet as most other pj's,?
It's throw works for me and I only watch movies in 1080p
It's very quiet in 1080p mode. The fan is nice and quiet, but the XPR motor is loud.
Which Xbox were you using for the test? I haven't played with too much of the picture settings on the Series X, but I'm curious if it's better processing would change the results.
Both XBOX series support the same output refresh rates and resolutions, but the X can render games at higher quality. This was on an X.

Are you gonna do another UST Screen comparison sometime in the near future?
Yes, probably all Fresnel screens though.
Edit: Here's a clip with the noise in different modes and resolutions. ruclips.net/video/P2RbAmOulIY/видео.htmlsi=qQRT9Tru45lN0leE
Hope it helps!
Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update?
@@TheHookUp Unfortunately, there is no new firmware available. So I'm still at version 1.0.0.

Both the x3100i and x500i are RGBB LED projectors, so they are compatible with basically every screen type and unlike laser projectors will never show laser speckle.
@@TheHookUp thx for the quick response. great video made me decide to go for the x500i.
Hey would you recommend these style of projectors for a Golf Sim setup?
Eh, not really. Golf sim projectors need a different subset of requirements, here are the golf sim projector cliffs notes:
1) Short throw is preferable for not casting shadows onto your impact screen.
I've used a bunch of projectors in my sim, but have currently settled on the BENQ LK936ST that I bought for two main reasons:
1) It's designed to be extra dust proof and temperature tolerant, which is important since my sim is in my garage.
2) I use a nearly 1:1 aspect ratio, so with a 1080p projector (BENQ 671ST) I was losing a significant amount of resolution to the strange aspect ratio.
Thanks! Lots of info!
Was the Epson ls11000 in fast? (Instead of fine)
Yes.

Yes, light setting to dynamic

Did you notice any short throw artifacts with the BenQ/Viewsonic short throw projectors? Focus uniformity (can't get all 4 corners and middle focused) and/or barrel distortion? (sides of picture slightly curved?)
Nope, the short throws were nice and sharp. As long as you can set your projector up to use without keystone and you're projecting onto a a screen without waves you will not notice any significant differences based on throw ratio.
Thanks for the comparison.

It may not be worth the hassle to line the two images up but its something i've always wanted to see. like two Paris Rhone 4ks vs a C1 or formovie X5 or Horizon pro.
Definitely not worth the hassle.
Hello, in a few of the projectors I used, dust particles were coming onto the image I was watching. I am obsessed with dust, is there a model or anything you can recommend me? It is said that DLP panels are better than LCD, I am very obsessed with this dust issue haha :) I would be very happy if you answer
I assume you mean single LCD projectors? DLP projectors will not get dust onto their DMD, it's a sealed system.
@@TheHookUp I have light-blocking curtains and I only watch at night. In short, I have a very dark environment.

You can measure this pretty easily with a photo diode (or probably some of the other gear you have).
can we get a comparison about xgimi or vidda vs benq or epson. I'm strogiling with xgimi RS 10 Ultra CE and Epson TW 7400 and vidda c2u.

That was in "Bright" picture mode, there is definitely a green tint in "Bright". The movie and game modes are significantly more color accurate.

Does X500i support 3d movies?
Yes

You'll need to disable HDR on your computer. There are a few things to try:

Laser is definitely more vibrant, and side by side the C1 is more "punchy" than the X500i, but the X500i is quite a bit more true to source and color accurate.
@@TheHookUpHow do you feel the blacks levels compare?
@@guiltynessness8926 Black levels on the X500i are noticeably better.
I have the X3100i .. love it
is the contrast that bad? I was about to place an order
BenQ x500i or Hisense C1 for home theater?
Depends. If you want a "wow" experience with colors that pop off the screen and dolby vision support go with the C1. If you want a true-to-source very accurate picture with good black levels go for the x500i.
