The Valerion is giving you great contrast without a colour wheel. The better contrast USTs suffer from rainbow effect which, in my opinion, isn't worth it. That said the Valerion is made by AWOLs engineers and the Vision Pros have EBL. No idea if the performance difference is a better algorithm they could update the Visions too or if it's just better hardware that might be included in the upcoming Vision Max and they're just keeping quiet about that for now until they see how it performs here. So personally I'm waiting until the dust settles and the Vision Max is out and reviewed.
Valerion it is. Instead of the boxy "lifestyle" designs I hope they release a dedicated home theater design with a centered lens in the future and with even better native & dynamic contrast. Then call it the "Valerion Black Magic" line. EBL is Valerion's voodoo.
@The Hook Up You did an amazing job as always, thank you! Quick question, if the price is similar would you choose NexiGo TriVision Ultra or Formovie X5? I currently have Formovie S5 but it's time for an upgrade 🙂👍
I think the brightness test/comparison should only be done in the most color-accurate mode. Your D65 lumens and laser speckle comparisons are much appreciated. Thank you!
Had zero doubt that Valerion would come out on top in the end. So excited that I backed up the Vision Max for the early bird. Also, for those who backed it up, we get a chance to try out the Pro 2 for free while waiting for the Max to come out in May 2025. 🤩
@@brucesmith1754 They have to reach a 5 million goal by Kickstarter ends.... And then 500 people will be selected to try the pro2 until the max comes out in May hopefully. I got the email from them a couple of days ago explaining this
Thank you so much Rob. After watching other reviewers saying how good this projector is, I was still skeptical until now. Kickstarter order placed through your link above.
As usual! Awesome review. Does this mean that the Valerion Max will theoretically be a better projector than the nexigo Aurora pro in terms of picture quality, 3D and gaming? Thanks
Pretty sure it will be better in 3D since the Aurora pro has 2600 ANSI lumens and the valerion visionmaster pro/max both have 3000 ISO lumens, which translate to 3500 ANSI lumens. For 3D, the more usable brightness, the better the experience.
Been waiting for this review for ages to the point I watched it on my Apple Vision Pro to see the maximum details possible of it in 4K and decide accordingly lol. I will still stick with Valerion Pre Order but that C2 Ultra looked to me the best and I don't know why, something about it's colors gives it more details, although Dolby Vision seemed broken but to me it's not a deal breaker as HDR and Imax enhanced more important to me. I decided to go Grey screen instead of Fresnel or ALR or White this time, I know alot will say White is best to me that's 2010 answer, currently there's really good screens out there. Overall amazing review as always infact best projectors review I have ever seen, straight to the point with facts and numbers to back them, it's a great time to buy a projector.
I was also waiting for this video! Thank you for placing the C1 against the Mars pro2 and thank you for including a Rainbox Effect and Laser Specle review also! great
excellent review as always! The one we have all been waiting for!! Can't wait for my Max now. But i think i would also be very happy with the Pro 2 at this point haha. The wait is gonna kill me :D Keep up the good work, mate.
Been on the 'hook' the past few months whether to go for Aurora Pro, or wait for PX3-PRO. Just pledged for Max which at Kickstarter price meets everything. Thank you for great work, kind sir!
Great comparison. I was only waiting for your review. In for a Valerion Pro2 absolutely nothing can touch it at this price break. Well maybe the Valerion Max. 😊
Heard a lot of noise about the Valerion and it seems like it's holding up. Kind of like how people who pre-ordered their Nexigo Aurora Pro's for $1700 when that showed up made the smart choice then, it seems like Valerion is the way to go.
Great job! Would you please give information on what settings are best for Valerion ? What is worth setting to make the image as accurate (or best ) as possible ?
Hi! Thanks for the great video! I bought a Hisense C1 early this year. Do you think it is worth upgrading to the Valerion Pro 2 and go through the hassle of selling the C1?
I would be curious to see how the Valerion compares with the UST Hisense PX3-Pro in a side-by-side comparison... I understand that the tech is different, but at the end of the day, which is better in both light and dark viewing conditions?
Great video! Was wondering how the nexigo trivision compares to the nexigo aurora pro (these two would be my options to buy). Either preorder 1099, or get the pro on black friday deal hopefully below 2000.
How does HDR10+ look on amazon prime on the Valerion Pro 2? Is the contrast as good as Dolby Vision on the Pro 2? On my Hisense px3 HDR10+ doesn't look as contrasty and I'm wondering if the problem is with HDR10+ or the hisense Px3?
I hope Valerion expands into Europe and we will see similar projectors around that 3k eur price range. My biggest problem is the lack of service network and parts for such projectors. It mops the floor with Epson, JVC, Sony and Optoma. But those brand are super dominant here and very easy to get.
I wonder in which place the Valerion Plus 2 would fall into among all these projectors. Your reviews are out of this world man. You’re truly the best. Keep up the exceptional work.
Thanks for this comparison. Given that in the UST comparison you recommended the Hisense Px3 Pro and here the Valerion, which one do you recommend for someone who has the flexibility of choosing one or the other adapting the room? Thanks PS just got an idea. What do you think about making a comparison video of the winner of each comparison category (ust, lifestyle, long throw..)? That would be fun..
Rob, thanks for this video, i was considering going with UST... but i didn't like the idea... was looking for normal distance throw... hope you earned those 5% via kickstarter link as they have another backer! Great job on your channel and comparisons! keep up the great work!
I had to chance to have a look at the Valerion during the IFA Berlin. It was just mind-blowing! I am not interested in a projector but if you are, it is a must-try!
Thank you so much for the video. Like many others was waiting patiently, as I feel your recommendation can be trusted 100%. Maybe I could ask one question towards the speakers of the Valerion. I read that it has Auto Acoustic Tuning Feature that uses its built-in microphones to run a sound test and automatically adjusts the audio parameters to suit your space. Did you had a chance to test that out? And did it make any noticeable difference? Yes Im on of the people who would just use the build in sound, as I move the projector quite frequently.
How does the Valerion as a lifestyle projector compare to classic projectors such as the Epson EH-LS12000B? What do you think of the image quality, brightness, color fidelity, etc.? Is the Valerion "a giant killer", or is it more on par?
"Classic" projectors are long (distance) throw to a screen. Lifestyles are just an evolution of those. All of the quality measurements are comparable and can be exceeded depending on which specific projector you're comparing .
please dont ever stop doing this...we love you and appreciate your professional and unbiased reviews. We just ordered the Valerion Max....which won't ship out unti around May...but we can't wait! We got in the kickstarter at the very beginning and really glad we did.
Is the epson eqipvision ef-22 significantly better than the outgoing ef-12? I'm looking for a decent first projector, and your videos have been so helpful!
This is the most waited review for 2024. No surprise on Valerion Pro 2 and it's using C2 Ultra hardware, just they manage to tweak the software to squeeze the performance out.
I bought the Dangbei MP 2, loving that thing. But you need enough space (fixed projection distance), and it does faaar better with bright content (animation, RUclips, reality TV, etc).
Ice hockey is actually relatively easy for any projector to do well, it's a very bright sport. Just make sure it's got decent MEMC and you've got good source content.
I just picked up the Hisense C2 ultra. I have a basic motorized 100 inch elite screen. Is there a specific screen material you would recommend to get the best black levels?
Hey Rob! Thanks again for this timely, highly anticipated review!! Im wondering if the lower priced XGMI Horizon S Pro and Valerion Plus would be a good value since they basically contain the same technology (minus the greater number of lumens) as their highly rated big brothers. Especially the Valerion Plus whose Kickstarter price is ballpark of the pre-order price of the Nexigo Trivision Ultra. 🙌
I haven’t tested the lower models so it’s hard to say. I’d guess the Valerion will have better contrast but the nexigo will have significantly higher brightness
Awesome. Unfortunately it seems none of these have lens shift, and I need that for my particular installation. In your opinion, is keystone correction a viable alternative for a permanent installation ? Last time I tried keystone, I can readily notice the degradation.
Just as everyone and you yourself already know it, I'll say it again: you are by far the most experienced and valuable expert for projectors. Big thanks for that! However, I'm stuck in a small luxury problem: I have a 65“ TV wall-mounted for daily viewing and searching for a floor rising screen + projector for watching movies, games, sports in dimmed/dark or little ambient light conditions in my living room. For me it would be possible to mount both an ultra-short throw projector or a normal projector on the ceiling. My main desire is a floor rising screen + projector of the best possible quality for the money. Would you say that a Valerion Max/Pro 2 + Long Throw Floor Rising ALR (Cinegrey 4D, Vividstorm S) offers comparable quality in my use case compared to a Nexigo Aurora Pro + UST ALR screen? What would be your advice? Do you know whether some other maybe cheaper ALR floor-up screens will be coming out soon? Or whether Valerion or Awol will release a new UST with EBL technology or update their existing USTs with the EBL? Thank you in advance and for your effort!
How does older model compare to these new ones? Hisense C1 vs C2? When new models come you can get really good deals on the older ones. Sweet spot to the price might be found there better than in among the newest models.
Does anyone know if the Vaerion & nexigo would be available with an Australian wall plugs? I want to order but there is no option for different wall plugs
Awesome comparison review as always. I remember you included a JVC projector in one of them and it would be awesome if you could do it in every projector review, as a reference. It doesn't have to be their latest budget alternative (JVC DLA-NZ500). The JVC DLA-NP5 would be sufficient as the price for a used unit on ebay is $3K
Brilliant! Tested, succinct, with all the important criteria ranked against the correct brands. Thank you very much for this timely review especially for the kickstarters of the Valerian. Just curious do you think the valerian at the right angle would fair ok in daylight using a fresnel screen?
It will be better than espon offerigns including the new q1000b. And it does color reproduction that the JVC lineup simply can't touch. And it isn't so far off contrast wise making these big bucks projectors even less attractive price wise than they were before.
I have XW7000ES just waiting for my Home Cinema room to finish in 1 month time and expecting to receive also the Valerion during that time and will put it in my gaming room which is also light controlled but not fully fledged home theater room and will do comparison. But as far as I know someone tested it against JVC and it couldn't win however it was comparable and it was the only lifestyle projector that could compete
Shane Lee compared the lower model I believe against his JVC and he didn't even have it setup correctly from what I could tell. Even then in a side by side in dark scenes the JVC did have better shadow detail but honestly not by a lot. The performance on offer for the price here is insane.
Incredible review and glowing endorsemement for the Valerion even though I assume you make no commission on Kickstarter sales. Thank you for putting this amazingly comprehensive analysis and comparison out there while there's still time to purchase at the Kickstarter price 🎉
Amazing. Both the content as usual, and this seemingly once in a generation Valerion. It'll be my success to the Epson 9400 /6050 for price performance.
What makes a projector a "lifestyle" projector? I assume marketing nonsense that adds words to make a product more appealing? Anyway, I was looking for a projector so your timing is excellent and effort much appreciated!
"Lifestyle" projectors generally have a few characteristics in common: 1) More stylish looks, not white/black rectangles like typical home theater projectors, the idea is that they don't look as out of place in a living room. 2) Better built in speakers for people who want to use a projector without a separate sound system. 3) Higher performing auto focus and auto keystone to make it easier to set them up and take them down repeatedly.
@@TheHookUp Allright, thanks for the quick reply! I understand that there is a market for that specifically. In my current projector the auto keystone is the first thing I disabled. It makes it more work to set up but it is better for the picture... I do wish more projectors would offer lensshift but that is something I rarely see with projectors that are not intended for a dedicated fixed setup. Aside from that, these features are nice to have for what I intend to use it for: to bring with us on holidays. Bringing a projector on holiday at first seemed a bit excessive but turned out to be really nice. We no longer have to squint at a tiny tv in the opposite corner of a hotel or appartement room
You can buy Hisense C2 pro which is a C2 ultra minus the subwoofer for $1000 from China. at this price point it beats everything, you should compare with the JMGO N3 Ultra instead of last gen N1S.
I think the valerion's key feature is EBL/laser dimming. If Plus 2 is enough brightness for you it will probably be better, but TriVision ultra will have higher usable lumens.
Finaly all wait was over . now the only concern is After sales service , longetivity, and brand backup. i think ,as far as global concern. Valerian is sure on top but very closely follwed by hisense c2 ultra. just lack of 24p. But as far as long term investment goes . we can trust hisense any day over valerian. due to its brand and global presence. specialy in far away regions.
@@nanfad X500i doesn't have a similar form factor at all, it looks like a traditional projector (a large white box). X3100i is also not good at all compared to these. It's 900/1500 native/dynamic contrast. X500i and TK710STi would be decent comparisons.
How do these compare to a standard (or even short throw) projector? For example: Say someone had a 100+in hole in their heart (wall) that they wanted to fill with *any* projector for $2-4k. What would they pick? For just picture quality (ignore ambient light or space for now). Like, is this projector as good as an Epson LS12000?

Incredible work! Hats off!
Man, it's a little surreal to see you so whole-heartedly recommending one single product.
It felt a bit odd, the Valerion is indeed really really good.
I haven't seen the Valerion Fresnel.
Great review, Where do you think the Valerion VisionMaster Pro 2 falls in between non-lifestyle projectors?
Valerion is offering a similar commission to Amazon through Kickbooster.
Peace be with you! Thank you for this comprehensive projector review.
i've been waiting for this video for so long 😂
"Lifestyle" projectors generally have a few characteristics in common:
1) More stylish looks, not white/black rectangles like typical home theater projectors, the idea is that they don't look as out of place in a living room.
Can I buy the Valerion pro 2 in the UK or is it an American product only?
I believe you can get it everywhere.
Did you get the projector from there website or did you get it somewhere else?
You can buy Hisense C2 pro which is a C2 ultra minus the subwoofer for $1000 from China. at this price point it beats everything, you should compare with the JMGO N3 Ultra instead of last gen N1S.
N3 does not have a global release. N1S ultimate is the current flagship.
Hi Rob! Do you think the Nexigo Trivision Ultra would be better than the Valerion Plus 2 ?
I think the valerion's key feature is EBL/laser dimming. If Plus 2 is enough brightness for you it will probably be better, but TriVision ultra will have higher usable lumens.
Finaly all wait was over . now the only concern is After sales service , longetivity, and brand backup.
i think ,as far as global concern.
Valerian is sure on top but very closely follwed by hisense c2 ultra. just lack of 24p.
But as far as long term investment goes . we can trust hisense any day over valerian. due to its brand and global presence. specialy in far away regions.
Great review. With the Pro2, the lumens the same in HDR mode with P3 colors or BT2020?
Yes.
How do you ceiling mount the Hisense if the gimbal can’t come off?
The middle of the gimbal has a 1/4x20 mount, the gimbal stays on.
Dang, just ordered a BenQ TK710. This Valerion projector looks very impressive and I didn’t know about it.
which screen did you use for test?
Why did you not include either of the benq Benq X500i or X3100i since they did so well in your last review as great all around projector?
Because they are not lifestyle projectors.
@TheHookUp they have the same form factor and similar pricing. How are they any different other than a lack of Dolby vision ?
I would guess it would outperform the LS12000, but I have not put them side by side.
