I am leaning towards buying an 1100u based on your review. I’d need to buy a different lens (.65 throw lens). How does a different lens change the brightness, picture quality, etc?
Great review, especially when you make the difference between the advertised Lumen and the usable Lumen for indoor golf BenQ AK700st should be launch soon. Looking forward to see how it compares to the TK710st
Thank you for showing how to create a custom resolution. My screen size is similar to yours. I was happy with the increased height of my Epson EX9220 WUXGA projector but now the screen is completely full.
Can you share more about the epson . Did yours come with the a short throw? Depending on how far one can shift the imagine left/right, I could put of this on a side wall and move the image back to the middle with the lens shift?
Another great video. Can’t wait to hear a more thorough analysis of the TK710. Sounds like they did a good job with it. I don’t have a sim setup, but see questions about them all the time. I’m feeling like it might be interesting to get a tech review of different software and limitations of popular stuff. I worry about aspect ratios, but it sounds like a decent computer may not have those issues at all. I know I saw some videos about different trackers at one point. Just not sure how the different software behaves. Keep up the great work! I think this will help a lot of people out. I do know when I was in Dick’s they had a similar setup and they used spotlights over the golfing area. While you mentioned lights some, it is important to mention that spotlights can put a lot of lighting onto the golfing area with very low impact on the screen area and provides an awesome solution to adding light to a specific area of a space.
In some of the shots you can see the pin light that I have over my hitting area. Getting a brighter projector was actually in large part to be able to not use the pin light since I find that it really distorts your view of the golf ball and can cause issues when playing outside if you get too used to playing on the sim. I did do a bit more cinema based analysis of the TK710STi here: ruclips.net/video/k9jJrHDZuA4/видео.html
Your videos sort of overwhelm and blow away the mind. So much info. I have watched a bunch of them and now I'm even more confused. Can you please help with a recommendation. Since I believe the Ultra Short throws are sort of out due to being in 'wedge' range danger (not far enough back from the wedge flop shots) I am left with finding a short throw choice I think. Here is my thing. I have a really hard time buying a projector for nearing that $2000 range to only be used in my garage on a golf sim. But here is the big thing. I don't want to hit balls in the dark! So I’m in a huge delema and I am completely overwelmed. First, I have no experience hiting on a sim at all. So I don’t really know anything about how dark the room would have to be to see the screen comfortably. I can absolutely see why you would want the L1100U. But I can’t afford that and I’m not sure the longer throw would suit anyway. I am in a garage and have about 18 feet and will be hitting from what seems to be a standardish 9-10’. I would like to have the brightest screen for quality but am totally confused. I am under the impression that the lumin rating is not the total brightness that is achieved. I think I understand that to be ANSI Lumins???? I’m also getting the impression that I would need to have at least 3000 Ansi Lumins to be bright enough in a lite room and suitable for a good viewing experience??? Why is it that on RUclips most of the golf sims folks are pushing the BenQ… Is it only due to marketing or for the price is that the best bet for me? No pun intended…. Can you shed some light on this a bit for me please. What do you think the best projector would be for someone that wants some lights left on for under (or not much above) $2000. I have gotten too overwelmed to think straight about it so please help.
Great video. Re: Epson 1100u - 1. as an lcd replacement for the lk936st, could you just make sure it has a short zoom lens (ceiling mounted)? and 2. do you have thoughts on similar models like the L1200u if the L1100u isn't available?
As noted at 18:00 the stock lens is 1.4:1 throw ratio, there are many optional lenses available, I used the ELPLU04 to make it a short throw. L1200U is even better than the L1100U.
@@TheHookUp So, if I found one with the ELPLU04 or *03 - you would recommend over the LK936st mounted overhead (for reasons mentioned) to void shadows (left/right handed play). Do you have any feedback for the 1100u for watching sports, movies etc.?
I’ve been very happy with my switch to the l1100u. Motion handling isn’t as good as the DLP benq, which is to be expected, so football won’t be as good on the epson.
Awesome stuff, as always! I have a skytrak and currently just hit into a net and use an ipad for the data. I only have room for 6 feet max from the ball to the net. I'd love to get a screen and projector, but I feel like at that distance the perspective would be too close (most recommendations are 10-11 ft). Curious on your thoughts on this. Thanks!
Great review, especially love the side-by-side with different sim lighting. I currently have a benq th671st and am looking at the tk710sti. I am not happy with the brightness of the th671st. Projector central is saying the tk710sti will be twice as bright as the th671st for my screen size (14fL vs 7fL). Is this a noticeable difference?
Thanks for this fantastic comparison video. As a projector that a lot of sim enthusiasts had high hopes for, the overall performance of the new BenQ AH700ST seems disappointing. BenQ is expected to release a 4k version of this projector (AK700ST) sometime in 2025 Q1; given that, outside of resolution, most of the specs seem to be identical, do you expect the 4k version to suffer from the same issues?
Hey great video, would you have any advice on buying a 2nd hand benq LK953st with 270 hours , my screen size is 7ft high x 10ft wide and hitting position is 10ft back, or should I purchase a new benq TK710 sti ,, all help appreciated thank you
Hey, I ordered the Uneekor XO2 this morning. I have one more question to see what you think. I’ve looked at the projectors you reviewed and It looks like my budget is between 1500 and maybe up to 2000 for the projector. My question is, if I’m not going with the super high end projector ($3-5k price range) can I get away with using an i5 instead of a i7 Intel processor?. If I can use the i5 that will save me some money on the computer and I can get the Higher and projector. Thoughts?
A very comprehensive and useful video. Regarding the TK710STI, I would need to set it at a 1:1 ratio for a 7ft x 7ft screen in my small space. Is it easy enough to achieve a distortion free image? The AH700ST can do this on the projector, but as you point out, it is 1080p and less good value (more expensive in the UK!).
This is legitimately one of the best H2H tests I've ever seen. I was looking for reviews of slightly different projectors (Optoma 1080/1090/2000/2100), but this has given me an arsenal of tools to help make my decision. The question: I'm interested in the Optomas I listed above because my budget is limited and they seem to be good bang for buck in terms of brightness. My computer probably isn't good enough to output 4K anyway. Would you recommend leaning more into lumens vs resolution in my case?
@thehookup Is it possible to tune the colours on the AH700ST when in bright golf mode so they are more realistic? I’m trying to decide between the AH700ST and the TK710 - I’ll be projecting off to the side so the auto focus, short throw and auto image size is a plus on the AH700ST; however the 4K with TK710 and brighter image in normal mode is attractive
The way it can get so bright is by increasing the gain of each color to the max. Any adjustments to the color management system will result in lower brightness. I'd go with the TK710.
I looked through your channel a bit and have watched alot of your projector videos, but one thing i dont see (unless i missed it is just plain old projector screens! I saw the paint screens and ust screens, but is there a method for picking normal projection screens?
During your research, were there any sub-$500 used options that you came across that grabbed your attention? I'm looking for something to fill out my 4:3 - 140" diag screen from 5ft-12ft away, if possible. There are just so many options out there and it's completely overwhelming me. Thanks!
Really great info! I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on floor mounting the projector (assuming adequate protective enclosure). This seems like a viable option to eliminate shadows and the potential for an accidental club strike overhead. Appreciate your advice!
Most people I have talked to who have floor mounted have eventually switched to ceiling mount. Having a projector directly in front of you is 10x more distracting than any shadows.
Great content. I had been leaning towards the LK936ST for a simulator / home theatre setup I'm building. Given the points you made on throw ratio and noise I'm thinking of the TK710STi. as an aside I'm not worried about too much ambient light in my setup and I can mount it directly in center of the room with no need for much lens shift If you were to ignore the cost difference - which would you choose for a combo home theatre / sim setup? or another model?
Unfortunately there are not any decent projectors for golf sims under $250. They are simply not bright enough. Best option is to try to find a used WXGA classroom projector on ebay.
Curious to hear your thoughts on the ah700st vs tk710sti. The lumens on paper have a solid gap and I was considering dropping to 1080p for the extra output. It appears from your test there isn't much of a difference when tested. Maybe another video? I feel like that price point is what a major portion of sim users would be targeting without buying a base model to get them start to save initial costs
The additional lumens of the AH700 are only available in the very color inaccurate “bright” picture mode. If the aspect ratio auto edid isn’t important to you I’d recommend the tk710sti.
You said "resolution doesnt have as large of an impact as you would expect. Im trying to decide between a 4k and a wuxga, how big of a difference ahould i expect? The wuxga is about 1000 lumens brighter.
@the hook up any predictions on when we can expect a 120hz true gaming 4k projector? Sub 10ms ideally, ls12000 closest but latency kills it. Their sequels are hilarious and will sell single digits.
The issue with the Epson's is actually LCD motion blur, Gray to Gray times on those LCDs is terrible when compared to DLP. Unfortunately, I think it's going to be quite a white until we see native 4K DMDs make it to even mildly affordable projectors. I think the most likely path will be if they can get the 0.66" DMD to 240hz (it currently does 4K with 2x shifts with a 2716x1528 native resolution), that would allow it to do 4k120hz and 1440p240hz.
Awesome video. Huge help. I am getting "custom resolution not supported by your display" error when I try to Test the new resolution setting I entered for the TK710sti: 2360x2160. Any clue how to fix it?
@@TheHookUp I was mirroring my 4k laptop to the tk710sti and then trying to adjust the horizontal resolution to the calculated number of 2360 as shown in your video.
Try selecting "Extend my desktop" for the 710STi and then set the custom resolution. Also make sure that you weren't trying to set a refresh rate greater than 60hz.

Im mind blown that you went with the epson over the lk936! Im going to have to watch yhe video again on a larger screen. Cant beat the price of the used epson though!
Can you review new projectors for home cinema just like you did few months back. Since new projectors are coming every couple of months, your reviews helps alot
I have one more question since youre the expert! I currently have a viewsonic p748 4k projector in my garage golf sim... Do you think yhe benq tk710sti would be an improvement? I looked around for the lamp for your epson and they are really hard to come by so im trying to find the next best thing but i dont have benq 936 money lol. I apprecaite your thoughts
The lamp or the lens? I'm not sure the 710 would be much of an upgrade from the 748 in terms of brightness. Colors would be better for sure, but that's about it.
@@TheHookUp thanks I appreciate the advice. I can't find the short throw lens anywhere, but I have found the projector used on eBay. The standard throw lens wouldn't work for my setup . As for the colours being better thats just the accuracy and not necessarily a crisper picture, right?
Hello! I am undecided whether to buy an Optoma UHZ50 or an XGIMI Horizon Ultra. I have a PS5 and I use it a lot, and I want to watch movies in native 4k. I have a Bosse 900 sound bar with Dobly Atmos and I don't know which of the two projectors works better with this sound. Which one do you suggest I buy?
@@TheHookUp These are two projectors that they offer me in stock and that fit my budget of 2,000usd. I actually need to connect my PS5 and I don't know how to do it...
Sorry for my English, I'm from Argentina, I just wanted you to tell me which of the two projectors you think is better for someone who uses the PS5 a lot and wants to enjoy movies in native 4k
I have been trying to decide on my golf sim projector. The BenQ 710Sti has been on my short list, but now you have me thinking about the Epson L1100U at the used price point. My biggest concern is the native resolution is not 4k. Is this noticeable? Also, how do I know if I need a short throw lens? My screen is around 14' x 8.5' viewable dimensions. My ceiling is 9'3" and I have 25' of room. Looking for optimal settings and the best projector for me sub $2k. Also, I have total control of the lighting so lumens may not be the most important factor. Thanks for any help and I really appreciate your videos. Subscribing!
I feel like almost all of those questions are specifically addressed in the video. 1. You can see in the resolution section there is almost no difference in clarity between a high quality WUXGA display and 4K 2. You know if you need a short throw lens by doing your screen calculation. If your screen is 8.5' (102") tall then your 16:10 width is 181" and if your ceilings are only 9'3" you're going to want to mount your projector very close to your hitting area to avoid shadows. So assuming you are 12' (144") away from your screen (half the room) you'd need a 0.79 throw ratio. Meaning even the short throw lens of the L1100U wouldn't be short enough and you'd need to mount the projector at 158" from the screen. 3. Lumens are always important because even if you can control the lighting in the room completely (like a garage), you don't want to golf in complete darkness.
Couldn't find it in stock anywhere when I was buying projectors for this video. I was also more interested in LG's 3LCD projectors, but that one is DLP.
The cheapest is probably the EF12 from this video. Trilaser is better in the sense that the color gamut is higher. A single laser works very similarly to a traditional bulb projector except instead of a bulb there's a laser diode array.

@@TheHookUp Okay, thank you!
Any recommendations for a projector around the 1300-1800 USD mark?
I've watched a ton of your videos, which was how I came to the hisense c1 based off one of the comparisons. Thanks in advance!
lol, I have to say, Love the content, but damn dude.... your the only only one that speaks so clearly but sooooo FAST. I actually had to slow the video down, watch it multiple times and use pause every time. A lot of info! That now leaves me even more confused. Too many people on youtube are enthusiastic but I just don't think they portray the units with the facts as you do. My problem is that I want the brightness of the Epson model but really want it to be short throw. I don't really want to hit in the dark! I want much more ambient light. Plus I can't see spending more that 2000 on one. Decisions depressions!!!
You should do more Golf Simulator content!!!!!! 👍🏼
I wish, the RUclips algorithm doesn't think so unfortunately.
Does that epson you’re now using come with a remote? I couldn’t tell by the eBay listings.
Some do, mine did not. I’m not planning on using a remote though because it has home assistant integration and a good ip (web) based remote.
@@TheHookUp oh nice, in my garage I couldn’t easily reach the power button without getting a ladder each time so a remote would be nice…seems I will now check into the method you’re using. Thanks again for doing all of this work and sharing your findings.
Have you checked out the BenQ x300g yet? I expected to see it in your gaming projector video
That one will be in my lifestyle projector video in early October.
What’s the standard lens in the Epson Pro L1100U? All I see online is “standard lens” so not sure if that’s the short throw one.
Standard lens is the ELPLM08 which is 1.4-2.2 throw ratio.
@@TheHookUp So are you saying that the standard lens is the one you need for a golf Sim setup?
@@Golfitti19 No, the short throw one is more suitable for a golf sim, the ELPLU04
Im mind blown that you went with the epson over the lk936! Im going to have to watch yhe video again on a larger screen. Cant beat the price of the used epson though!
No regrets, the L1100U is really nice and SUPER bright.
@@TheHookUp I've started my search for this unit lol
Can you review new projectors for home cinema just like you did few months back. Since new projectors are coming every couple of months, your reviews helps alot
Lifestyle projector update coming in October (JMGO, Hisense, XGIMI, etc).
please make a video about best HDMI transmitters! Are they good for gaming like transmitting PC to projectors?
Are they good for gaming? Absolutely not. They will lower framerate and introduce input lag.
They would work well for a golf simulator though.
@@texasrangagolf Colors are generally more vibrant with a laser light source than they are with a bulb.
@@TheHookUp what would you recommend as a good improvement for my next projector?
What are your goals? What aren't you happy with about your current projector?
What made you narrow it down to those options? How are you planning on connecting the soundbar to your projector?
@@TheHookUp These are two projectors that they offer me in stock and that fit my budget of 2,000usd. I actually need to connect my PS5 and I don't know how to do it...
Sorry for my English, I'm from Argentina, I just wanted you to tell me which of the two projectors you think is better for someone who uses the PS5 a lot and wants to enjoy movies in native 4k
or which would be the best option for you from the projectors you know...
BENQ TK710 would be a good longer throw option, TK710STi is the short throw.
Both are great for gaming and have optical zoom.
1. You can see in the resolution section there is almost no difference in clarity between a high quality WUXGA display and 4K
@@TheHookUp Thank you very much for the lengthy reply. Appreciated.
Curious why you didnt try the lg bu53rg
Couldn't find it in stock anywhere when I was buying projectors for this video. I was also more interested in LG's 3LCD projectors, but that one is DLP.
Namaste from India. I am considering to buy haprun 12000L Model F5. Shall i get this or Haprun H1 please?
No, it's not good, I reviewed it here: ruclips.net/video/-gWIzxVptlE/видео.html
@@TheHookUpCan I get Haprun H1 or could you suggest the best available projectors in India, just need it for a small bedroom please 😊
Is benq tk710 good for home theatre use?
Yes.
Brilliant... Thx!
Do you have a video about just laser projectors?
What about them? Single lasers or trilaser?
@@TheHookUp what is the cheapest laser projector? And is trilaser better than single?
The cheapest is probably the EF12 from this video. Trilaser is better in the sense that the color gamut is higher. A single laser works very similarly to a traditional bulb projector except instead of a bulb there's a laser diode array.
@@TheHookUp what is the cheapest trilaser projector?
JMGO N1.
WHOA! I've gotta know more about that screen projected on your floor with swing replay stuff @6:44! I searched your channel and can't find a video on it, can you hook ME up? That looks like a great coaching tool to get instant feedback on my swing
Most of that will depend on your launch monitor. That screen is from Uneekor, you can do something similar with Rhapsodo MLM2Pro.
I have a DIY 10x8x5 simulator will 16:9 spect ratio
I want to do this, but with some firearm training software and a SERT gun.
That's actually a pretty common thing that people also do with their sims. "Laser Shot" is a pretty popular brand.
long-lifetime light source....
And when they die we're out $6000?
Or.......?
I wish I had a math degree so I could get something out of this video
This video was done in less than 30 days to ensure the $10,000 projector was returned to Amazon in time.
Ah yes, the $10,000 projector that I bought from eBay for $1200 was returned to Amazon. You got me.
None of these projectors are returned to Amazon (or any other retailer).
