  • In depth walkaround & history for a 1300 original mile 1991 Ferrari F40. Did you know the Ferrari 288 GTO Evo turned into the Ferrari F40?
The F40 Ferrari was produced from 1987 to 1992 to celebrate the company’s 40th birthday and build the ultimate supercar. It was originally commissioned to be built by the late Enzo Ferrari himself, it was to be his last great contribution to automotive world. He wanted a car that would combine the latest most cutting-edge race technology to produce the closest thing to a race car for the road the public would have ever seen. With a 2.9 litre, twin turbocharged V8, weighing less than 2,500 lbs, he certainly accomplished his goal. Capable of over 200 mph and 0-60 mph times of 3.8 seconds, it remains one of the fastest production street cars, all without the use of tons of electronic gadgetry such as traction and stability control.
With the first European cars being offered in 1987, it wasn’t until 1990 that Ferrari offered the F40 to the U.S. market. By the end of production in 1992, just 213 were sold to owners in the United States. While every F40 left Maranello in left-hand drive and finished in traditional Rosso Corsa, a handful of changes were made over the course of the production run. The earliest cars had no catalytic converters and a non-adjustable suspension, while the latest cars had both catalytic converters and adjustable suspension. Ferrari made one concession to creature comfort for U.S.-delivery F40s: air conditioning was fitted as standard.
Enzo Ferrari long had a dream, and it was to build the greatest race cars of all time. Ferrari succeeded at this on many race circuits, and wanted to do it for Group B as well. They never got the chance. The F40 had its roots in racing, but was built to be driven on the streets of the real world. It’s the ultimate street legal race car, and has carried the mantle of what’s possible when great car companies like Ferrari distill their successful designs into one ultimate driving machine.

This is one serious player, not many car manufacturers will take a race car and turn it into a street car.

F40 and 288GTO, my two all time favorites. And that F40 is an amazing example, 1300 original miles...I don't know how the owner was able to resist driving it!

The purpose of the foldable key is to bend when it's in your pocket and you sit down

Absolutely flawless - truly could (and should) be used as the yardstick for comparing the originality of other F40s. Thank you for sharing.

That interior look terrible. Seats and headliner both look like they have been coming apart
My guess is odometer roll back

    What a gem!!
    (Except for the headliner)
Actually surprised they even bothered with the headliner over just making some sort of panel instead

I’m going to keep working hard until I can purchase a Ferrari F40. Thank you Ferrari for creating such a beautiful thing to strive for.

Brings me back to when I saved up my chores & mowing money when I was around 10 to purchase from the toy store in our local mall
Should've never opened & played with it... Probably worth something now

Were all F40’s red? The Sultan of Brunei had a couple that were different colors but I don’t know if he had them repainted after getting them. I’ve heard that Ferrari built the Sultan’s cars special for him but again don’t know if that’s accurate or not.

The reason you can see the weave is because it literally has texture
Has nothing to do with the amount of paint

I listened several times and I swear at 2:55 he says the car has essentially brand new “Hires” instead of “Tires”. Beautiful car by the way.
