    40 years as a Ferrari mechanic and hands down the 288 is my favorite car for the street. The 288 is so much fun, very forgiving and easy to drive. Having thousands of mile of seat time in 288's is one of my fondest memories, the only complain would be that the seat gets uncomfortable after a couple hours. Love these cars so much, seeing one brings back so many good times...

      Harry Metcalfe recently had a go at a 288 GTO as well and deeply regreted not buying one back when he had the chance in the 2003-2005 era.
      He bought a Zonda instead and got to be on Horacios inner circle list, but today he regrets not owning a 288 GTO and cannot afford one today.

      So you were a Ferrari mechanic from 1980 to 2020 ? The 288 was never sold in the USA although some were brought in after the 25 yr rule. And yet you managed 1000's of ''MILES'' of seat time in someones GTO. It's Kilometers by the way. No mechanic racked up 1000's of miles in a 288 GTO...you are so full of shite....'oh the memories...' sheesh... ...

    Alain is a great presenter and the 288 GTO is a magical machine. I never thought I'd see someone flogging a GTO on damp roads in the fog. I'll bet when the drone operator saw that last shot, a tear came to his eye. Such a wonderful video in every way.

    Missing Alain's great automotive contributions. Thanks for featuring him!
    It's uncanny that the turbos don't stifle the sound of that V8, but instead it has an outrageously great exhaust sound. It almost sounds like that was the sound chosen for Petrolicious' opening.

    • @goognamgoognw6637
      @goognamgoognw6637 4 года назад +1

      Honestly as a NA V8 owner, no turbo can match a naturally aspirated induction in sound, not even a GT0 288. The turbo changes the exotic rocket sound into more of an oversized tin can sound, although the V8 helps saving it. Today the V8 are replaced with puny i6 or V6 and the sound just sucks.

    I was nearly in a race with a GTO back in 85 with my 3.0 turbo Porsche which maxed out at 172 (gear limited). Alas, I was taking my freeway exit but was able to see in my rear view mirror the red GTO beginning to spool up his turbos (as evidenced by the twin puffs of smoke at the rear). We had been at a car show earlier in the weekend. It would have been interesting to see how that would have been-but it was a public freeway! This video is well done. The fog is a necessary element. One need not actually have a clear view of the GTO. The sound is what you’re after.

    What a brilliantly shot video .....the fog on the roadway and the host so knowledgeable....the view through the rear glass facing the driving direction and those drone footage! The twin turbo Ferrari sound!

    Yet another fabulous review from Petrolicious. Camera work is stunning. I'll never forget the first time I saw a 288 GTO it was at Weston international Fruit and Veg market very early one morning in the early 80's, I was there with my dad and his employee buying stock for his shop. I was in my early teens then and a huge car fan as I still am to this day. I love this car as much now as I did as a young boy. Truly one of Marenellos finest.

    When I was in college (20+ yrs ago) I wanted to marry Amanda de Cadenet. That way I could have a beautiful actress as my wife and a legendary driver, collector and host as my father in law. Needless to say I had a rich fantasy life.

    Outstanding. I've never seen a video filmed thru the snow and the fog before. I hope I see more of them in the future. I've always enjoyed seeing MG T-series in the snow. I saw a 288 GTO at the Laguna Seca Pre-Historics, parked on the hill under the timing tower, all by it's lonesome. I've got the photos to prove it.

    The fact I didn’t get an alert when this vid came out and didn’t find it until 2 days later shows that Google’s algorithms have a long ways to go. I saw one in the wild, parked in a private drive in Ludwigsburg Germany in 1988-89. There was a small crowd gathered. Absolutely unquestionably one of the most beautiful machines ever built.
