Welcome and Thank you for subscribing! I am hoping to start a new video in the next week or two. Hoping to get the large Aloha Flower quilt on the machine!
Great ideas and love watching your process. I wonder why you don't use dry erase markers. Also, I saw one quilter, Darien U. (can't remember her last name) puts paintera tape on the edges of the Dura-Lar to make it easy to mark the boundary.
It’s funny that you ask that about dry erase markers. That was my original plan…but I didn’t have any and I didn’t want to purchase them not knowing if they would work for sure. I already had plenty of sharpie markers for other art projects in all sorts of colors. The sharpies worked great. Painters tape on the edges is a great way to go. Just lazy I guess 😉
I want to do that too... i sketched out the block pattern and I think each "pedal" is a 3 x 3 block so if I want a 12" block I make 4 1/2" blocks ... right? So the entire block is basically a 7x7 block ( including the sashing in the middle which constitutes a block width) ... So if I want to quilt the entire block...it has to be no more than 12"... I'll have to do the math .. lol I think the smallest I could get away with is a 14" block with 2 1/2" squares. right?
I was a basket of nerves watching you with those sharpie markers! Some ppl use dry erase markers. But I think children’s washable markers are a better idea bc if you do slip off the clear plastic and get it on your quilt, it will still wash out. I was going to suggest tape around the perimeter, but you didn’t hv much extra room. So I wondered if glo tape around the edges might work? It’s only 1/4”. The quilt is gorgeous! You did a beautiful job! I have always loved this pattern and wd like to make it someday. I can’t wait to see how you ended up quilting it. I’m brand new to your channel. 💖
Lol!!! So was I! I knew I needed to be super careful and with a background in painting, a fairly steady hand. Tape on the edges is ideal! Thank you for watch and the washable makers are not a bad idea. I will have to test them on the acetate. Something’s just don’t like to dry and that can be a big issue too. Have a wonderful weekend!
I liked your video. I was interested in finding out your process to baste this large quilt. I am about to start on a 93" quilt on my hoop frame and have decided to spray baste it because the pins get in the way of the clamps. What did your quilting end up being? There was a long silence at the end of this video. Lovely pattern. Would you start quilting in the middle? I'm hoping to get some suggestions. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Hi Janet! Thank you so much! Yes - I spray baste my quilts. I have a hate -hate relationships with pins and have found that spray basting works the best for me. I have a two part series coming up real soon on the quilting of this big quilt. Sorry about the silence. Even with small quilts, I almost always start in the middle. It works the best for me and since I am doing a lot of custom fmq and not a lot of straight line work across the whole quilt it really helps me keep everything smooth and straight. Keep on quilting!!!!!
I did not design it, although I did modify it just a bit. It is called Flutter by Planted Seed Designs - Gerri Robinson. I think I originally found it through IG @plantedseeddesigns. I am hoping to get it on the machine next week to start quilting it. I Can't wait! I just found the link plantedseeddesigns.com/products/new-flutter-and-hidden-shoofly-pdf-quilt-patterns

I sent you the link to the pattern in your last question. It is also linked in the about area of the video. It is not my pattern. I bought it from them.
Beautiful quilt! I got the pattern. :) Now to make another UFO. lol
I love your view point. I love new patterns and have lost count on my UFOs. Have fun!
Try framing the see-through sheet with colored tape. I went off the edge and marked the quilt! Agh!! Lesson learned.
Great idea! Blue painters tape -I always have that laying around! Thank you!
Oh Diane this is a great video. I've been using chalk and Cindy Needham's stencils but this is cool too. ty so much !
You are so welcome! I am so glad you like it.
New subscriber here! I'm looking forward to your next video! Thank you for sharing!

Very pretty. I'd love to make it where the blocks are smaller.
