      We/I, the rest of the world, think it's quite funny and a bit cute that in USA you call anything with mayo in, a salad. 😂😂 your egg salad would just be, egg, or if you had to distinguish, egg and mayo. I'm looking forward to seeing what other "salads" you make for my own possibly odd entertainment.

    If you open a mastic tube clean out the nozel after use and put some thin plastic over the opened tube stub, then screw the nozel back on to seal it air tight.. the other way is to put a screw into the end of the nozel.. but it has to be a tight fit to keep the air out.
    Get yourself a LED light for your overhead light ... Best is one that you can set to different light settings or red for when your on watch..and need to keep your night vision.
    You need to set the gap on a spark plug to get the best spark for your engine ...so you need a set of feeler guages ... Same tool for seting your engine valve clearences.

    • @patrickandmichaela
      @patrickandmichaela  5 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you for the advice! Will certainly give it a try the next time I open up a tube. It certainly is expensive enough that it is worth trying to save! Good call on that LED light! We should definitely try to get something going that can be both red and green!
      Luckily for us the spark plugs come with a 1mm gap, and that is exactly what the engine calls for! We did buy a set of them just to make sure though 🙂 Thank you for the well thought out comment and advice! We really appreciate having you here! 🎉⛵

BUT: This depends on orifice size of carburetor and how often you use said engine. If it sits long time: NEVER use gas with ethanol. If you use said small engine all the time: Gas with Ethanol does not matter as long as you never park it with the Gas/ethanol combination.

    10:16 I wouldn't drink the water from your tanks. Cook, Shower, Wash hands only. You want drinking water, pull right from the water maker, into a container, and drink from the container. Also, be sure to bleach out the water container after about every 5th use.
    The water tanks have bacteria, which when you wash with, bacteria on your body will kill that bacteria, and when you cook with it, the bacteria is killed in the cooking. This being said, avoid leftovers that were cooked with the water. Only have leftovers that were like grilled, or from a Restaurant.
    In summary...don't drink from the sink.

    • @patrickandmichaela
      @patrickandmichaela  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, depends on the boat and the situation. The captain who trained us had the question of "is this water making you sick?" right when he came aboard, and it has not, but has been something we have been conscious of ever since. We toss a human safe amount of bleach in the tanks once in a while, and give them a flush every couple of months. So far so good on it not making us sick, but we have considered maybe getting a drinking filter installed next to the sink specifically to have a bit extra of a filter and add in some minerals for the drinking water. Really appreciate the thoughtful advice! 🙂⛵🎉

    • @DarkSevariant
      @DarkSevariant 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@patrickandmichaela Okay, let me touch base. I live in the Rocky Mountains, USA. The city water is 350ppm. It's hard water. I don't drink it. I wash, do dishes, ...hell I don't even cook with it. I bought two 5 gallon containers, and I take them to the store and get Reverse Osmosis water. It's basically like your water maker. I bought a USB pump off ebay, and some food safe hose at the hardware store.
      When my container gets down to about 4 gallons and less, only after three days, I can take the pump off, pull the pump and hose up out of the container, and the hose that wasn't in the water, has a thin layer of slime. This is due to air getting passed the seal. I can only imagine what the plumbing lines are like on that boat. The natural bacteria on your body will kill the bacteria, and cooking with heat will kill the bacteria.
      You can drink from the water maker, no issues there, it's when you put that water in a holding tank, and drink from there. Remember, the hose in my 5 gallon container, only after three days, will have a light coating of slime. The slime has no color, it's just a gelatin of bacteria. Using a 5 gallon container is a way where you can manage cleanliness. It's much more difficult managing what, 160 liters of holding tanks? The 5 gallon containers can be bleach...also, sunlight kills germs...rinse with bleach, and let them air dry in the sun. Take them inside, let them cool, and then add water from water maker.
      The only way I would drink from the sink, is if you had a pressurized system. You have water pressure when opening the valve, but the tank needs to have constant pressure, to keep air out of your reservoir.
      It's your boat, your body, but even in an RV, you don't drink from the sink. See the issue is the bacteria is alkaline, with a pH of what...12? How it makes you sick is, it neutralizes your stomach acids, which are like 3pH. When your stomach acids are neutralized, you don't digest food. It causes digestive issues, bloating, and down the road, colon issues. I repeat, the water from the water maker is safe, but after you put it in your tanks, it enters a world of bacteria. Take the plumbing line off your sink faucet, do a cotton swab, and send it to a lab...you'll be shocked. ☮

    Michaela, Try Delta Net and Twine for a good price on netting for your fruit hammocks.
    Patrick, Get some Silicone Dialectric "tune up" grease to put in your spark plug boots. Seals from water, eliminates corrosion. Available at most auto parts stores.
    Love you guys,

    Always good to have bready egg and mackerel with a Q&A! 😂
    Just curious but do you make Patrick sleep out on deck afterwards so you don't get gassed out? 😉🤣
    Great to hear about your future plans, Especially that you'll be taking some time away from the boat (I have no doubt that Thalia is lovely, but everybody needs to spend a little time on land occasionally 😉) Good also to see the list of jobs being ticked off, what with the new filters, serviced dinghy engine, removed rust stains etc. And good for you both that you've made new friends as well! Hopefully you'll all be able to keep up with each other wherever you end up in the world.
    You'll have to remind a senile old man for having a bad memory but how long do you plan to stay up in the more northern States? Are you expecting to head back towards to Caribbean for winter? If so I imagine there'll be other RUclipsrs you'll be able to meet up with on your journey's in the region (there seem to be a few which do nothing but just one big circle around the various islands).

      😂 Yes Indeed! Thalia is our home and we love her dearly, but there is an adventure we must go on to make sure she is ready for anything! The Annapolis boat show is in October 10th so we will certainly still be in the states then. Our insurance requires us to still be North until November 1st, but at that point we will likely be heading somewhere warm. I think we are going to make a video shortly to talk about our travels, sailing plans, etc in a couple weeks here! I will say we are certainly waiting to get back to the bahamas, definitely did not get enough of them the first time around! Thank you for joining us on another week of adventure! ⛵🎉

    Looking good you two. You have probably already done this.... but, since you are more than likely passing marinas now that you are surrounded by land, might calculate what it cost to get fresh water from the marina compared to the cost of filters for your water maker to make the same amount of water. Being near land, I suspect that water maker is going to chew through filters fast due to suspended particles. I'm speaking from a certain level of ignorance here, so correct me if I'm wrong. I've never had a water maker and I'm not sure what it cost to fill up a freshwater tank in that part of the country. On the outboard....Hopefully the ignition coil cable did the job, especially if it was corroded . My go to is to suspect the carburetor. After that, I suspect the carburetor. lol. If you are having top end speed issues, it's probably one of the jets on, yes, the carburetor. I suspect you will become intimately familiar with..... the carburetor. They aren't hard to work on and really a pretty simple mechanism, but they are finicky and those dang jets get clogged. A fuel tank bouncing around doesn't help matters as the particles on the bottom get mixed in with the gas. Also, and you may be doing this, but ALWAYS use non ethanol gas in those little engines. That alone will save you sooooo much future work. The egg salad part was funny.

    • @patrickandmichaela
      @patrickandmichaela  5 месяцев назад +1

      You are correct! Being in more sediment filled water definitely goes through the filters faster. Each set of filters effectively costs 6 dollars, so if we can get 1-2 runs it is probably pretty worth it compared to paying for water, but not sure what they are always charging per gallon. Thank you so much much for the outboard advice! Maybe we will take apart the carb again, the first time we went through it everything was pretty clean, but called a good friend today and he gave some advice on air filters, air intakes, fuel lines, etc. So plenty of things to try! Glad you enjoyed our video, thank you for watching! 🎉⛵

    also, on the mint cases to lift the PC, if you want to build something else for that keep in mind that laptops are prone to overheating (definitely if you go to hotter climates), so the mint cases have the extra function of allowing extra airflow underneath the laptop. Might be a good idea to keep that in mind if you want to build something to replace the mint cases :)
