This will be the longest solo sail I have ever set out.. But strangely enough I'm not nervous at all! I feel ready for this journey, and I'm excited to share it with you guys!

I'm 74 now but most of my sailboats throughout the years have been engineless. After a while you become almost one with the boat. Nice video!
Love the format of your videos. Tell us about your boat.
Love you Evan! Thanks for the recap on how you chose to get rid of your engine. Safe travels. ❤
Thanks for watching dude!!
Absolutely love these videos dude. Also nice to watch a fellow Canadian out there on the big blue.
Nice to see you back in action again Evan! Looking fwd to all your coming adventures
Im loving these videos! Great content!
Thanks for watching dude!!
Great video, even better advice. I'm about to splash mine for the first time.
Bravo dude!

Another awesome video mate 👍. In my adventures sailing twice now around the world solo over the thirty three years I've been at it I've met a few sailors without engines . That's quite a bit of weight removed, calculated into your ballast ratio included fuel . Maybe when the opportunity arises adding some additional water tanks might be wise. My refit is going strong ,I'm looking forward to joining you out there on the Briney blue . Cheers the kiwi Mariner.
I've got 30gallons of water in place of where the engine was now. Surprisingly, pulling it improved the boats balance. Also, the original fuel tank was in the vberth (silly choice the yard made while the boat was being built). I used to have a 35gallon fuel tank under the starboard settee. The boat had a list to starboard. Removing it also helped. So all in all. No engine has been a plus haha!!!
@@EvanFindingFreedom excellent stuff Evan I'm pleased to hear you did that.. yes that's an odd place for a fuel tank .. my 28 foot Shannon carries 75 Gallons of water in stainless steel tanks below the waterline , also 35 gallons of diesel. My engine is a 20 HP yanmar , probably be good to beat an egg or mix a Gin and tonic . I think I'll be sailing a hell of a lot more than motoring..I look forward to your next post ..
Cheers Sterling.
We are almost sailing with no engine. Our electric motor only provides power for the last mile into an anchorage, respectfully suggesting you try Curacao as an anchorage. We just came here after 43 days from Brazil. Good job!
That's amazing! I'll have to look into it down there! I plan to do the Eastern Caribbean next year!
@@EvanFindingFreedom Curacao is part of the ABC islands on the border between Venezuela and Colombia. It is a safe hurricane hole.
It is cool to see the footage after following your track Evan. Awesome to have dolphins sharing the journey.
Good on you mate for getting around with no engine.
You're an inspiration .
I think that actually IS a spinnaker pole. A whisker pole is adjustable for length. A spin pole isn’t! 😁 great vid!
Great episode, you’ve got a very cool and u quiet vibe going…. And thanks for the pep talk at the end 😉
Godspeed man.
Great job on the video: Good editing, good story telling and actual sailing in a sailing video.
Great episode ! The dolphins and your pep talk at the end were definite highlights! Great footage.
My Favorite one yet Evan!! Great Job!
Thanks for the recap on your engine history. Interesting!
I'm assuming you've seen Kevin Boothby's channel, 'How to sail Oceans'. He circumnavigated solo in an engineless boat that's a bit smaller than yours. Good luck on your voyage.
Fantastic editing Capt'n, you have come a long way
Pardys did it around the world why can you! Love it!
Hey man ,hat of to u yes it can take days waiting for wind . I still have an engine but my solar is producing enough power I'm lucky !
I'm in Australia now!
Great Vid, Looking forward to following your journey
Engines are nice to have when nothing else works, otherwise just a huge spare anchor
What kind of boat are you sailing? What age? What length. I am a new subscriber. I enjoy watching people do a Real Circumnavigation Route around the continental Capes. Have you watched "Sweet Ruca's RUclips videos of their sail around Cape Horn, and up the western coast of South America?
1977 Tayana 37
You might consider dropping the point of attachment for your spinnaker pole at the mast, down a few feet so pole with be, more or less horizontal to the deck.
Im enjoying your channel. Is your boat a union 36? Give us a boat tour.
Another awesome episode, I’m hooked!
Technical question on the filming side, what are you using for a camera? There was a great rack focus from the sunset, to the winch and back again! Are you using a 35 mm ? I think I say a gimbal in shadow or some sort of stabilizer, what was that?
I mostly use a go pro, but I have a Sony A6500 I should take out more for those nice shots. I've got 4 different lenses. Ranging from 18mm up to something around 250mm I think.
Ani incredible combination of a great adventure an fun technical sound story telling. Rocking it!
Excellent video!!
Ahhh man I love the sunset shot at 5:36 🤩
one of my favorites as well!
Hey Evan, thanks for sharing your journey. I’ve been dreaming for years to do something similar and am still in the preparation phase up here in soon to be cold Canada. Will be living vicariously through your future vids. Keep em coming eh 👍
Get on out here and do it! You'll never regret it!
Do you ever get tows into a dock? If so you are not engineless, you just use other boat's engines.
I hope you’ll put together some refit videos. A boat tour would be nice as well.
refit videos will be coming soon :)
Love the engine story can't wait for boat tour would like to see what you've done to your boat in total just found your videos enjoy them it's good to see some of the details I'm almost ready to head out in the ocean with my Santana 28 on the Columbia River getting fixed up I plan on doing a tour of my boat my channel is called Santana 28 restoration and sailing not a lot of viewers but I'm having fun stay cool stay safe don't be afraid of your life vest when you're working up on the bow hate to lose ya
Would like to know more about your boat, and maybe a boat tour?
I've had a lot of requests for a boat tour. So I'll definitely get around to making that video eventually :)
Great vid. Just curious how long is your boat?
Nice job Evan, you're off to a great start! I just ran across your Ep. 3 on my RUclips feed and subscribed. The number of comments is a good sign that your subsciptions will grow. Are you aware of Kevin Boothby's "How to Sail Oceans" channel? He is an excellent engineless sailor and sometime philosopher who we can all learn from. He is in his early fifties, has crossed oceans, but has settled into the East Coast nomadic sailing ritual: south to Bahamas, Fla, Caribbean in the winter and back up north (in his case, Maine) in the summer. It's a real sailing channel - no bikinis. You should check him out when you can if you haven't already.
I definitely watched a lot of his videos when I first decided to attempt all of this engineless. Seeing him do it gave me the confidence to try myself, and I learned a lot from watching his videos. Thanks for subscribing! I'm excited to keep sharing my videos!
Your nephew Trevor wanted to know what kind of drone you use? He loved the footage from it !
Are you heading to Guatemala because of the hurricane season?
Loving the videos man! I wonder if when your whisker pole gets stuck like that, Could you poor boiling water into the slip would it dissolve The salt and free it up easier? Keep the videos coming bro, Stay safe out there
that's something worth trying for sure!
Thats a long time to be hove to.
It definitely was!! I was waiting out passing storms on the west side of Acklins Island, there wasn't anywhere great around for me to anchor. And its good practice!
How much solar do you have? I think I saw 4 panels?
Isn't it dangerous to have no engine for manoevering in harbour entrances with rocks around, swell, currents and tides? Or to avoid collisions with other boats when inside a harbour and docking?
Only if you plan to have an engine as back up for if you end up in those situations. If you don't have one to begin with you plan around it and avoid those situations. I've sailed into harbors, around boats, through cuts. It all just takes extra preparation. Which usually results in a safer passage. People who are dependent on their engine put themselves unknowingly into far more dangerous situations because they think they have something to protect them from danger.
How bigs your boat?
37 feet, she's a Tayana 37
@@EvanFindingFreedom I rock a 27" mirage
Why not use your outboard?
Dam out there solo id probably stay tied off 24/7. Twist an ankle overboard and thats all she wrote lol
I only tether off when conditions feel justified for it. I make the choice similar to how I decide to reef.. It's mostly a gut feeling on when it's necessary.
Thanks for the awesome video, I also had an engine in a previous boat that quit working, and decided to carry-on without it, we sailed for a year around the Caribbean islands. And yes, it is a totally different way of sailing, respect to you.
Is your yacht a Tayana 37... I can't see the characteristic carving so I am wondering...
Yup, it is a Tayana 37! :)
@@EvanFindingFreedom Beautiful yacht
Nice! Is it really sailing if you're using an engine? lol!
some would say no ;)
bruh, them bananas looked expired.
hahah they were frozen and then I thawed them in the fridge! They looked disgusting hahahah!! But the banana bread was fantastic!
wish you luck, because as you know currents can be fierce, with no sail power the currants could take you ashore in a bad place ,your hull is not shoal friendly, not wise buddy.
