- On this weeks episode I finally make it to Guatemala and check into Livingston! I hadn't touched land for over 2 weeks! I then attempt to sail from Livingston to Rio Dulce without the use of my outboard... I sailed 50% of the way up the river periodically needing to turn the outboard on around some of the tighter corners where the wind drops out. The river going to Rio Dulce is absolutely stunning!
Thanks for watching!

This is definitely my favorite episode I've put together so far!! The scenery going up the river is ABSOLUTELY breathe taking! I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together!😁⛵
so good. thank you
Yeeeeaaaaah😎
YOUR SAILING SKILL WITHOUT MOTOR AT LOW WIND PROVES HOW GOOD YOUR SAILING SKILL IS .
This is a great channel. I really enjoy the way you do your videos. I do enjoy boat yard repairs. And when you’re out to see, I really enjoy the sailing not sitting in the cabin complaining about every little thing as I see on so many other videos. you’re a delightful young man and I like that you keep it clean
Totally felt like I was with you on the journey up the river! So fabulously done to make us a part of the journey ❤
Very enjoyable thank you. I'm looking forward to the projects next week!
Love you Evan! I'd never want to bet against you, unless it would give you inspiration. Congratulations on reaching your destination. Be well. ❤
Great video as usual. Say hi to B&B !
That was very nice boat handling to get up the river and to anchor...
Thank you! I'm planning to do a "how I sail on and off anchor with no engine" video eventually. It wont be until I leave here though!
mate sailing that boat there with no engine you are a true sailor and seaman 👊
Thanks dude!! I've honestly never sailed on the ocean with an engine haha! So I don't know the difference 😅🤣
Evan, you are already free. You, my friend, are finding out who you really are. 💪💯🔥
Great journey. 🤗💖⛵🐬🇺🇸
Just doing my civic duty leaving a comment to appease the RUclips algorithmic gods 🙏🏽
Epic !! Wing on wing, climb the mast, drone shot, single handed. Love it!! (please be careful)
I previous sailed my Soling single handed, no motor, day sailing...only twice did I need a tow home due to wind falling off at sunset, always hit my mooring ball.
Always trying to ride that line of truly living, and being relatively safe while doing it. Sometimes I need to push the boundaries a bit to grow and learn :)
Well done !
Nicely done!
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us, looking forward to learning more boat repair while you are on the dry docks.
don't forget to check for rope chaffing on your dingy towed, so important to CONSTANTLY CHECKING ALL ROPES /RIGGING /LINE etc. wide awake and procedure's equals survival on a yacht
woke up and saw you had a video posted. My day is starting out right!
Great real sailing man. Great video. Gracias t care.
Thanks for sharing all this - it’s really inspiring and entertaining as well. You’ve got a great mix of camera angles, content and music makes a perfect vibe. Good luck w the projects, we’ll be watching 🤙
You SAILED (mostly) up the Rio singlehanded while filming. Impressive!
While also having an absolutely INCREDIBLE time!! That was/is a memory I'll have forever!
50/50either you will or you wont.....😁
I am always learning something from your videos!
I'm always learning something new while making the videos haha! :)
your one crazy guy going up the mast with no safety lines,
Gotta live a little haha!
Sailing up the river is a trip I recommend to everyone. Only a fraction of us get to. Ur video's are getting better with each one. Topping this is going to be tuff.
Thank you!! I agree. I really loved making this one and I feel like the flow of the video was nearly perfect! It's mostly all about filming. So editing these videos has shown me what I need more of. So I'm hoping to see even more improvement in my videos in the future :)
If you get a chance can you pan around to Barisheet a 42 monohull in Nana Juana. Hope to get back soon. I'm living vicariously through your videos ! lol
You haven’t stopped amazing me yet with your abilities & ingenuity, so I’m gonna say the chance is somewhere near 100%!
I have really been enjoying your videos! I did not take you up on your proposition bet but would have guessed about 50%.without knowing more about the circumstances. You have a knack for drawing us into your adventures and your honesty and enthusiasm comes through the videos. You answer lots of comments and take the time and trouble to take the drone footage which shows respect for your audience. It also doesn't hurt that you are kind of a charismatic dude! I'll be watching and betting on you to succeed!
I really appreciate the feedback and your honest comment as well. I really like flying the drone, but I also know the audience loves the view! Flying the drone off the boat adds another level of difficulty haha. Which makes things fun and interesting!
@@EvanFindingFreedom I saw that you reached out to Kevin Boothby, very cool. You two have so much in common.
That area seems so very peaceful and relaxed. You managed to save some gas and noise with the sails. Good enough!
zero odds
the weight of your craft deserves an electric winch, so handy for anchor and emergency sail and mast/SAIL work IF YOU KNOW HOW!!
I don't think so. Manual is much more reliable. And I can manage everything quite easily. I can hoist my mast without needing to use the winch at all. And my big manual windlass is great.
Very nice
So the depth of that river is pretty consistent and stays pretty deep close to the edges? Very impressed with your skill level.
The river can get up to 80 feet deep in some spots. And shallows up to less that 4 around some of the corners. Navionics sonar charts are quite accurate in the area. But generally it's deep throughout. Oh, and thank you!! I had way to much fun sailing my way most of the way up the river haha!
Lol i did the same thing, motor sailed up the river with my outboard hip towing
Demasiado barco para un hombre sólo... Pero eres joven...😊
Love the bold saiing!
Knowing you, I'll say 100%!!
Sorry to let you down! 😂
Nice wing and wing shots on the lake!
Thanks!! The first take I tried with that the drone malfunctioned and almost crashed itself into the mast hahaha!!
Hmm.. I am hopeful but 8 miles up towards Rio Dulce/ El Golfete thru such a hilly winding channel would be tough.
Thanks for watching!! It was such an incredible experience going up that river!
@@EvanFindingFreedom I live in the area for about two years. I think you mentioned you’ve been there before and I’m gonna be there a few months, if you get a chance, do a quick one or two day detoured to the Mayan Ruins in Copan just across the border in Honduras. See you on future episodes!
How do you set the anchor without engine or wind? Just hoping it will hold? Or do you dive on it?
Upriver sailing isn’t done much anymore. People just don’t have the patience for it. You did get a decent chunk of the way. Well done.
In light winds the weight of the anchor holds the boat in place. But I make sure to pan the chain out evenly so when the wind does build it lets the anchor set itself correctly. It depends on a few factors. But I have successfully anchored my boat for 3 years now without dragging. I'll make a video on it eventually. Thanks for watching!

If i were enginless on my tayana i would have a outboard brackett on the stern. Side tied you got minimal power thrust. But stern mounted it would push you into 20. knots. Unless you hobby horse and you will in open ocean up wind
I would need to have it side mounted because of my Hydrovane.. plus it would be super ugly adding a bracket. If I wanted to have access to my motor all the time I'd just put a proper inboard back in the boat.
I will be on a sail boat soon. I have to say it to make it happen right?
ask and you shall receive. But you've got to really want it!

how did you know?
Yeah! I was rigth, as I always am......
30 percent chance
I’ve heard Guatemala is a preferred spot for refit work. Do you know why?
It's mostly to do with the haul out and storage costs being cheap. And the labor rate is pretty low.. But all of that is slowly changing. I suspect in the next 5 years it won't really be like this anymore.
You won’t sail all the way. Too many (beautiful) twists and turns. But you’ll have fun trying 😉
You've got that right!!!😁
Are you still located in guatemala ?
Si!! :)
@@EvanFindingFreedom do you make it to the city at all ?
@@jbodyke I'll have to eventually to renew my visa.
@@EvanFindingFreedom let me know, ill buy you lunch and show you the boat im building
