That is Swedish power in action. I have had an on-going love affair with Sweden since I was 15 (I'm now 69), I went there in '71, to meet with a penpal, and that is where I discovered Scania, (her father worked for Scania). The Swede's have such a different view of the world, it is so refreshing. Enjoy your time there Bruce, I'm so jealous you're there and I'm not.... From UK.
these are not new boats. they been having them for over 20 years the ferry between sweden and dk have more tech and holds more records then this tug boat it is for catching cannabis, they just forgot the other guys could keep adding motors.. so its more or less a show boat now after it did not catch anyone in over 20 years
I passed you with one of the steam ships (it’s now converted to CAT diesels). If I would have known that you guys were onboard I would have given you a honk! Thank you for great content!
Almost all of the older boats you walked past are old fishing boats. The vessel named Matilda is a Trditional Swedish Fishing boat from the 1920's to about 1950's and her mast is more for holding netlines but it can usually also have a small help sail. Most of these old ones that share the same design as Matilda are not from Swedens eastcoast but instead the westcoast and they usually came from the area between Gothenburg and Oslo, Norway where the largest part of Swedens Fishingfleet was placed. These old vessels might not be fast but they are extreamly nice and stable vessels in rough sea and could very likely still handle crossing the atlantic to USA or Canada. Most of these are also powered by Old Penta aka Volvo Engines, Scania or if you are really lucky and old Munktell ignition ball motor. and some Sabb motors to, and no that is not SAAB but Sabb haha. hope you enjoy your stay, best Regards.
That is a VERY nice boat you were on! Oh, the one you commented on at 20:35 or so with the short mast and diesel. The sail on the mast CAN be used for emergency propulsion if the engine dies, however it's there more to add some stability to the boat At least that's what I was taught many moons ago, you can see them on some older lobster boats here in the States.
Yes, right. They are all retired fishing vessels from the Baltic sea, except the minesweeper Labben. Since they became homes to people, fresh fish is sadly harder to find in Stockholm.
Great video Bruce 👌 shame you can't drop one of the V8 marine units in a truck 👍 get the true V8 sound out if the pipes and twin turbo too 😁 Can't wait for the next update, keep up the great work and nice to see you brought Amber along for the ride too 👌
I just realized this is the 1st time I ever seen you cleaned up, ya clean up purity good ole son LOL!!!!! Have a Great Time and Learn Stuff...oh tell Ms. Amber to behave herself lol!!!!
Thank you for doing these videos, its a lot of fun to see the differences between the US and EU designs. BTW, looks like you guys had a great time on the boat! :)
I don't know crap about big boats, but this makes a lot of sense to me. I immediately thought of diesel/electric locomotives and this would be awesome in a similar role as a locomotive such as tugboats if they're not already doing it this way
Hey Bruce, if you get a chance could you please ask the guys at Scania if they would know where people in the US can buy 1/64th scale diecast Scania truck models? I love these Scania trucks and would love to have some 1/64th scale diecast models of them to add to my collection of DCP by First Gear 1/64th scale KW and Pete US trucks.
This is something totally different 😂it hasnt got wheels but is still has power Those vessels with the masts you passed were old fishing boats by the way and that last one that was for sail was an Old Navy vessel like a mine sweeper.
Almost sounded like the fishing boat dad used to own, big engine but "not" that strong lol Anyway hope you have fun in Sweden, this weekend over here in Finland Ostrobothnia people will be shooting fireworks cause it's the end of Summerhome season, can get quite beautiful. Dunno if the Swedes have anything similair but hope you get to see something 😀
Well... now that you do have access to the gensets, it'd be the perfect opportunity to get an Edison electric truck and swap the genset with a Scania. Cool boat! ...so are you going to be touring the US in an R770?
The boat Labben was built in 1939, decked in Honduran mahogany and served in the Swedish Navy. Until 1955. And called HMS M4 So not a fishing boat.😉 (Wikipedia)
You know what? I was never into boats, I think I never saw something that gave me the “wait a minute” - long story short thus video made look up for other boats and I got to see the racing videos which blow my mind because I barely handled a Kawasaki with 1.2 turbo engine and I came to realise there is some boats that have two v8
thats exacly what is is, a play toy they cant win when people can keep adding motors we all know these bopats are used to treat swedens cannabis fear, and they are not fats anuff this is a toy for a few people, waste of tax payers money we save people in demark with less money, i doubt these people will even come save you if you are in probllems these people think they are saving plenty of lives from cannabis
If you ever get the opportunity, try and check out the Mack Attack boat the guy mentioned. its a 48 foot Viking sportfish. would be cool to see a video of it
Im amazed that you are in my home country 😁. Awesome video with a super nice boat. I didn’t know that Scania did marine applications 😁. I hope you enjoyed that trip in Sweden 😁
There are now boats that have electric motors powered by diesel generators, and I personally believe that in the near future, a lot of the big trucks (Semis) will run by electric motors powered by a diesel generator. They would have A LOT of power and get 2, 3, or 4 times the miles per gallon.
Yes it makes a lot of sense to have a battery as a buffer to regenerate when braking and going downhill and always have the engine running at the optimal RPM and load.
450 KW X2 is massive power... I run 1400kw twin set 3 phase gennys on movies and concerts... My smallish medium gennys are 450 kw at 2800 rpm... And just sucking down diesel...
It would be good for lifeboat use and ask the question ❓ what's it like in bad weather a very expensive pleasure boat Amber and Bruce enjoy your time in Sweden 🎉
Kinda, they have the 360 rudder/prop units... My retard brain is slipping on what those are called shit... Most the new cruise ships have them. Shit I can't remember the name but can see them with my eyes open...
Far from "exactly the same". The diesel engines in these ships, that constantly runs at the exact same rpms run generators that produce AC electricity with a constant frequency of 50 or 60hz. The electric power is distributed to the electric propulsion motors through speed control systems, usually VFDs (Variable Frequence Drive). There is no shafts between the diesel engines and the propellers at all. The advantage is that you can run the propellers forwards an reverse with different speeds without any mechanical components and that the engines can work at the most efficient rpms. The electricity these generators produces is also used for every other electric device on the ship too via transformers. Like a normal electricity distribution system on land.
@@ontheroadagain4773 I work on those engines, i know. But simplified, the principle is the same. One can nitpick and explain every molecule of difference, but the overall idea is still the same. Op of the video was amazed of a electric hybrid propulsion on a boat, i would assume he would be interested in the bigger ships as well with, in large, without going full autism on the systems, the same.

Nah. The US government protect their truck manufacturing industry. Scania has sold marine and industrial engines in the US since 1990 so it's nothing new.
@Bruce Wilson It’s a great shame you didn’t go see the Veteran Flotilla and the working museum at Ystad. They have working retired military boats powered by Isotta Franchinni marine engines and working WW2 German E boat The Isotta engines are 5,000 hp each and one boat has 3!!! 50 knots plus! As for the gas turbine missile boat? Don’t ask; but the exhaust outlets are 3.3 feet wide and she has 3!!! Again 50knots plus
@ Bruce next year tobad you just Missed the ELMIA truck show in sweden (biggest truck show in the Nordic next year dont miss it. Scania is big there and they have all the new trucks ,and tailers and awesome equitment and also custom truck show!! You could get so much content from elmia truck show building a truck bond to the USA as a show truck ? man thats cool

Can't believe the journey you've been on since you bought your first Scania about a year ago. What a ride!
Super ambassador for Scania. What a role model 😊
The Viking Line ship you filmed. I have been working on that ship for 5 years!
Beautiful Stockholm! The Venice of the North!
Welcome to Sweden Bruce. Cool to see you strolling in Stockholm.
I love Stockholm. I go there once or twice per year and never had a bad trip so far..
Scania Trucks coming back to USA!!!

Scania Trucks coming back to USA!!!
Absolutly excited to see the Scania 770r build , way to goo Bruce , Big thing’s coming in the future I think 👍✌️
20:55 Labben is an old minesweeper build for the Swedish marine in the late 30s.
Nice seeing you in town!
I was thinking it was an old Navy ship .... thanks for the details on "Labben"
At this rate, I'm not going to be surprised to see Bruce getting a tour / flying in a Saab Gripen
Hahaha 😂
Good to see Amber and Bruce is wearing a real shirt! This is a very cool vessel! Lots of technology in it.

Scania really needs to bring their truck to the US...
It's funny, there's an OLD Scania highway sign outside of Cobden, Ontario. Time for a come back.
