    What a nice and simple boat. I did dinghy sailing when I started sailing more than 50 years ago. Now I have a Albin Vega in Friesland, but maybe I will go back to the roots. The direct contact to nature and simplicity is unforgotten...

      Hi Mike. Great simple sailing, isn't it? Sometimes I also am thinking about going back to such a small and simple boat. Even our 27/28 feet boats are quite simple. But it's very different with an open boat...

    Love your videos,,please can you explain the red line attached to front of boom and mast (what it does and how it works please?)

    • @kempvanginkel1859
      @kempvanginkel1859  20 дней назад

      Is there to prevent the boom from moving forward. When it is not there, the mainsail finds its own balance, and moves a long way forward when hoisting the sail. And that is because I use a loose loop around the boom to attach the down haul. The red line would not be necessary when I would attach the down haul to a fixed point on the boom - but in that case I would have less trimming options. Does this make sense?

    • @johnhaughey5347
      @johnhaughey5347 20 дней назад

      Yes Thank you, where can I find the clutch device your red line is attached to? Or who makes this?

    Illur is about a perfect boat. There are many boat designs out there, but for some reasons, this seems about the ideal example of form follows function. Very French in that regard. There is a stereotype that the French are romantics, but actually they are pragmatists.

    Dearest Kemp Congratulation it's amazing and very inspiring. I am restoring a Dinghy 12 from 1979 and I would like to add a bowsprit on it for a flock: your solution is very simple and looks very efficient ... I'm interested in asking you where you get the accessories to rig the bowsprit? ( the gudgeon the gunmetal that keeps the bowsprit connected to the mast and the ring that connect the bowsprit to the bow and ultimately the ring at the extremity of the bowsprit).
    thanks for your inspiring work
    best Wishes Luca

      @kempvanginkel1859  2 месяца назад

      @@LucaTrudu-x2y hi Luca, thanks for your enthusiastic comment! I ordered the mast connection and the ring at the front end of the sprit at debootbouwer.nl. The brass connection to connect to the stem, is tailor made by an instrument maker in Arnhem.
      But I think also toplicht.de could be a good source, they have a huge catalogue of marine goods. Good luck with your restoration!

    I like that you removed the longitudinal seats in the stern. But where did you place the buoyancy blocks that were in these seats?
