Hey everyone! Thanks so much for joining us for another week and Happy Holidays! We hope you are all having an amazing week. Sorry for a bit of a short vlog this week but we promise the next few will be longer… 😬 We wanted to let you all know that we will not be posting next Sunday, we decided to take a week off for Christmas/New Years. We’ll be back the following Sunday January 5th to our normal schedule! Cheers! 🎄❤🤙
a can of soup?! my goodness what an exciting way to start the day, with a little soup time! yall handled that great, i would have probably freaked out. shout out to casper and jim and theresa
New boat project, move the compass! Or build a box around it to keep the cans from interfering. It is awesome to continue to see how everyone in the community helps each other! Safe travels , merry Christmas and happy new year!
Ha! I think we just need to make sure we keep plastics on that end of the bench, which is definitely doable. Shouldn't be a thing we have to deal with again knowing its location and how fickle it can be! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well! 🎉⛵⛄❄🙂🎉
That is what everyone says! I think ours may be a little more worn, so will have to see if we can get them nice and clear again or if we will eventually have to replace them! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
All of that mess with nothing working is so stressful! At least a can of soup is easy to fix lol but wow I would have been so stressed! Good job Caspar saving the day
No kidding! So funny how it can be such a small thing that causes so much of a headache, but you are right at least the fix was easy! Kasper really is our hero lol Thank you so much for watching! ⛵🎉
Yeah definitely makes sense, but kind of a surprise based on location lol We should definitely take some time to learn how to chart things out on paper, not so much for being so close to things, but in case you are ever way out in the ocean and everything goes dark lol Thanks so much for watching! 🙂⛵🎉
Now I know why they say to never put metals next to electronic compass 😅 Glad to see it was an easy fix! Hope you guys make it down to warmer waters sooner than later💙⛵
Yeah who would have thought! If only we knew where the compass was beforehand lol We will get there eventually, but not anytime soon 😂 Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
If they had been Al beer cans you would have been ok but they must have been some heavy old steel jobs 😂 I know someone that got caught out putting something else down near their flux compass...but they were offshore. Have a good holiday break .. get some neoprene fisherman's gloves with or without the fold finger thumb tips .. they are warm even wet and keep the wind off . Your hands do usually adapt though ... feet are normally the problem. 🧙🏼♂️🇬🇧 Doing geology we always put our hammers etc down before taking compass readings.. Worst culprits are high power rare earth magnets in electrical devices like speakers etc.
No kidding! It really puts it into perspective how wild sailing was before all of the electronic charts, instruments, etc. People were really out there just floating around trying not to hit the sand lol Crazy to think about! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
Gee if something can go wrong it does. Who would have thought a can of soup could have caused all that craziness? Thank God that happened when you were more inland like the timing couldn't have been better and it's great that you were able to get hold of the old boat owner and he was able to assist thousands of miles away. Merry Christmas guys as always God bless and stay safe
Murphys law huh! It is wild the problems you will run into while out on a boat! Yeah better to happen closer to land than way out in the ocean! Kasper is an absolute life saver
Interviewer - "So Michaela, how did you get lost on a big body of water and that be enough to give you a mental breakdown?" Michaela - "It was the soup!" Interviewer - "Oookayyyy" 😂 Well that's a story I haven't seen before and would never have figured that a tin can would have impacted on your navigation as it did! Did you ever find out why the compass was put below the furniture and not up the mast for an uninterrupted access to the signal it needs to work? Or is it a box that has to be kept safely stored away from the elements? Good to see that you got to quickly identify what had gone wrong though and it's certainly a lesson for the future. At least you weren't way off the coast when it happened as I guess that could've presented other challenges instead which may have been more stressful! Good to see that you were able to spend time with family and that you were able to also keep up with Bret and Marissa. Here's to a somewhat less stressful week next week!! Safe travels you two 🙂
😂😂😂 The Soup! The Soup! I think the flux gate compass usually is kind of tucked up and away somewhere in a hull. I think you want it to be kind of central to the boat as it is part of the auto pilot, if you put it up the mast I imagine the sway of things would make it rather confused, but that is just a guess. Definitely a lesson learned there :) Thanks so much for being here with us Pete! Hope you have a happy holidays and a great new year! 🎉⛵🌅🎉
THE BIRDS! Shoutout to Alfred Hitchcock. Just think, you're heading down to where yu won't have to worry about being cold, but the heat will hit something different.
I remember watching the birds with my mom, what a trip! Yeah, it is funny perspective thinking about coming up here going "I just wish it was cold" and now heading down saying "I just wish it was warm" 😂 Although truth be told I think we both would take a little too cold over WAY TOO HOT anyday lol Thanks for being here with us Kourt! Hope you have a great week and get a bit of a break 🙂⛵🎉🌅
😂😂😂 It certainly is funnier in retrospect! Quite the headache while it was messing up all our instruments lol Thank you for spending another week with us! 🎉⛵
Yeah, funnily enough I think our standard mounted compass was mounted a little close to our chart plotter, so if it is on also seems to pull 20 degrees anyway. But yeah, I think spending some time learning how to do it old school would be well worth it! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵

Lol yeah what a world we live in where a can of soup can cause such chaos. Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉

Imar products are the only cleaner we use on our vinyl. It will keep your vinyl clear and supple as it ages.

Who would have known, but makes sense. You take about that in the boating courses, but only on the Instrument on the dash.
Yeah definitely makes sense, but kind of a surprise based on location lol We should definitely take some time to learn how to chart things out on paper, not so much for being so close to things, but in case you are ever way out in the ocean and everything goes dark lol Thanks so much for watching! 🙂⛵🎉
Need to build a little wood shelter around compass. How silly that it’s exposed so that can even happen. No soup for you! 😂
No kidding! Definitely something to consider in the future! Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉🙂

Hope you both find some warmth and have a Merry Christmas 🎄.
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well! Thank goodness for our diesel heater! Thank you for watching! 🎉⛵
It’s so hilarious that a can of soup messed with your instruments so badly! Good thing you figured it out.
Yeah it is wild! Thanks to Kasper for the assist there! Thank you so much for watching! 🙂🎉⛵
Good practice sailing without electronic gear.
No kidding! It really puts it into perspective how wild sailing was before all of the electronic charts, instruments, etc. People were really out there just floating around trying not to hit the sand lol Crazy to think about! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
Merry Christmas to you , keep on keeping on South,, it will be a bit warmer for sure. ❤
Merry Christmas to you as well! We are certainly trying to get south, but have been a bit caught up recently! Thank you for watching! ⛵🎉🙂
Great video. Thanks for the tow.😊
Anytime Rodney! Was such a pleasure meeting you! Hope you are doing well on your journey South! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵

Better verbage! Keep being kind to one another!!!@@patrickandmichaela
Merry Christmas! Gift yourselves some merino wool under layers. They are thin, temperature regulating and still great if you get damp/wet.
Great idea! Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too and Happy New Year!
A can of soup who knew! Looking forward to seeing what 2025 brings! Happy New Year! 🎉🎉
I know!! It's crazy that a can of soup threw everything off so much! Thanks, we are too! Happy New Year to you as well! 🎉
Nothing better than warm buns
Truly something I never take for granted now 😅 thanks for watching!
well done guys!! always a treat to watch! keep safe! X
Thanks!! That’s so kind of you to say! We really appreciate you sticking around and watching our videos!
You were in the soup because of a can of soup, tickled my sense of humour.
😂😂😂 It certainly is funnier in retrospect! Quite the headache while it was messing up all our instruments lol Thank you for spending another week with us! 🎉⛵
Plexco is a good cleaner/polish for vinyl windows.
We are at TJs marina. Will try the Mexican food restaurant.
Thanks for the tip we will look into it! I hope you enjoyed!
Most importantly, what kind of soup was it that created the magnetic alteration.
Have a Merry Christmas and Great Saling New Year
haha I believe it was just a can of vegetable soup. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you as well! 🎄
@@patrickandmichaela I hope Santa treated you well!
Ya mite need to remember you have or should have a standard magnetic compass and learn paper charts and headings .. .

That's because it good soup so that's why you put shit soup and no problem so listen eat good soup 😂 happy New Year's guys ❤🙏
Happy new year to you too! 🥳
Sailors need magnetic compass and big brass balls
😂😂😂 Indeed! Thanks so much for watching! ⛵🎉
Everyone has that can of soup that keeps getting pushed to the back of the cabinet.
Yes unfortunately we learned the hard way we’re not to store soup on the boat 😂
Was it chicken soup?
No I believe it was a vegetable soup! Why do you ask? Has chicken soup wronged you in the past? 😅
