The alternates are SFO, SEA, CDB, ADQ en route. As you approach the islands it changes to other Hawaiian airports like LIH, OGG, KOA and lesser known JRF. This was one of my routes with Alaska Airlines during my 28 year career with them. I always loved going to the islands from ANC. A nice one day getaway for a pilot and crew!
As an Airline Employee of Alaska Airlines, we appreciate the business and the kind words for the company. I’ve been watching you on RUclips for a while now and it’s always good to see you take on new endeavors. I always hope to run across you one day man. Ramp Agent based out of BNA, Nashville .. be safe Jeb!
When you explained the end it reminded me of the time when an Alaska airlines gate agent asked the captain if I could come in the cockpit as I wanted to be a pilot when I was older, and they let me sit in the first officer seat and mess with the controls and turn on the anti ice and seat belt sign, then they mention me and said thanks for helping with the pre flight checks in the announcement. This was years ago but I never forgot it as I am still working hard to become a pilot. Truly amazing service at Alaska airlines
As an Alaskan, I’ll always give Alaska Airlines high marks, first class or not. They’ve been courteous and loyal to Alaskans for years. Thanks for sharing this trip!!
I’m a ramp agent based at LHR for British Airways and thank you for appreciating our hard work throughout the pandemic it’s been tough for everyone in the industry it’s also great to see Alaska has joined us in One World providing even more connectivity for all of our customers! Good to see great service on a fellow one world partner!
Flew Alaska in 19, before the world exploded. It was an absolutely amazing flight, the cabin crew were top notch, the food was on point (we were in first), and I've told all my friends since then if they have the chance, fly Alaska. It's wonderful to see Jeb that they're still thriving and providing the same service we got two years ago. And as always, cheers and here's to a great flight (sorry Jeb)
I have lived in Alaska for a long time but when I moved here I was surprised by the Alaska Hawaii connections. One of the big factors is work, a lot of Hawaiians come to Alaska to work but go home often. My husbands family moved from Alaska to Hawaii for college and back to Alaska for work. Anchorage public radio even has a Hawaiian music show and Juneau a Hawaiian restaurant. Thanks for the great video's!
This is packed with "Well, that impressed me" moments, Jeb. My Top three, in no particular order... A) The dedication to serving veterans of the armed services B) The number of musical instruments on board c) The inclusion of Ginger Ale on the drinks menu. The highlight, for me, was hearing the Creative Director directing creatively. That lady is sweet AND sassy! Your shirt was fine for flying TO Hawai'i, Jeb. I think Sarah may be the lead to follow for the flight back.
That was fantastic Jeb, I really enjoyed it. Particularly the positive sign off at the end thanking Airlines and employees for their service in the skies. That was classy and well stated. Excellent work!
737-NG got 180 minutes ETOPS so technically, can return to Anchorage if less than halfway there or continue to Honolulu. However: There is Kodiak AK that can be used, Midway that can be used. Also consider that depending on winds and location at time of engine failure Vancouver or Seattle might be within 3 hours.
I thought about Kodiak and Midway also. Its seems however that Midway would always be much further away than Honolulu or other Hawaii island airports in the case of an in-flight emergency. Of course it could still be an option if for some reason none of the Hawaii airports were available or the usual flight path was forced westward for some reason. The runway at Midway is certainly long enough.
Alaska is my favorite US carrier, period. I've used them all over the West Coast. Head and shoulders above the carriers that primarily serve us here in Texas (American, Southwest and United).
No, they may not let you off the plane with that shirt. LOL No surprise Alaska Airlines employees "go above and beyond". I've flown them several times pre-pandemic and nothing has changed it seems. Nice! Looking forward to getting back in the skies myself later this year. Epic trip Jeb!! Thanks for sharing!!
I’m from washington, so flying among alaska airlines is not scarce whatsoever. Its been 3yo since I’ve flown in any airplane but I would go back to Alaska without a second thought no doubt. They offer amazing service and have awesome flightcrew. The pilots are extremely friendly, the flight attendants basically tend to your every need. Its an overall awesome airline and I hope they extend their routes in the future so I can enjoy the vast spands of other countries and continents.
I just saw this a year later. As an Airline employee who experienced COVID through the lens of air travel, your ending tribute brought me to tears. thank you for recognizing the hard quality work that we all do across the industry that goes unnoticed to the media and to our employers. thank you
My Mom lived in Hawaii in the 60’s, she was in Portland Oregon when a terrible accident back home which required emergency flight status to get her home. She flew PDX to HNL via ANC in a jump seat on a mail flight. She said it was a scary flight and that is coming from a woman who was a flight attendant with pan am who would fly r&r flights into Vietnam.
What an interesting route connecting the last two states to join the union. I wish Alaska Airlines flew more routes because it is my airline of choice here in California. Great job with this video Jeb!❤️👍✈️
I use to fly Hawaiian Airlines from Anchorage to Honolulu. It was great. They made me feel like I was in Hawaii as soon as I got on the airplane. Back in 2006ish Hawaiian Airlines then had a charter airline take over that route for a year. It felt like a glorified cattle car. Then Alaska started to fly that route and that is what we have been flying since then.
I feel very fortunate to live in Seattle and have been a loyal Alaska Airlines customer for nearly 20 years. In all that time I have not had one problem during my many travels with Alaska. Not one. I have also witnessed happy, satisfied customers, because Alaska employees consistently do give that extra something for each flight. I have grown accustomed to consistent, reliable service from Alaska Airlines.
I agree with you. If the staff are helpful, smiling and kind, everything else goes well. A smile and kind word can put even nervous passengers at ease. Have fun in Hawaii. Stay safe.
Nice commentary at the end Jeb. The news is never positive, never has been because people only focus on the drama, the pain, etc. instead of the positive things in life. It’s like Thursday was my Mother’s first birthday since she passed late last year. I didn’t think negative, I thought about all the great memories we made together. It’s those “views” that I think about. Thanks for putting that in perspective
Western Airlines pioneered the route way back in 1980 when they started Honolulu-Anchorage-London/Gatwick flights with DC-10's. Delta axed the HNL-ANC route after they bought Western in 1987. Good to see AS re-start it.
Western Airlines started the route in the early 1960's with Boeing 707's. The passenger load factors were pretty abysmal. Sometimes as few as 30 passengers on a 200 seat airplane. Saving grace was US Mail subsidies. This lasted until deregulation in the late 1970's.
Another great video Jeb. Loved the commentary about the wonderful airline staff who are out there. I recently flew on four different Southwest flights. The employees were absolutely amazing and friendly. Another shout out needs to go to the wonderful staff at Avis rent a car at Indianapolis airport. Short staffed, but servicing every customer with a small. You get back what you give. My mask might be on in the airports, but I always have a smile in my voice. You are one of my absolute favorites on You Tune. See you in the sky real soon. Safe travels!
During the summer, Alaska is 2 hours ahead of Hawaii. During the winter, Alaska is 1 hour ahead. Hawaii doesn't do the time change. When I lived in Hawaii, I sometimes had to think what time of year it was when I called the mainland.
I’m so glad you’re showing the airport, alaska is my home and it always will be, my mom made our whole family move to Tennessee and I hate it. I love my home and this will always be a memory.
Born and raised in Anchorage, I worked for Alaska Airlines in the early eighty's! One of the best jobs I have ever had, Great company and even at that time was a growing concern in the Great northwest! Always has been a Top notch carrier through out the country!
Jeb, Loved your editorial take on your experience and present climate of aviation. I think it is important to take a pause to reflect on the little things that go a long way. Thank you for your great content. Looking forward to see where your next adventure takes you.
Love your videos and I wanted to thank you for this one in particular! I never knew this route before this video and booked after I watched! It allowed me to take an amazing trip to visit my 49th and 50th state in the US. Thanks again!
Great job Jeb. I must say I was recently on one of those flights where we went out to the tarmac only to wait for almost an hour, head back to the gate, deplane, wait for another hour and a half only to try it again but finally get to my destination (EWR) about six hours late but safe. Your editorial was right on point, we as travelers often forget the sacrifices being made by airline staff and they don't deserve threats or physical violence (ala Spirit airlines staff) just ridiculous! Anywhoo, enjoy your trip and "See you in the skies my friend"
I actually found this route when playing around with google flights and thought to myself what an interesting flight this would be. thanks for making this trip report!
My first flight on a jet was on an Alaska Airlines Convair 880 in 1966. As I recall, it was their only jet at the time and got quite a workout flying from Alaska to the Pacific Northwest and back. I was 14 back then. My outbound flight was a military charter from Elemendorf AFB to McChord AFB in Tacoma. My return was a scheduled flight from SEA to ANC. Alaska made good use of that jet. It's so amazing to me to see how this airline has grown into what it is today, especially as so many others have come and gone!
Fun fact-I was on the maiden voyage of that plane introducing the Honoring Veterans livery. You should see their Salmon Thirty Salmon livery. It flies the season’s first delivery of Copper River salmon down to Seattle. 🦈✈️. Alaska’s the best US carrier, well above all others. The people, the equipment, the service are above all others.
Thank you Jeb for showcasing this livery. Recently had a fellow service member flown to her final resting place on this exact aircraft. Brings back memories of our times together. Always a pleasure watching your videos 👍🏽
FYI. Back in the late 19702 and early 1980s, Western Airlines offered a nonstop flight between ANC and HNL. They flew the route using a DC-10 and it was heavy military personnel and cargo between the two states. I think it may have been seasonal service back then. If any WA folks out there remember this service, please give us an update. Western was struggling in the late seventies and moved their main hub from Denver to Salt Lake City but was finding niche routes like ANC and HNL.
Western started ANC-HNL flights in July 1969. From October 1980 to October 1981 the flight operated HNL-ANC-LGW. When I joined Western in 1983 the flight was year round 3 or 4 days a week. Delta continued to fly the route for a short time after the merger with service ending January 1988.
What a lucky man you are Jeb. I’ve mentioned Alaska is my favorite airline, with quite a lot of that being contributed to my dad being a pilot for them, but my favorite Alaska livery is the Honoring Those Who Serve, so I will not even attempt to hide my jealousy that you got to fly on that beautiful aircraft from Alaska to Hawaii. You got to enjoy that beautiful American flag wingtip for 6 hours. Thank you for also talking about the airlines history. When people find out my dad is a pilot for Alaska, many ask why they’re based in Seattle. Now instead of having to explain it again and again, I can refer them to your video. Great video as always.
My dad is also an Alaska Airlines pilot! I have lived in Alaska my whole life and people here still don't understand why he's based in Seattle lmao. Seattle makes sense for them to be based in Seattle as it easily connects Alaska to the lower 48 and brings in a different demo.
Oh ya. That whole spiel about the clot shot was cringey as hell. He got all giddy and excited about the test, the vaccine, being given a special wrist band. This dude is the poster child of “giving up freedom for temporary security”.
Literally never watched this video nor knew it existed, and I got it in my recommended after doing this flight last night in the flight sim in the 737-900.
I really enjoyed both legs of this trip, Jeb! Being a native Seattleite, I well know how beautiful it is to fly in and out of SeaTac. I agree about Alaska Airlines’ great service … but mostly, I want to say how I appreciated your post-flight “editorial”, emphasizing the hard work and patience of these air workers!
As always great video. In 1993 I flew that route on a Hawaiian Airlines L1011 while working with Camp Adventure Youth Services out of the University of Northern Iowa. I was scheduled to work that whole summer in Anchorage however halfway through was transferred to a program in Hawaii. On the way back I had to get back to Anchorage to catch my original itinerary back to Iowa. Honolulu to Anchorage to Minneapolis to Waterloo was a long travel day that helped drive my love of commercial aviation. Thank You for a trip down memory lane.
True, HA used to operate to ANC. They stopped operations in the early 2000's due to recessions. Thats when AS had an opportunity to relaunch it as seasonal and turned it to year round.
This is so cool to see! I used to ramp for Alaska out of KPSP earlier this year and I got the honor to work this very same aircraft you flew on! Cleaned it, cargo loaded it, and wing walked it out!
I flew Alaska from SeaTac to DFW in Jan ‘21, the flight attendant talked to me as I was in seat 1A and I told her the last time I flew was in 1965. She gave me a set of wings, I know it is usually for kids, but I was touched by her sweet gesture.
The shirt is JEB approved Hawaii attire. I approve lol. Great video as usual! Love the content and all of your commentary. Thanks for taking us along with you on the adventure.
This has nothing to do with Alaskan Airlines but more to do with your editorial, Jeb. I flew American from Dallas to Orlando round trip 2020 (for a 2 week solo trip to Walt Disney World). Those AA employees were so friendly to everyone on both flights. I really appreciated their service.
Living in Seattle I use Alaska Airlines a lot. I miss the old days when I flew in 747’s from Pam Am and Northwest airlines. SeaTac was a Hub for 747’s in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s.
Everyone KNOWS that Suzanne laid that shirt out for you to wear on this adventure, (and 12 more identical ones in the suitcase!) blue plaid shirts are the trademark of great men and give credence to their words. This video was Great! And I enjoyed seeing you both.
Hi Jeb - just discovered your channel, and am enjoying your videos! Back in 1978, my partner flew ANC-HNL on Western Airlines; they had a triangle fare (LAX-ANC-HNL) which was only about $50 more than a two-leg trip. Glad Alaska has brought this route back!
I have a bush plane in anchorage, it would be an amazing experience to take you flying! 50ft over the rivers, or 10k above mount Denali, even land on gravel bars and do some fishing!
Hi Jeb. I didn't realise the 737-800 could fly that distance ! Makes one realise just what a great workhorse she is for plane travel ! Great commentary, as usual. I especially liked the way you expressed your gratitude to airline employees. Although not one myself, they have our lives in their hands from the moment we arrive at the terminal. And they do a darn good job ! As for the shirt.... definitely should be Hawaiian print, with the obligatory cargo shorts, towelling hat, and sandals !!! ( with white socks 😂)
Alaska is great based in Seattle since I live there and since it is still in the lower 48 but has easy access to Alaska and it’s awesome Milk run while having nice regional service with Horizon and SkyWest. Those options could be available if based in Anchorage but less popular with the lower population in the state of Alaska. That said Alaska is my favorite and forever airline and I will always fly them no matter what. The service and regional flights keep me coming back though I think the regional fleet should add CRJ-7’s. That’s just my take and my opinion. Great video and have a great day.
The only bit of info you forgot, is that Alaska is not only the Northern most State. It is also the Western most and Eastern most State of the US. The Aleutian Islands protrude past the 180° Meridian of Longitude.
Love the video as per the usual! Also love seeing another Alaska Airlines trip and any clothes are vacation clothes when traveling to Hawaii especially from Alaska!! Also I love the Anchorage Alaska Airport {ANC} Cheers from here in Detroit MI!{ DTW} 😎🥂👍
What a shame flying in first class is now...especially to Hawaii...i flew on Continental from Orlando-Houston-Maui return 17 years ago in first class...round trip ticket were $1,500 per passenger.....The Houston=Maui and Maui=Houston flight was incredible,we were fed non stop for 7 hours and food was prepared by Roy Yamaguchi...famous owner of Roy's restaurant,we also had dinner at his restaurant in Maui. The flight attendant rolled the liquor cart with full bottles of liquor and First growth Bordeaux wines...I drank Mouton Rothschild and Chateauneuff du pape throughout the flights...Taittinger Blanc de Blancs and Krug were the two champagnes served along with vintage ports and sauterne for desert wines...The highlight of the flight was when were about to land, the flight attendant brought out packed sandwiches to take with us..they 12 inch subs loaded with meats and cheeses...I wish flying like this would return soon...My second best flight was on Turkish Airways business class from Washington DC to Istanbul 6 years ago with an onboard chef...and did not know Turkey had some of the best wines in the world..The Raki was also flowing non stop..
Had to have a look at the plane hanging from the ceiling at 5:15. As an aspiring aviator, I did not recognize the aircraft. Turns out, it's an authentic Fairchild 24G that served with the Civil Aeronautic Authority in Alaska in 1948. Got transferred to New Mexico's Highland University for six years, then transferred between hands, before finding its way back to Alaska in 1978. It was restored to "like new" static condition in 1991 by the Alaska Aviation Air Museum.
Jeb just a few words to congratulate you for your engagement. You seem to be on cloud nine. There's a special glimmery in your eyes and a spring step in your tone of voice. You seem to be definitely in cloud "Nine" and I am happy for you. It couldn't happen to a better guy. All the best and thank you for your always very professional work.
While watching the comfort of the flight you are enjoying on board, more importantly the narration of your journey is very informative as well. Hugggs from Malaysia.
Loving the boxed water (reduce plastics!) - and the fact that you had an actual meal in First. (Hey Delta - we're tired of Bistro Boxes!) Great video on a charming airline. And how about that DC3 at 3:03!?
9:14 The first time I flew Alaska, that same question crossed my head and whenever I’m on Alaska, I always think about that one question! Thanks for answering that question!!!!!!
Alaska and Hawaiian airlines are my favorite; however, I never thought of flying Alaska airlines to Hawaii. I just started watching your videos and they are great.
Always found that route fascinating! So glad somebody finally did an in-depth video about it! :D Looking forward to watching it!
Thanks for watching! It’s a cool route only a visit on enthusiasts can truly appreciate!
Simply Aviation and Jeb Brooks need to do a collab, you're the top two! Imagine what you could accomplish together!

Outstanding video! Really enjoyed your narration, videography, and just plain everything! Happy travels to you and Suzanne!
I appreciate your gracious positivity.
Well done, Jeb B. And well spoken as you wrapped up this Vlog! Continued safe travels to you and your special Lady! I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you for the kind words. I‘m a Flight Attendant and it means a lot to me. 😀
I like how you describe infringements on peoples civil liberties as smooth and easy
Brilliant yet again I’m hooked Jeb
Great video, Jeb! I’ve also done this flight. Nice out the window footage around Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula!
Number 1 best travel YT!!
I flew Alaska from SeaTac to DFW in Jan ‘21, the flight attendant talked to me as I was in seat 1A and I told her the last time I flew was in 1965. She gave me a set of wings, I know it is usually for kids, but I was touched by her sweet gesture.
That was Jeb’s Hawaiian blue plaid shirt. Perfect.
Love this message at the end of the video !
Great video and as someone born and raised in DC, have to appreciate that bailiwick hat! 🤙🏾
Great video as always Jeb! Alaska is easily one of my favorite airlines.
The shirt is JEB approved Hawaii attire. I approve lol. Great video as usual! Love the content and all of your commentary. Thanks for taking us along with you on the adventure.
Another interesting fact about Alaska Airlines is one of their biggest maintenance operations is out of OKC
A two “robust” Jeb video! You know it’s a good one!
I personally like red eyes returning from a trip: gives me just that little bit more time at my destination
Love your watch collection!
Of course, I am not Jeb, but that sounds interesting, too. :=)
( with white socks 😂)
one of the last good planes boeing could build
Leave it to Jeb to pack enough business casual shirts for Hawaii in case he has to hold a client meeting from his cabana hammock
Yes!! You get it, Jason!
lol
This video was next level. The creative director is doing a great job!
Wow! Thanks so much. She definitely makes the videos so much better!!
Your Voiceovers are very informative!! I love your videos!!
Love the video as per the usual! Also love seeing another Alaska Airlines trip and any clothes are vacation clothes when traveling to Hawaii especially from Alaska!! Also I love the Anchorage Alaska Airport {ANC}
Cheers from here in Detroit MI!{ DTW} 😎🥂👍
I intend to fly this route hope for it this coming winter if I have the money! 💵🥂✈️💸🤑
Nice closing Jeb. Yes the Alaska airlines employees are the best.
I’ve flown Alaska to there from Seattle. Such a beautiful flight. Nice video, as always!
Hawaiian Airlines used to have flights to and from Hawaii & Alaska. This stopped about 10-15 years ago.
They were operated As a charter via “Hawaiian Vacations” until
Bought out.
Jeb. Your the best. I love Alaska airline
I Love watching you two ♡
Keep it going!
