Yes, we recently got a 2011 Sun Odyssey 44I and we've been sailing at almost 11kts in fair winds, plus the quality is still top for a 10 year old yacht. very few upgrades or issues. You really enjoy sailing it. This one is beautiful! Thanks for the videos! Great you're a Jeanneau self-confessed guy. Ours is Philippe Briand and I love it. Cheers from Mexico!

Would love to see someone brave enough to put the legs on and beach this in a test.. brilliant addition to the line and for long term cruising options and if it will last 10years look forward to picking one up once the depreciation has brought it into reality.
Interesting changes to the 409. Love the chart table, furled Code 0 (although shape if cut to furl?) and forward cabin. Galley layout is interesting too. Do NOT like no traveller … a bit of a pet peeve and I wonder about sheeting and downhaul on the jib with that ‘bobbin’ arrangement?
Thanks for the great review! Didn't like the position of the winches. Will only deliver clumsy operation. Too many ropes running around. Lacks mainsheet traveler. Anchor/sail locker is not bad for a 40 footer. I think the main design criteria was to maximize the indoor space, as the boat (deck) is quite tall. Let's hope they kept its weight center low enough. That keel is pretty interesting. Again, let's hope that it will hold-up in high seas...
My 1994 Beneteau First 265's cabin sole has no ruff edges and the entire floor was varnished at the yard. I don't know why Beni/Jeanneau would stop sealing their floorboards other than saving money on production. It's a niggle, but i would not stop me from purchasing a Jeanneau.
I was kinda shocked to see those unvarnished or sealed raw ply edges. That, to me as a non professional, is a deal breaker. What else might there be that you can't see that they skimped on?
Nice to see Toby actually naming off some short falls, not just the sales brochure. Great ideas in this boat, but the quality is definitely questionable. I can't wait to see these in 30 years. One major draw back for me on the interior, is the recessed upper lighting, where a hand rail used to be. With volume you need hand rails, if you plan to leave the dock. I would be getting some installed asap if this was my boat.
I might fit a decorative and functional splash guard between the sink and nav station lest your charts and other stuff get wet whilst someone is working in the galley.
Brilliant good thing is that a single handed have enough space to winch, and it is close to the helm. No other yacht has this feature. Side deck is the best addition here, where in rough weather, sailor have a safe corridor to walk to right to the bow. I am not sure if the German system is a smart replacement, needs to be proven while sailing. Chain at the bow is too much up. It might be a good solution to be taken back down. Are these windows a fashion? They look ugly. Kill up/down, - wow. That's a feature for a production boat. I can imagine how many of the cruisers will bless this when going in shallow waters. Good luck if that fails, it has a lot of machinery in it. I cannot understand why interior is all in square mode, looks cheap of the cheapest for a comfort of 41 footer. Options to choose rooms and heads, especially for one head choice are great. This size yacht has never been more spacious, and you will find nothing more on a much larger yachts. Dream on to see this yacht in Australia for the price of 300K AUD even without the lift keel.
The main sheet bridal would be easy enough to add control lines to and you'd have your traveler. I'm disappointed that wasn't included especially considering the fact that a barber hauler was included, but that's only an extra $200 additional and I'd have that problem solved. Disappointing, but not a deal breaker.
I came here to say the exact same thing! For the price of two blocks and two clutches you could have a traveler that lets you precisely control both twist and boom angle upwind.

That is NOT acceptable in my house, let alone a yacht that is permanently on the water. It makes me wonder what other corners have been cut in places you cannot see, and listen to everything creaking as a light little bloke like Toby moves around ? Hmmmm.
Do you think that bow shape would tend to dig when sailing downwind? I clicked on this because the hull shape looks a lot like a design I've been working on for a trailerable glassed plywood 40ft sloop
just a call on the magnetic compass, it looks as if it's a secondary thought to safety obligations. (the yacht must have an independent steering compass) - from an active sailing consideration - it is too far offset for the helmsman for it to be of any use and would be prone to parallax error. curious - as the binnacle on each helm could quite happily accommodate a properly corrected and compensated compass. - Apologies some of us are pre-electronic chart plotters turning Nav into a game of following the bouncing ball.

@@wilfdarr yeah...love the Halsberg rassy 40C....but at 800k USD...you're paying a lot for the step up in quality. But i was very surprised at the unsealed plywood edging. I don't recall seeing that on previous gen boats from them or their direct competitors
@@marcopolo242 I have no doubt you get it back in resale on the H&R, but I just don't have that available today. That's why the Jeanneau is so darned tempting (It would not be a good use of the finances I have, but I do have it!). As for the ply, are we sure it's unsealed or just unfinished? I'm left wondering how many Jeanneaus are still sailing? GRP boats can last forever. How much is this boat competing with other makers new and how much is it competing with all the other old Jeanneaus and HRs and Swans of this size still on the market? Why spend the 200K for a new Jeanneau when a 2000 40 Sun Odyssey is 80K. It looks to be much the same boat. 200k will buy you a 2000 Swan.
@@wilfdarr I will not argue that the new boat is "better" than the 10 year old one. The new one has a warranty. But my question was how much is Jeanneau competing against their own older boats. 50K is 25% of the price of a new boat, but the 10 year old boat, if well maintained, has the same usable life in it as the new one. GRP don't die. How do they convince you to plop down the extra 150K? They do this by convincing you it's Apple and Oranges. I'm pretty sure it's not apples and oranges. Disappointing boat to be honest, looks like it was rush built in the interior, I could only imagine the deficiencies in the hull. I would be very disappointed if I was the new owner.
Was just at the Annapolis Boat show. I noticed a bulkhead that was attached with adhesive. It wasn’t tabbed in anywhere I could see. I’m sure it’s great glue, but I turned around and left.
Looks like a great coastal cruiser. I wouldn't trust any yacht as a blue water cruiser that has a bolted on or lifting keel. Same with an unprotected rudder.
@@iducatifan1 Plenty of blue ocean cruisers have lifting keels, even in the absolute top segment. Having said that, Jeanneau's build quality leaves a lot to be desired.
If they have an edge over the competition - it's a rough edge. Those bottle bins look like they were built by a drunk using a bread-knife. What are they thinking?
Built well? I just walked some Jeanneaus at the Annapolis boat show. No other yacht, by a long shot, makes loud creaking noises as one walks through the belly of the boat like Jeanneaus. It's extreme. The impression I walked away with is cheap and hastily built. And they are not exactly cheap. Not a good value proposition in my book.
The JSO 410's are motel units now able to float. And no need to look aft, the following wave will let itself in. Of course you may always find the aft 1/3 which must have been sawn off at some time, reattach it and restore a smidgeon of class.
Toby ignore the adverse comments. Great review, I like the features on the 410 but could I ask you next time you test a lift keel boat to comment on sailing characteristics with keel up and down for that’s where the magic lies. Some centreboard yachts enjoy broad reaching with keel up and others not. How does the 410 fit in?
The jeaneau is not a bluewater boat. its a day and weekend vessel. it's underweighted, has no protected cockpit for heavy weather. small gas, water and sewage tanks and a hefty price tag.
Yep, this boat will spend its life in marinas. The lift keel will get it close to the beach for lunch then back to the marina for the night. The internal layout isnt suitable for long distance sailing. Can you imagine being behind those wheels at night when its blowing 20/25kts going up wind! Hell on earth! I cant imagine a worse boat to own
The boat looks very nice however the 3 year world wide coverage is misleading. I bought this boat and within 6 months had problem with the engine. I wrote emails after emails to Jeanneau and did not receive any response. The dealer just stated that my expectations were too high it usually takes many days to fix a problem like this. That is world wide coverage.

Was just at the Annapolis Boat show. I noticed a bulkhead that was attached with adhesive. It wasn’t tabbed in anywhere I could see. I’m sure it’s great glue, but I turned around and left.
A very undersized anchor
😍😍😍😍 bu benim hayalim 2 inci bir hayatım olursa eğer gerçekleşrireceğim
A nice boat but French made. Always are some details not very well made.
Looks like a great coastal cruiser. I wouldn't trust any yacht as a blue water cruiser that has a bolted on or lifting keel. Same with an unprotected rudder.
Aye, exactly
@@iducatifan1 Plenty of blue ocean cruisers have lifting keels, even in the absolute top segment. Having said that, Jeanneau's build quality leaves a lot to be desired.
Did I miss the price range?
It's on a slide with the specs at the end. Base price starts at €191k, test boat £250k
NICE YACHT PITY ABOUT the Cheap shit IKEA STYLE Interior
If they have an edge over the competition - it's a rough edge. Those bottle bins look like they were built by a drunk using a bread-knife. What are they thinking?
Built well? I just walked some Jeanneaus at the Annapolis boat show. No other yacht, by a long shot, makes loud creaking noises as one walks through the belly of the boat like Jeanneaus. It's extreme. The impression I walked away with is cheap and hastily built. And they are not exactly cheap. Not a good value proposition in my book.
What about the propulsion. Saildrive? Skeged rudder?
looks like jeanneau put the breaks on Mark Lombard`s pencil, the RM is a superior boat and will hold its price better....
Jeannue must know that most of the market is looking for off wind sailing. No traveler is insane to me
Cual es el precio
The JSO 410's are motel units now able to float. And no need to look aft, the following wave will let itself in.
Of course you may always find the aft 1/3 which must have been sawn off at some time, reattach it and restore a smidgeon of class.
Why do so many luxury yachts look like a brick with a sail on top? And like a 3-star chain hotel inside?
Interior design by Minecraft.
Bravo. That one was definitely a step up from the standard IKEA joke. 😂
A lift keel is a secret weapon? So is the Norden Bombsight.
Not a blue water boat!
I cant imagine a worse boat to own
I dont know why it has "the edge" over competition! Its not made for banks? Is that it?
Right.
I'll take a kraken over this anyday!
Wouldn't we all?
Not very inviting interior. looks like a low quality. Totally open, not protected helm station...
Is there a 30ft version of this ? And besides length, what are the differences between the two if there is one?
I wouldn't like to take the helm in any kind of following sea. A boat only suitable for coastal waters at best. A sort of caravan in the end.
It's a functional boat, but it has no soul.
