the reason why stevie changed the red strat for charley strat, is because this song is dedicated to charley the man that build this guitar, he passed away n stevie made this song for him
A little bit of me died the day that Stevie Ray was killed. He was the best blues guitarist on the planet just reaching the prime of his career. A epic tragedy.
Theres not many things I can tell you what I was doing when it happened, but I was in the chow hall, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia Naval Amphibious Base and had just shoved a fork full of green beans in my mouth when someone shouted it out....not sure why I always remember the green beans hanging out of my mouth as my heart sank. RIP SRV.
God I love Stevie so much. A genuinely amazing person. Not just a guitar hero, but an all-around human hero as well. We always seem to lose the best ones too soon.
Nice reaction. A few comments: He switched from a red guitar to a white one so effortlessly that many people don't even notice. He chipped his tooth playing with his teeth at the end. He has a huge amount of gain and skillfully plays with feedback at the end to keep the note going
🙌👏👌🎸🎶💙‼️Great reaction! You talked about Stevie being a teacher. Another reactor called him "A weapon of mass instruction". Don't let your guitar get dusty. The best players in the world wanted to play at his level. One of a kind talent. How does he get that sound with one hand? It is called "sustain" and the strength of his monster hands. The guitar he started the song with was going out of tune so he had them switch him out to that white one. That is why he dropped down, not to pick up a pick but to adjust foot pedals, then turned his attention to the amps until he was satisfied he could accomplish that sustain and playing with the feedback from the amps all the while still performing live and not missing a beat. Truly one of a kind💯. I highly recommend his masterpiece Riveria Paradise as performed at Austin City Limits 1989. He dedicates it to all those still suffering in any way. It is like a warm, golden hug from this man's soul🌟✨💫⭐️. Thank you for bringing this today🌹

SRV is awesome! You have got to do a couple more SRV! Texas Flood or Riveria Paradise would be good for now. Thanks Biss and keep playing your guitar!🎸❤️💛
3:55 No he's adjusting the effects pedal and then goes to the amp to adjust it. The pickups on the red guitar are very different to the "Lipstick" ones on the white guitar, and so need different settings following the early guitar change because of the broken string. Also he was in the middle of getting clean, so probably had more care about his sound.
No reason for SRV skills to break your desire to learn to play guitar. There is a rumor that as a kid SRV wanted badly to play in a band of older boys who would chase him off. So he went home to prove them wrong. The older boys would be later known as ZZ top
Cute story, but I don’t think it is true. According to Billy Gibbons, the first time he met SRV was at a private dance club in Dallas, called Arthur’s. Stevie was 16, and Gibbons was 21 years old. Stevie was with his brother (who Gibbons knew) and young Stevie asked to sit in. Gibbons was surprised the kid had the guts to ask, but he let him try. Stevie jumped onstage with an SG, and proceeded to tear it up. Gibbons was blown away by how good this kid was, and Jimmie was like “yeah, that’s my brother…” This story was told by Gibbons to Guitar Legends magazine after Stevie’s death.
Stevie is a guitar legend and presented good ethics in music!!!!! To get that good takes lots of practice!!!!!! Would like to hear you do some more "LOVEBITES", "BAND MAID" and "NEMOPHILA" who also have uplifting messages in their songs!!!!! Thank you for what you do!!!!!
Hendrix was the innovator and SRV took it to a different level. The sustained notes you asked about is when you turn up the gain on those big amplifiers {you saw him do it early on after he switched guitars, and by positioning yourself and the guitar a certain way close to the amps, the guitar pickups is creating a feedback from the amplifiers sound waves thus creating a sustained note.
@@s.gibson9329 Thank you for your Kind response !!! You gotta love him saying at 10:00 "I'm out of tune" and then saying "i'm sorry". Thats why he was an amazing humble guitar player. Well you need an amp for that "no strumming", it's called reverb. The instument is the amp, the guitar is just the controller.
Don't worry Biss. My guitar has been collecting dust for 40 years. Stevie can either make you try harder, or like you said, break your spirit. I guess it all depends on how bad we want something. If I really really wanted to learn how to play, I wouldn't have put it down so easily.
When Stevie took the break and started talking about uplifting people. He had a very heavy drug and alcohol problem and I'm not sure if this was his first concert back from getting clean? But when he sang these songs at concerts he gave a testimony about drugs and how they affected him it's quite expiring. And he also thought that he wouldn't be able to play clean from drugs and it came out that he was better.
Stevie was almost purely blues based. Jimi played a lot of blues but was much more psychedelic and experimental, so his stuff can be a bit more challenging to get into for some folk. It's almost impossible to go wrong with a really well performed blues tune. Those chord changes have been staples for centuries from the classical era and are baked into our western genes, mixed with the almost universal appeal of the pentatonic scale that makes up most of the melodies and solos of blues. So most folks can easily feel them. From what I've read, almost every single human culture's music includes those pentatonic notes, so they would sound very natural to almost anyone on earth.
Biss, he didn't just adjust his guitar, he completely switched it out. Btw, when are you going to do a behind the back solo for us?😁 As always, BIG HUGS and much ❤ from America!
The Vaughan brothers, Stevie and Jimmy, are Texas icons. Both superb guitar players. Jimmy, the older brother was lead guitar in The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Stevie would sneak in for a solo every once in a while. When Stevie hit it big Jimmie joined his brother. Some good guitar battles. Catch Jimmie with Clapton and BB King. Check out Ry Cooder, The Prodigals Son is super good. Wicked guitar tone. Ry has been named the best slide guitarist and one of the top 20 guitar players.
picking up pick before the solo: he was actually kneeling over to change the dial settings on his foot pedal for the solo, cranking up the overdrive to 11 or whatever, on a second listen youll be able to hear the dramatic shift in the tone of the guitar.....you give up guitar playing: stevie loved & promoted many guitarists who were "worse" (abilty, & finger speed-wise) than he was....rightfully, he didnt care about that stuff or see it that way when he "judged" how good a guitar player was...all he cared about feeling & soul & meaning what youre playing....so, biss, if stevie heard u play your guitar would he smile humbly & encourage u to keep playing & never give up?........the short answer is: yes, absolutely:) ...great reaction as always(:
I'm pretty sure Stevie was adjusting an effects pedal instead of picking up a guitar pick. He then adjusted his amps twice...he probably wasn't happy with his tone. He is making his guitar feed back just enough to let him hold notes basically as long as he wants to...Jimi was a master at using feedback, and Stevie was too. God bless!!
SRV did two live shows on a tv show called Austin city limits, one on 1983 and one in 1989. Both about a hour long. You should check them out you’d love them
I remember your reaction to Texas Flood and I think I mentioned that I wished you'd give "Life Without You " a listen sometime. I'm glad you did; it's an amazing song!
after he picked the guitar with his teeth, he was looking on the ground for his tooth. he looked over to the side to his crew and said "I lost my tooth"
There are many guitarisis with huge tecnical skill in the world, and then there is a few like Stevie, and Jimi as you also mentioned, that makes you feel that guitar is their life and soul, i think its hard to pick the best of the best, but Stevie is surely a great candidate for it.. i would easily pick him over Van halen for example, even Van halen is amazing to, and over David gilmour also.. so he will top as lot of those great names imo..
I don't know if anyone pointed this out in the comments but he broke a string so they changed to a different guitar, different color ! Consumate Pro , a real GOAT !!
He did not break a string. We all would have seen the string flailing if he had. His guitar was falling out of tune. Watch it again and just watch his face and eyes. He was hearing it and didn't like the sound. So he made the switch.
Oh hi, me again. Couple of recommendations. This time, the recommendations partially answer the question of what happened to SRV's band after he passed away. The answer? They formed/joined the group Arc Angels with a couple of very gifted/talented guitarists. Arc Angels - "Living In A Dream" - ruclips.net/video/qtLw_53C95M/видео.html Arc Angels - "Send By Angels" - ruclips.net/video/oyU8pAMHBRQ/видео.html
"I know this is motivational for some." Yeah, I used to watch stuff like this, and go, "I want to be able to do that." I learned a lot of it, but sadly, every band that started already had guitarists and needed bassists. I had already been dabbling in bass because of Cliff Burton (Metallica) and Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne), and that's why I made the jump. Funny enough, my favorite SRV song is an instrumental version of Hendrix's "Little Wing."
Stevie did sweat alot when he performed. He kept a lot of "DRY PICKS" on the floor and on his amps when he played. He is not dropping picks just exchanging them. Because his fingers sweated so much.
He didn't adjust his guitar, he completely switched to a different one. Then he tuned it as he went along....making adjustments to his pedal and the amps.
Nice! Not that it matters, or that you should be expected to know it, but if you're curious, the name of that town in New Jersey is pronounced like "puh-say-ick". My guess is that it's a Native American word from whichever tribe and their language was originally there when probably Dutch fur traders first showed up in the 17th century. It's not uncommon in the US that names for places will have be taken from the native languages by the arriving Europeans, and some survived. There's also a lot of names for places in Spanish, in the parts that were once controlled by Spain, then Mexico, like much of the South West, or in French in places that were once controlled by France in the South East, like Louisiana. Probably some Dutch, German, and who knows what else also mixed in there in different parts.
I love that these kind of things make you want to play guitar. I got like that at 6 years old after hearing KISS guitarist Ace Frehley. Then as I matured it was Hendrix. Then I got into Clapton. The blues won me over. I may disagree with you that SRV is better than Hendrix(or maybe just more your thing). But this music soothes my restless soul. Thank you for giving it a shot on your channel. Your reactions are some of the best there is! CHEERS!!! 🍻🤟👏
He used very thick, heavy strings, so when he strummed them, the strings stored a lot of energy and would continue to vibrate for longer than thinner, lighter strings.
If you've experienced feedback from a microphone while singing, you will be able to understand how he gets his guitar to sound like that. Get closer or further from the mic and it changes. Feedback between the guitar and amp happens and changes as you move the guitar around the stage. Stevie was able to find spaces where the note, what he's doing with the note and the feedback all work for him. He might be looking for a specific sound or he might just be content to work with what it offers him.

The longer I live, the more I believe that some people were sent to us to change things. Stevie was one of those people.
From the first time I heard his music as a little kid growing up in North Texas, he changed my life.
The way I describe Stevie....When he was born, God himself came down and handed him a guitar, and said "This is what you are meant to do!"
Thank God for putting people like him on our planet. Such a beautiful song.
Smooth guitar switch

There are 2 guitarists that I know that just have the soul o play guitar to it's fullest extent, and that's Jimi & Stevie.
The edge Jimi has over Stevie is he innovated these techniques where SRV could just learn them.

CHEERS!!! 🍻🤟👏
Thank you, glad you loved the reactions
He used very thick, heavy strings, so when he strummed them, the strings stored a lot of energy and would continue to vibrate for longer than thinner, lighter strings.
If you've experienced feedback from a microphone while singing, you will be able to understand how he gets his guitar to sound like that. Get closer or further from the mic and it changes.
Feedback between the guitar and amp happens and changes as you move the guitar around the stage. Stevie was able to find spaces where the note, what he's doing with the note and the feedback all work for him. He might be looking for a specific sound or he might just be content to work with what it offers him.
