  • A long one this time, I show off how the box has turned out 6 months down the road, as well as give a low frequency demo, and a system overview.

Something seems to be off with the video. Keeps stoping every few seconds but audio is fine.

huh yeah, odd, it was fine in editing, happened when I reviewed the video though playing off hard drive most videos look like that uncompressed so I can only really see the final result on youtube, im not sure what caused it, might reupload though there doesnt appear to be any freezes during the demo part, which is the only part with live movement

I myself am looking into buying the miniDSP, would help a lot to tune my system properly. Have you looked into restoring old car batteries, to restore some of their functionality?

Not properly, I do have some sulfuric acid lying around I was tempted to dump into the old one to see what happens, though I might restore it properly. I tested it at some point, and found right now it's about 140 CCA, so down to about a quarter of its brand new quote. Still holds 12.6V though, quite well too.
But yeah, miniDSP is an awesome bit of kit, It's half the price of the standard DSP that all companies seem to use, though it could be better specced (don't quote me on that though), Xover, time alignment and EQ are great, I ran the stock speakers for ages after I got it. Only annoyance as mentioned in the video is I'd like 6 outputs so I can run each channel of the 4-way individually, but as long as I've got left and right its ok.

You seem very knowledgeable so I was wondering if you had some input. I had an nvx VCW15 and I separated a spider so I replaced it w 2 AB XR15'S so it took the NVX and bought a 10" 12 spoke and a appropriate cone/surround I've found a nice correct sized 4 layer flat wound coil. Where I'm lost is spider selection. How do I come up with correct spider set. Lord of bass has dual spider packs ready to go or as single stackable. The basket has option of 3 different sized spiders. I was planning on a dual set on biggest platform but how choose which type and how are they rated? It's going to be hopefully a low enough qts for ported for a variety of music/hip hop with maby up to 1000wrms? That was it's original rating as a 15 it's a fairly powerful 200oz motor and I'm assuming fairly stout coil...it's my first attempt at custom woofer so if it's not ideal no biggie these parts are not crazy expersuve but rather it worked ideal. I definitely will be getting get DATS at some point to test end results. If I could be creative and tear it back apart and reuse the coil again it wouldn't cost hardly anything at all to redo. Like $30...vs $70. Sorry for long msg ANY input would be really appreciated...thanks!

I don't know a ton about custom speakers through parts assembly, I've seen it done a few times, but I wouldn't say I'm knowledgeable in this area. I'd say for a 1000w 10" you'd probably want a progressive spider, a linear one might need to be so stiff it has an undesireably high Fs. I'd guess a single dual spider pack would be easier to join to the cone/former. The largest spider option might also improve cooling, though keep in mind cone depth. Other than that, just use a resonance calculator thing to find a spider pack with the right Cms to give you a decent Fs with the mass of the cone plus coil.
Also, regarding dual spider set ups, multiple spiders should help the voice coil stay centered better, though more=stiffer. Two seperate spiders could potentially keep things as linear as a single quad spider pack, though that's pure theory, not sure how it goes in practice.
You could also plug data into WinISD for example to predict missing specs, things like Rms could be a determining factor in reaching an appropriate Qts.

Dude, get rid of the rat’s nest of wires. And your DC noise suppressor should be in a case. I’m sure you can do better.
